Breaking news on SSN from outside Carrington just now.

The club shop has run out of the letter R. No getting Di Maria on your shirt today.

I was more concerned about the 22% crossing accuracy.

I'm not interested in his Rs.

A top player picking us, who aren't in the Champions League, over PSG with all their money and Champions League?

And people are not excited because we are supposedly "overpaying"? Sort out your priorities folks!

I know right? 20% better than what we currently have.

22%

True - but for that money I'd want at least 50!

How can we be happy about this when we slag off other teams for over-paying?

If he proves worth it, it will compensate somewhat, but it's still bloody wrong.

I have an image in my head of Angel trying to smile in front of the wet Carrington entrance this afternoon for photos, holding up his Di Ma ia shirt.

I know I've come across as a Grinch on this signing but as long as we spend on other areas and fill it with quality, I'm fine with this signing, even though he is way overpriced.

Now having said that, can't wait to see him in a United shirt!

I can hardly believe this. So excited, he's a genuine world class player in a position where we've been lacking for years

Wouldn't PSG be a possible risk though?

Surely di Maria knew if he signed for PSG, then there could have been an FFP sanction, which meant no Champions League football anyway. With the way PSG have been blatantly disregarding their FFP rules, it's likely they could receive further punishment if they continue to spend. Plus the French league isn't as competitive as the Premier League, there would be more of a challenge coming to United.

Would you rather Glazer just pocketed all the cash?

The private jet will impress Ms Cardoso. Good, cause this seems like one player's girlfriend we would want to keep happy. She could potentially unleash hell on us and orchestrate a wage hike or a move through Instagram likes.

We mainly slag other teams when they pay over the top fees for not particularly good players (Lallana), we complain when we don't sign world class players like other massive teams do. When you want to sign a world class player, you have to pay an inflated fee, no doubt about it. Real did it with Bale/James, Barca did it with Suarez, we're now doing it with Di Maria. That's how the market is and I don't particularly give a feck really. I'd prefer to spend this money on one of the best wingers in the world right now rather than constantly spend £16M on more Ashley Young's and Antonio Valencia's.

I'm not getting my hopes up. I still fully believe that as soon as he signs the contract he'll rip off his mask and BOOM - he's actually Bebe.

Regardless of how little it effects you or I, it will still impact the club. If we had an endless flow of cash with owners who didn't give a shit about spending it then fair enough but thats not the case.

We spent 27mil on Fellaini (10-15mil over priced)
We spent ~37mil on Mata (If we weren't so desperate, coulda saved 5-10mil)
We spent ~27mil on Shaw (5mil over priced)
If rumours are true, we are about to spend £63mil on Di Maria, a player who clearly wants to leave the club. Still worth the money but again about £10mil over priced.

Everybody knows we are desperate to make big signings and that is clearly having a huge impact on the people at United negotiating these fees. From 4 transfers you are looking at between £30-40mil extra which could be spent on Carvalho/Vidal(+Hernandez) etc etc.

We don't have an endless flow of cash and while I don't care if we over spend here and there; all of our transfers have seemed steep and that will eventually mean we can't buy as many players.
The richest and biggest clubs have and will nearly always pay a premium on players because everyone knows they can afford it and don't want to be told no. The issue is making sure we choose the right players.

Let's hope he does a Gareth Bale and justifies it then.

Hearing people moan about this price is pretty weird. The other alternative is that Glazers pocketing the cash. What do the people prefer?

Bale will never justify his fee Livvie, it's impossible. I think you're looking at it wrongly here, with players and fees like this, it's not about justifying the price tag, it's about paying that premium because you're a massive club and you know you're getting a great player. Asking that player to justify such extortionate fees is pointless, unless their name is Ronaldo or Messi.

No one knows what our fixed budget is. We could well go and spend £50m more in this window.

Yep.

All the reports of 200-250m budget seems to be true.

Real spent 80m EUR on James, who apart from the WC had one good season at Monaco. They also spent 100m on Bale, 30m on Isco(to probably bench him) and 32m on Illara(probably same with Isco). It's not only United. Besides, not so long ago our record signing was Berbatov in the 30m pounds mark.

£163m spent this year already if we assume £50m up front for Di Maria. People will still go on about how we don't sign players though and how Glazers are restricting us.
