About time we showed up to the annual Madrid fire sale. Had we bought Robben or Sneijder earlier we might not have been in such a mess now.

fire sale :lol::lol::lol::lol:

not sure you could call it a fire sale given the fees paid

agree with the sentiment though and Robben and Sneijder would have been perfect - both for about 40 million euro too!

Joke of a fee. Not that I expected Woodward to change the long trend of extortionate fees.
£48m or £64m we might end up paying if he's very successful here?

£48m is a going rate for this calibre of a player. He's coming here on the back of an excellent season at possibly the best team in Europe. We're not signing Valbuena.

It's the difference between having a beast player or not having a beast player. If we don't pay the cash for players like this we're stuck with what we have. If we're going for a player a level lower than Di Maria...like a Sanchez or Cuadrado, then we're still going to be overpaying because clubs know we're getting desperate
Like I said earlier, were loaded, were desperate and he's awesome.

We needed someone just like Di Maria and were a little extra for him. I'd rather us do this waste money on zaha and bebe.

That theory scheduel would work in reality. A lot of my ideas are being ignored only to be used by somebody else who takes credit for them.
I was laughed at two years ago when I said the caf should try to introduce Twitter and Facebook + likes, to the site. Today Twitter is an integral part of the site.
@Damien shame on you for stealing his ideas

With players like Herrera and Di Maria in the team, Mata will turn out to be very useful. One defender who sits behind and we will have a scenario where Herrera, Di Maria, Mata and New CDM will complement each other very well.
RVP if fit will be class at the dedicated ST. Wazza will eventually find himself a sweet spot.
A front six of RVP Rooney Mata Di Maria Herrera and new CM is a great one to have. Some people might worry about the balance, but I guess a good manager can make it work.

For those so concerned with the fee, would you rather not sign him? He's easily worth £60 million to us should he prove successful.
The thing is people feel the money could have been spent in other positions. I don't agree though. You don't often get a chance to sign a player of this quality with little competition, especially when we've no European football on offer. All these things considered, its an excellent signing.

It's nothing but a spectacular signing.

Di Maria is great. You just know that if he was playing yesterday he'd be bombing down the wing and causing havoc for their defense. I just can't wait for him to play for us. I reckon he will score on his debut too.

As significantly, he will chase and harry players all bloody day. I love that about him. Imagine a midfielder here doing that. Fans will love him.

So do we think van Gaal will play him purely on the wing? Because from what I've read from Real fans on other forums etc. they say he was much more consistent and effective for Madrid last season when deployed as a CM as opposed to on the wing. Especially if we don't get another CM in then it would make sense to put Di Maria there in order to connect the midfield and attack - which we are currently woeful at.

Thoughts?

Possibly, but van Gaal's comments earlier in the summer about not possessing a top quality winger like di Maria or Ronaldo would maybe suggest he'll be utilised on the wing.

Yeah his pressing is one of the best parts about him. Just ruthlessly chasing down players and generally being a real pain in the ass. Fans will love that.

Him and Herrara in front of a defensive midfielder (De Jong / Blind maybe) would be amazing, Di Maria were immense in that role last season. But that is of course if we go back to a back 4.

Oh really, well let's see you still say that after THIS:

Classic.

Indeed. I've been giddy as feck since the moment it appeared that we're likely to sign him!

Definitely. Also pressing is an infectious thing on the pitch. Once our other players see this guy chasing players, they'll be motivated to do their bit as well I think.

Hopefully as a winger who is allowed to tuck in. Maybe Januzaj can keep our width from the right like we have in recent times.

Also, surely we now possess the best array of talented left footed players? Mata, van Persie, Januzaj and di Maria?

Was more to make light of the fact Madrid have no use for him, rather than label him damaged goods.

Not my best analogy.

Even our assistant manager could probably still put in better performances with his leftie than most of our right footed players are capable of.

I don't know about you but when I tuned on to Revista de la Liga and saw this, the euphoria was unbelievable. That was when the news broke that we were signing Di Maria.

True, but Real have Ronaldo and Bale as wide players. We don't have that luxury unfortunately and it would be harder to fit him in our midfield than it would be to get him out wide.
It'd be easy as feck to fit him in our midfield. We have none at the minute.
