No need to apologise.

At my work you'd be surprised how many airlines file their flight plan an hour later than they mean to mixing up local and gmt. They then blame ATC for their hour delay ;-)
I can imagine. It is rather easy to get confused, plus if we ever followed up on the GMT+2 proposal, then it'd make things so much more confusing haha. I don't think we ever will though to be honest. Not heard anything of it in quite a while.

I think di Maria is going to get a bit of a shock when he steps off the plane though, it's not a great day in Manchester today, rather cold and damp haha

I wonder if Di Maria could play right wing back this season. Something like this:

----Jones/Smalling---Evans/Smaling-----Rojo/Blackett----
---------------Herrera---------Fletcher----------------------
--Di Maria--------------------------------------------Shaw--
--------------------------Mata-------------------------------
------------Rooney-------------------RVP-------------------

It would be only for this season as I have no doubt van Gaal will switch to 4-3-3 by the start of next season after having 3 transfer windows to rebalance the squad to his liking. Then Di Maria could move to left wing/forward with Adnan on the right.

I honestly think we will abandon 3 at the back once everyone is fit. I could see Di Maria playing as right sided midfielder with Herrera and Carrick/Fletch. I think we'll revert to 4 at the back too with Jones/Rafael at right full and Rojo/Evans/Smalling rotating at CB.

It really is. SSN showed the sign on the club shop window. No R's and no J's.

Even on a day when Balotelli and Di Maria are arriving in the north west, it's still a slow news day

Feck, we really are signing De Jong.

£163m spent this year already if we assume £50m up front for Di Maria. People will still go on about how we don't sign players though and how Glazers are restricting us.
Technically the Fellaini fees is on last year's records. So its £136m + £48 = £184m, which is pretty darn close to the £200m war chest that was promised. All I want is one more big signing, preferably Vidal for £40m and we can all call it a day!

Angel Di Maria!!!!!!!!! WOW we actually signed the best player in the world. I'm shocked. Only buying Toni Kroos would have struck me harder! MAMAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! WOHOO!

That 200m figure was mentioned AFTER Mata was signed, so we could spend another 100m before the window closes ;)

Nah, it's:

£37m Mata
£30m Herrera
£30m Shaw
£16m Rojo
£50m Di Maria

£163m this year alone.

Technically we should have £74m left if we assume £50m for Di Maria, £30m for Herrera and Shaw each and £16m for Rojo.

I think we'll spend £30m on Blind and De Jong.

Does he need a work permit as well?
Yes, i think so, but because he's an established international player, it's a lot easier for him to get a UK Work Permit.

According to a website i read about football work permits, the usual route taken is this:
To issue a Certificate of Sponsorship the club will need to obtain an endorsement for the player from the appropriate governing body for his sport confirming that the player is internationally established as a player or coach at the highest level, and will make a significant contribution to the development of football at the highest level in the UK. As a result Certificates of Sponsorship can usually only be issued to international football players of the “highest calibre” who are considered able to make a significant contribution to the development of the game of football in the United Kingdom at the highest level. The current rules define a player as automatically being of the highest calibre provided:

(1) they have played for their country in at least 75% of its competitive A team matches in the two years preceding the application; and

(2) the player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA world rankings.

So i imagine it'll be rather easy for United to get him a permit. Should be no issue at all really.

I thought it was £64 mill for Angel. Either way, I expect this war chest to be emptied this week

He probably has Italian/Spanish/random passport.

£50m up front plus £14m in add ons apparently but I might be wrong.

Why is it 50m when the subject says 63.9m?

Will it be rising to 75m as Ive heard from elsewhere?

Midfield and CB still need fixing. Great signing but we still have major probs.

We don't need another CB. We have Rojo, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Keane and Blackett for (hopefully) 2 spaces.

What shirt number should he wear?

Most likely £48m up front plus the rest in the future, some of it based on add-ons.

We've spent a decade urging the club to conclude a deal of this magnitude, now it's on the verge and some are still disappointed. :D

I don't think anyone is disappointed. I think some are just concerned about other gaps in the squad.
They should relax and enjoy the transfer, it's the biggest in our history. van Gaal will rectify the squad, but it won't be overnight.

Guys, all we need for this season is a CM in the destroyer, box-to-box mould and top 4 should be assured if we stop playing 3-5-2, because that is clearly not going to work in the Premier League.

Haha! Well as long as they have enough "7" to print, all will be fine!
Oh and have ppl blamed Woody yet for a lack of investment in the letter "R"?

I agree. Midfield is more of a concern right now. If we get to choose one more signing this week, I would pick a proper midfielder over a defender. The defenders we have out when they come back will actually improve us in Evans, Rafael and Shaw. But with midfielders coming back in Ando, Fellaini and Carrick they may not be much help unless Carric can pick up his old form.

A defensive midfielder would complete this side IMO. It's the difference between a good team capable of beating anyone and a team overrun by Sunderland.
