Am I the only one around here who's thinking that United is pammsively overpaying for this guy? I mean, feckin' 80 million €? That's 30 more than Özil, who was 2 years younger at the time and the much bigger star in terms of merchandise value. Real even WANT to ship this guy out.
Well, the times of letting go Robben for 25 million € are probably over. :D

You must be mighty pleased he won't be around to hand Alves a new one in another Classico? :p

Staggering amount of money to be paying for a 26 year old. Can't be helped though, we desperately need to inject some quality into our squad and di Maria is available. Madrid are basically getting their Ronaldo money back.

Still, a bit strange that we're paying so much for him when Balotelli is going for 16 million (though he plays in a different position).

It's almost like he's 38. A 26 year old still has AT LEAST 5 years at his peak level, possibly beyond that. Robben is 30 now and better than ever.

Balotelli and Di Maria aren't even comparable. Different level.

Oi, you! Mind the positivity.

Hang on, is 26 suddenly meant to be old now? I can't keep up!

You can't compare a key player in last year's champions league winning team to a bad boy madman! Balotelli is an utter nutjob, nowhere near the same class. Except in his own head.

It's simple for me. He's consistently been one of RM and Argentina's best player. Last season arguably the best and certainly Argentina's at the World Cup IMO. Look at those teams Line ups and what they achieved last year and you see his standing in world football. He's goes off people's radar cause he plays in teams that have 2 of the greatest footballers in modern times.

This lad is probably the best player in the world currently in his position. He's worth every penny and only second to Messi in an Argentina shirt and Ronaldo and Bale in a RM shirts. How much are they worth again?

We'll make a fair bit if the fee back in shirt sales

Do we actually earn money from shirt sales?
We get the sponsors payment, and the sponsor gets the actual money from sales I thought.

Otherwise it's a bloody lot of money to be paying £70m a year for!

No one will buy a shirt with "Angel Fabian Di Maria Hernandez" on it.

It will look really weird when the name is in two rows, or the 1st part above the number, and the other part below.

yeah, hoping we don't go down the Ander Herrera route with his shirt name. Di Maria - 7 keep it simple.

Unless we bring in a midfielder of equal excitement (I know, fat chance!!), I'd be tempted to get my first United shirt for 10 years since Ferdinand and Keane. Got to be Di Maria 7 hasn't it really!

It's as ppl have forgotten what Chevrolet/AON/Adidas are/will pay us. And I can't wait for all the Noodle deals now that we have signed a very unique record breaking Noodle

If we don't spend the money we are getting, ppl will complain soon enough where all that money went, like they did when the Ronaldo money wasn't spent.

All is relative also, for me a world class and proven player just before his peak for 64 mil is "better" than a 19 year old for 28 mil! And if he is worth it then why not Di Maria?

Too bad he can't play midfield and the wing at the same time. Does he have a twin brother by any chance?
He actually did play a mixture of both imo. He definitely didn't play as an orthodox CM. He was on the left of a midfield three with Modric and Alonso so he had more of a licence to get forward and create/join the attack than a normal CM might.
I can't embed the graphic but this is how they lined up: http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/738771/Live
For me he could be great in that position next to Carrick and Herrera (who knows, we might even have Vidal) which allows three attackers to play in front and doesn't stifle Di Maria's creativity.

I don't care how much we pay for him, i still can't believe people are moaning about how we are overpaying, we are buying Di Maria a winger who can actually cross, score, assist, go past players, compared to the shit Valenica, young serve up every match even if we pay 100 million for him i don't care because he is very important for us and we are desperate. And another thing that was coming out about how we'd sign only those players wanting to play for us, seems true with all players pushing for a move to sign for us.

We pay £48m upfront. The other £15m is add ons, £10m of which they are not going to see anytime soon. That is a pretty good deal for a player of Di Maria's quality.

Pretty amazing how they papers are all twisting the fee, making it reek of United's "desperation".

IIRC, generally when it happens, deals are all reported at the "initial amount" etc. Right? Or am I paranoid.

Yeah. They wont report it anywhere as £48m up front. They want to focus on the bigger number.

Yea people forget how bad Valencia nani young are, we need di Maria just has bad as a CM, and we can switch systems again with him on board

I remember when I was 17 and thought 25 is grandfather territory... Now that I am approaching it, I know this is not the case.

What the feck would we do with Balotelli. We have Rooney, RvP and Mata who would all start ahead of him

 Are you okay there? You seem to be losing your mind.

Someone should start making images with Di Maria, Ronaldo and Vidal together and start sending them to the latter players significant others. Hopefully we can bait an Instagram like or two.

And Milan are broke as feck so will take whatever they can get. Also, since when is signing someone at 26 a concern?
