We can't really fit Rooney, RvP, Mata plus Di Maria in without playing one out of position or risking the balance. Just replace Kagawa with Mata and you have the same conundrum we've had since 2012, only now with Di Maria to sort out. But he's so good you can't turn him down.

We'd probably have to let one of those go, but it can be next summer as well. Di Maria stands out because he's got pace and dribbling ability which we lack big time. In the number 10 role we've many players who have plenty of similarities. One of them going wouldn't be that big a deal.

Lets just stockpile attacking players! we have 3 no.10's and 5 forwards but feck it lets keep going!! Mata can play out wide yea! Rooney can drop out, oh wait hes the captain so umm.. left wing? it'll work because, why not, its Di Maria "OMG"!
Sod the fact we have hardly any full backs to play a 4 at the back, nor any decent backup orthodox wingers behind Di Maria, push Wilson and Januzaj down the pecking order and still have a blackhole in the middle of the pitch, we must get Di Maria, Sign him up! Skip Skip Skadoo!

I'm definitely all for it, he's a different sort of player to what we have. He'd be an upgrade plus someone we actually need rolled into one. Nonetheless, he still plays in an offensive position, so yeah one of them is going to lose out. But that's the way it should be, sign better than you've got and improve, rather than squad players like Young, such has been our technique recently.

He will also block Young's and Valencia's development. Do not want.

Actually we have 1 number 10...Rooney is a garbage number 10...Kagawa is only good in peoples minds and Mata..well he's the only one we have! As for stacked in attackers players.....RVP is injury prone and incapable of playing with our other good attacking player..Rooney...who himself is not exactly prolific these days to carry the team on his own.....There's alot of spin but not much truth in even the positive statements you then try to blemish!

Firstly he isn't a garbage anything. And secondly I think he did carry the team for the most part of last season.

At the end of the day, we sadly don't look like signing a top midfielder like Vidal or a top centre back, so people are hardly going to be against signing a top quality attacker with attributes we do lack.

And we're going to have to sign an attacker with pace and dribbling skill sooner rather than later.

Did you not watch the WC? He's more than capable of being garbage for us also when played in midfield or as a number 10 looking to find valencia on the wing...thats what he brought last season. Course he shone through endeavour last season and being the main goal threat as he should be being the highest earner in the league....!!

For the money that is being mentioned I don't see us moving on this, however with the interest in cuadrado and LVG quoted as saying we don't have a winger like di maria and "we need one" I think there will be an attempt to get a right sided attacking player, there may be more movement on it now that nani is gone. I think LVG wants to start with the 3-5-2 but have the option to go 4-3-3 when chasing a game, you saw this in the world cup, in a 4-3-3 we are good on the left with Januzaj, even Mata or Young could do a job, but there is nothing on the right bar throwing Danny out there.

It's so irritating seeing posts like 'we don't need a player like Di Maria, we need to buy midfielders and defenders instead'. If we can sign Di Maria then we should ffs. He is one of the best players in the world. He does something that only 1 or 2 players in our squad can do (beat a man), he is very direct, fast with the ball at his feet, score goals...the list just goes on. He would give any full back in the league nightmares. We need that in our squad atm. Let LVG decide the teamsheet as he is the manager. I'm sure if he wants Di Maria then he will have the potential lineup figured out.
I agree. Anyone who says that they don't want him here or that he shouldn't be a priority I find insane quite frankly.

We have Rojo, so center back is less of a priority now. Far from ideal still, but definitely less of an issue than midfield.

Still, I think the midfield can still get by this season, sounds ridiculous, but it's possible, and for me, signing Di Maria would solve far more issues than people seem to think it would. He's creative, extremely fast, works hard and can play in a three man midfield or on the right wing, two areas we're desperately lacking in. He's also probably one of the ten best players in the world. He's too good not to buy, imo.

It's about time we bought someone from them lot so let's start with Di Maria

They can't be too happy with us though since we sold them a virus.

At least one of them needs to go in my opinion. Preferably Kagawa but to be honest Mata has done very little to convince me that he's the right kind of player for us so far.

Are you seriously comparing his international performances with his club form? Many players who are good for club can be shit for their international teams.

He is NOT a central midfielder so if you play a striker/attacking mid in central midfield then you are fecking asking for it. You want to play RVP in defense and see if he is garbage or not?

And last season he made 40 appearances. He scored 19 goals and assisted a further 22 goals. But yeah according to you he is GARBAGE.

Even if we dont sign Vidal, as long as we get a solid CDM in (Khedira, Lucas Silva etc) it would make a world of difference to the team.
A CDM should be on the same priority as Di Maria IMO.

Midfield could 'get by' if Carrick comes back in form and Herrera settles in. But, it's another year of getting by. Don't see why we can't sign more midfielders.

Yeah but signing a solid central midfielder isn't going to have any beating on signing Di Maria and visa versa. Signing two top players could be an issue.

The thing is that so many people are thinking that Carrick is going to be our saviour when he comes back. But in reality I don't think that's going to be the case. I think he's well past performing well on a consistent basis. And a club like this one shouldn't really be "getting by" in midfield. We should sign a CDM and Di Maria before the end of the window.

One thing you have to remember though, is that we can't just sign more and more players without being able to shift a few out. We already have lots of midfielders, whether they're good enough or not. That's not what people want to hear, but it's something to club will definitely be taking into account when looking at transfers.

The first time I'd ever heard of him was yesterday on the Caf. I don't know how much you've seen of him but putting him in that class bracket, I'm not convinced.

I understand where you are coming from and Adan Januzaj would have benefited from not buying a player like Di Maria. However, we lack genuine quality in this wide area and his addition will make our attack more potent than it already is. When Van Gaal stated we lack a specialist winger, that was a shot at Young, valencia and Nani. Di Maria inclusion will mean we will see less of these players aforementioned and more of Januzaj and Kagawa. Transitioning from a 1-3-5-2, to a 1-4-2-2-2 would mean the likes of Januzaj and Wilson development will not be hindered by his arrival.

Number 6 - Herrera
Mata(Januzaj) - Di Maria(Kagawa)
Rooney(Wilson) - Welbeck(Van Persie)

I put him the class bracket of players Woodie has a chance of signing before deadline day.
I have zero faith in him anymore.

its more about what Woodward is capable of at this point.

You are probably right but then the reports of Cleverley being offered an extension does not bode well. Fellaini, injury aside is not wanted that much is clear. Carrick is 33 and was slow at 23 I see no long term planning as far as he is concerned. Fletch bless him for coming back but he should not even be close to being a starter for us. Anderson I don't even need to comment on.
Shifting players with no real sell on value and relatively high wages is obviously going to be problematic. I think the club should worry about that a little less though especially given the high wages we have stopped paying in Giggs, Rio, Vidic and Evra. We should be doing all we can as a club right now to get a midfield partner for Herrera that will take us up the league and challenging for honours.

Perhaps but you are assuming Woodward can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Agree.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to get one too, however it could be a case where the one LvG wants simply isn't available, i.e. Strootman. He's stubborn, just like Fergie was.

The part in bold is the key, I think. Also, we can only register 25 players for the Premier League and the club simply isn't going to bring in new players while potentially leaving experienced dead weights as ineligible to even play.

I understand that but I'd still sacrifice one though if it meant getting a top drawer player in this window.

Anderson surely would be the least missed.

Mata Rooney janazaj and di Maria in a 4231 system would give us far better balance, than trying to fit in mata Rooney and RVP in a 352 system that's for sure
