feck the Britsh core, overpriced. Overrated and only occasional ones like Shaw are good enough. City and Chelsea are the ones doing it right.

Most of them are pampered and bigged up by the media from a very
With a manager not from the British isles, I think it'll be different.

David Gill orchestrated a transfer worth almost £20 million for Ashley Young from Aston Villa with one year left on his contract. We have form for overpaying, and it's not something that can be avoided for the most part, sadly.
Well the manager at the time told him he was Giggs replacement and the player to breach the gap between us and Barcelona. Yes we've overpaid before not by this much this many times.

Especially now, when we just can't afford NOT to sign. We're desperate and the world isn't blind.

It's not that bad, really. I don't think we overpaid for Rojo. Shaw? That was always going to cost a lot, being English and hyped and all. And you were simply never going to get Herrera for less than his release clause. Fellaini was obviously a small disaster, for more than one reason.

We over paid by like 15m max. Hardly too much. For a player of his quality, it was a do whatever you can to bring him in, regardless of the fee. We just needed him here.

This is the "value" mantra coming back to bite the club - now we have a squad packed with mediocrity that will be hard to shift while we are having to overpay for quality as everyone knows we are desperate. Hopefully the "penny wise, pound foolish" lesson has been learnt for future squad maintenance and rebuilding.

we're the only ones who's interested and has the capability of signing him yet are paying 63 mill quid?
PSG were also in for him. However, do you really care about the price at this time, we can still buy players no matter what Di Maria costs.

Surely can't be worth the money? I haven't seen that much, but didn't think he was on the top level yet, that's the same fee as Suaréz roughly

He's as good as Suarez at what he does. He's better than Cavani who cost only slightly less and better than James who cost more as well. It's evident we have money to burn after saving up for years and you cannot buy a player better than Di Maria in the market right now.

After looking at our squad that played and struggled to threaten a team like Sunderland, do you guys really care if we are overpaying a bit for a position that we are weak in?

Very good news then, heard he was a beast at CM last year, think we will use him there or wide left?

I don't think he is as good as Suarez frankly. Still damn good but not that level.

He is better than Rodriguez and Cavani though. Rodriguez is younger and more a potential buy tbf as he has a higher ceiling.

Will be interesting to see whether he has upped his game as a winger as well or just ACM was his best position.

feck knows, his best form at Real came in the middle but he's also a world class winger. Trouble is we need both a CM of his mould and a winger of his mould but we can only pick him once.

I don't think Rodriguez has a higher ceiling at all.

He is as good as Suarez IMO, based on last season. Prior to that I've been often unimpressed by him but he really stepped it up and proved his worth. He brings a lot to the table and we pretty much desperately need everything he can do.

We will use him in both positions I'd imagine, will depend on who we are facing, formations etc.

I just hope we won't stick to 352 because he'll be absolutely wasted in every single position in that formation. At full back he'll be restricted, in CM next to Herrera he will have to worry about defensive stuff too much - well we could use him as an offensive midfielder but that'd be wasting Mata on the bench. 352 has to go now.

Based on last season even Suarez was better. His goalscoring record and even his contribution to general play was phenomenal in a worse team. (31 goals and 12 assists in 33 appearances without any set pieces is Ronaldo Messi level almost.) Based on last 3 seasons the gap increases even more.

Hopefully Di Maria can mantain his form at ACM last season as a wide player too.

For me, I feel Di Maria is comparable to Suarez. If you offset the attitude of Suarez, the amount of bans he gets in a season. I think we got Di Maria at a cheaper price in comparison to Suarez.

Couldn't agree more, I've never liked the 3-5-2 formation, it's been tried before by various teams and it very rarely works, especially in the Premier League.

Di Maria was Real Madrid's best player last season and we are talking about a team that won Champions League. I'd say his last season was about as good as Suarez's even if his numbers might not exactly be as impressive. Prior to that he was worse.

We're buying Real Madrid's most in form player over the last 12 months. It's a massive coup for the club, bigger than van Persie and Mata. It's quite unbelievable that we'll have Di Maria, Mata, van Persie and Rooney in one team, it's a dream team, and we'll probably still play shit football and finish 8th.

It's a fantastic attack when you also consider we have Januzaj and Kagawa to step in as well. If we can get the defence and midfield functioning to a decent degree, we could see some lovely football this season.

Was he not Madrids player of the season last year? That's a pretty big achievement in its self considering they won the Champions League, not to mention the players he had to beat to get it.

Yep, quite unbelievable that we're signing Di Maria now and I still don't expect us to be half decent football for the rest of season. I don't know what we have to do to win.

Exactly this. It's all doom and gloom at the moment, however it's clear the team is going to get considerably stronger.

I agree with that, the same can also be said about Ballotelli they have the ability to do amazing things but there are huge downsides e.g attitude, incidents on the pitch and outside of football. It also hurts the team as a whole when these players get involved in such incidents. But World class footballers like Ronaldo and Messi and Di Maria work damn hard all the time and when they are not having very good games they don't get involved in nonsense out of frustration or whatever. Teams cannot afford those types of players as Liverpool/Barca will realise- when it's good it's really good but when it goes tits up it's always at the detriment of the team. Di Maria is worth every penny for this reason alone.

Vidal and Hummels then. One of blind and or De Jong will join United though.

Vidal is the obvious one and Carvalho should be the alternative, not Blind and no way de Jong!

Hummels is not going to happen and Martinez' injury will most probably mean Benatia is going to Bayern. Really don't know who to look at then. Should have gone for Garay but now, its difficult to get quality

Hummels was a sarcastic suggestion. That one has been a non starter from the get go.

Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini = £64.1m vs Angel Di Maria £63.9m

Which deal would you take?
