Angel Di Maria

Is he really worth the 40M Euro price tag? Is he that good? I know he is young, fast and has good ball control but is he worth the money Chelsea are ready to pay for him?

Chelsea won't pay £40m for him. They've been accused of overspending and offering way too much for players when that has barely been a case. Not once they've had a record transfer to their name, they only broke £20m a handful of times, and when they did it was money well spent (with the exception of Shevchenko, though he was definitely worth £30m at the time) such as Drogba, Essien and Carvalho.

They won't go over the top for Di Maria either. They haven't been big spenders recently anyway.

I think this lad is absolute quality. Whenever I've watched him in the Europa League, he's been sensational. Incredibly skillful and he's added a lot of goals to his game.
That said, I don't watch him or Benfica on a consistent basis, so I don't know how consistent he is or if he still has weaknesses to his game, but whenever I have seen him play, he's looked pretty special.

If we're in for a winger next season, I think Di Maria has to be the prime target.

Imagine front 3 of Di Maria/Rooney/Valencia...

Well it looks like they want Aguero desperately and if they want him then they have to break the bank for him. He is not going to come cheap and he will cost them somewhere in the range of 35-40 M.

I recently spoke with an avid benfica fan in new york, who watches every one of their games on the net and he raves about Di maria says he is going to be the new world star, said that he was already a lot better than nani and that he was 2nd in the national team to messi. He was mad for di maria. The true test will be when he signs for a top european club.

According to Football Manager he has a £2.6m release claus anyway :)

They haven't tabled an official bid yet, and if they do, I believe it will be around £30m to £40m which is a reasonable price for a player of Aguero's potential and status. Di Maria is level below, i.e. not really proven himself anywhere else than Benfica who normally don't play against strong sides.

That was a stunning hat rick he scored against Leixoes this weekend. He is looking like a monster player. I think he will be Real or Barca bound in the summer with the performances he is putting in now. Chelsea will also go for him too. I would love it if we got him but he might be too expensive!

To be fair one of those goals was deflected and the second would have been a routine save for a Premier League keeper. The third was nice though, and his movement off the ball looks great, quite Ronaldo like.

Barcelona and Madrid are much more likely to sign the better Juan Mata, or go for David Silva instead. Chelsea may go for him but er, he doesnt play left midfield in a diamond. So may have to do with being a "monster player" in Serie A or for Everton.

I'll be very surprised if he goes for anything more than 22 million. For there won't be a bidding war for him. For bigger players who play his position like Ribery and Silva are going to also be on the market.

You can't really say chiefie guy. I mean it all depends on the selling club (whether they are desperate to sell or not), the negotiating team involved, the player himself and the clubs involved in the bidding war.

Fair enough. I'm not actually saying I'm 100 percent sure. I'm just saying that I can't see a bidding war sparked for him given who will be on the market. Which will make it considerably harder for his club to push up the price. Especially if he also at any point states a desire to want to leave. It will be interesting to see what happens in his future.

I'd put 22m max for Angel Di Maria, he is a good player but we will not pay for over for him. Good prospect, especially his first touch and close dribbling is exceptionally good from what I've seen, and has the pace too. Also his finishing has been great and I really think he is a handful for defenders.

I'd love to see

---------- Rooney --------------

--------J.S.Park ----------------

Di Maria --------------------Valencai

----------Scholes----Fletcher

Same back four.

Looks decent. But bin Park for Hamsik :D

Di Maria and Scholes on the same side might be risking it a bit. Di Maria is more of a left wing forward, most suited to a 4-3-3. If he does turn up in a United kit dont be expecting him to be putting in a shift like our other wingers. In time I'm sure he'd learn to do that part. Afterall Nani and Berbatov have learnt to work back for the team.

Swapping Park for Di Maria in that formation would sort it out faster.

Crap article from the mirror, probably put out by the Glazers to take the focus away from the red knights bidding for United articles everywhere!

Manchester United are considering a fresh approach for Benfica’s Angel di Maria.

United, who enquired about the £20million-rated Argentine in December, were among top clubs whose scouts saw the winger hit a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Leixoes.

Maybe your right, maybe your wrong, its impossible to tell at this stage of his career really. Just depends on who your own personal flavour of the month is really. Can't really state as fact that Mata or Silva are in a different league to Di Maria considering they both play for a great team in arguably the best league in Europe in Spain where as Di Maria plays in a fairly crappy league. Before Christmas I am sure you would not have thought that middlesborough boy Adam Johnson would be starring for a top 4 team in Man City! But after Anderson and Nani its hard to tell if Di Maria could cut it but judging by his speed, dribbling, crossing and shooting ability you would have to say that he has a bloody good chance. I would prefer Ribery myself though!

The more see of this lad the more I'm liking him, he seems very clever on the ball.

Actually I always rated Johnson. Was on here last season saying he was a better winger than Downing, not many agreed. It doesnt surprise me that he's doing well at a good club.

Mata is better, Silva is a bigger name regardless of whether he's a better wide player than Di Maria - and the bigger the name the more likely the Spanish clubs will want you this summer as Barcelona have their presidential elections and Real Madrid will want to match any signings they make. Whoever promises to sign the players with the highest profile for Barcelona will probably win the election. So the likes of Ribery and Silva are the prime candidates. However unlike Madrid and the galacticos, Barcelona like their spanish players so that makes Silva probably the best target for what they want and it gives Mata a chance too.

As for Di Maria I dont think he's better than Nani or Anderson were when they came over from Portugal. So if someone pays more than we did, somethings gone wrong. He's one of those wide players who just attack, attack, attack. And he's actually like Mata in a number of ways. He makes runs through on goal plenty and while his finishing is better than most wide players, he misses good chances too. Same with Mata. Only Mata has a proven record in la liga rather than just in portugal. Mata is a very good crosser of the ball and on the edge of the Spanish national team (normally comes on for Silva and plays well). He's the better player.

Still, the player prices are still overboard and I wouldn't be surprised if either Mata or Angel Di Maria will go for less than 25m.

If Only Obertan could bulken up a bit and get more chances, I'm still quite positive that he can become a good player for us.

Yep he can be a good player for us. But do any of us actually know if he's any good at crossing a ball with his left foot?

Apparently we had scouts watching him during that match.

More I'm seeing of this lad the more impressed I am, good display against the germans last night.

Apparently from last nights match his left foot was awesome and he reminded me alot of Giggsy, but still Giggsy was much better though. But I mean, these type of players don't come cheap. Giggsy certainly had more pace at the same age but Di Maria's close control ain't 2nd to none.

Also, Otzil looked good when he had the ball, but still the Germans couldn't really play their game. Had no wing play what so ever and Lahm tried too much to cut in, instead of going for the cross. Muller looked decent but Schweisterger what ever his name was and Ballack was anonymous. The Argies looked great with Messie dropping deep and dribbling himself through the defense.

Gabriel Obertan was the topic of that post and the question about crossing with his left foot. Basically, he doesnt do it so we dont know what his delivery from the left is like.

Interesting that you should put it that way because Ribery has never been in a huge league himself. France and Germany is not much bigger than Portugese league. And despite of a excellent technique, Ribery is a right footer, I really do prefer correctly footed wingers... I also don't think di Maria is fully developed, I think he will get even better than he is today, and I am sure he will succeed and develop with us because if he joins, he won't have much competition at the left wing spot as that is our weakest coverage in our squad.

if we would sign somone like the names mentioned id prefer to sign them before their price rockets during the world cup.

I imagine this year will be much like the Nani/Anderson swoop were we'll just go get them straight away. Then have one other player that will take forever to sign which will go all the way to deadline day.
