Mata vs Di Maria? Really?

We're (hopefully) going to have both of them soon and they're both great players. Why compare them?

Media? Ancelotti said he wanted to leave and it was confirmed they offered a new contract that he rejected.

Madrid won't sell their players unless they get extortionate fee for them, they simply don't care, it's how they operate. They put a price on a player and if you won't meet it, tough.
They sold the likes of Sneijder and Robben for peanuts basically, because at that time, they didn't care as long as new players keep coming in.

It is recently they have adopted to put a price tag on a departing player, and I'm assuming it would be because of the FFP. Rather get 50 mils for a player than sell him for 25 mils and look for the balance amount elsewhere.

I would say it's true considering the media campaign going on against Di María and the fact that he has no place on the pitch right now.
Sunday's AS published the result of a fan poll: 85% wanted Di Maria to stay. It was front page news. Hardly evidence of a media campaign going on against him.

Di Maria is quicker, has better dribbling and can beat players consistently. Di Maria has shone in El Classico and a UCL final. He has reached heights in huge games of extreme importance which Mata has never in his career.
Mata has done the same, been the best player for his team 2 years in a row, has a better end product as well.

Barring pace, Mata has done almost everything di Maria has, if not more.

That's just what people on here like to do.

Heaven for bid we just appreciate two world class players and enjoy having them at the club, instead let's compare them and rule one of them out of the starting lineup.

Last to last season Mata carried Chelsea at times against all kinds of opponents taking them to a CL spot. The season before he was a important part of a CL winning run as well. He has had a more consistent record throughout his career as well starting from La Liga.

Difference is he wasn't what we needed most but still a quality player and as good as Di Maria.

Hes not, but he is a quality player.

becase we cant see how di maria, mata will both get in the side at the same time

If LVG persists with either the current formation or even a 4-3-3 then no, likelihood is that Juan sits out unless he plays on the left hand side.. should LVG adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation then there is no reason why both Juan and Angel can play together.

Either way I say it's a nice problem for LVG to have.

Di Maria has done it in the Classico's against Barca and a UCL final where he changed the game when he dribbled past 2-3 players. The magnitude and importance of the games is what i'm talking about.

End product? Di Maria created 91 goal scoring chances last season, highest in Europe.

Fan poll.
"Saving Private Di Maria" was the headline. They were praising Di Maria to the high heavens.

Also, Ancelotti himself said that it was the player's decision to leave, the club wanted him to stay.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures of him arriving at the airport or being driven into Old Trafford/Hospital where we do medicals.

Quick question for those of you who have watched di Maria regularly the past year. Is he still as much of a diver as he used to be?

Ancelotti has no say on who comes or goes or what happens at the club. He is a yes man like he's always been. Bringing in Bale wasn't his idea, like it wasn't his idea to bring in James. Do you think it was Ancelotti who chose Zidane as his second manager last season? Or chose Hierro this season? This is Pérez's club.
Yeah I'm not denying that, but the idea that Real are actively trying to sell him in simply wrong. They'll only sell a player if someone meets their extortionate asking price. They'll happily keep them otherwise, just like they're doing with Khedira now.

4231 works on paper but as we sore last year rooney and mata did seem to struggle to work togther in that formation as everyone sort of ended up trying to do the same thing. but if LVG can coach them better maybe it would wrk....

but either way your right......it is a very nice problem to have

He is in the Robben category, if you touch them they go down. But they try to stay on their feet if you don't.

It's a great deal for Real. Let's hope it will be an even better deal for us. My worry is that the expectations will be sky high and that's rarely a good thing.

It's one thing to perform well when you are surrounded by world class palyers and have great passers of the ball like Modric and Alonso behind you and pacy powerful attackers like Bale and Ronaldo next to you, it's quite another to perfoprm well in the current United team. We need AdM a lot and therefore take the risk to over pay a lot but we must be patient about his perfomances. I don't think he'll hit the ground running.

That's slightly misleading stat though good to gauge a general idea. Leighton Baines was the highest the season before with 97 just in the league. It gets boosted if you are delivering free kicks especially -

Di Maria performed well in the CL final and 2nd half of last season no disputing that but Mata has been excellent as well before as i said above. Different skill set but they are similar level of players. (We definitely need Di Maria's skillset more if i had to choose one.)

We'll make a fair bit if the fee back in shirt sales

No one will buy a shirt with "Angel Fabian Di Maria Hernandez" on it.

It will look really weird when the name is in two rows, or the 1st part above the number, and the other part below.

No chance. It's a bank holiday in England so the cash can't be transferred.

If we commit to paying certain amount and sign a official contract with Real which gets registered with FIFA IIRC. Doesn't matter if we pay tomorrow instead.

Guess he'll fly over today for his medicals etc.. atleast.
