First off, it will be a sensational coup if we pull this off. Di Maria is a sublime player, and him wanting to join us even without Champions League football this year shows how big our brand still is. Yes we may have overpayed a bit. Not alot, but a bit. Think of this though; How many of our reported 650m+ fans will buy a shirt with his name and number on? I for sure will, and at roughly £65 each... you do the math.

They've replaced Ozil with JRod, and Di Maria with Bale.....yes odd summers, but Ronaldo, and well any fan should be delighted, two improvements. And somehow it only cost them £40m. From not caring about selling cheap, Madrid now own the transfer market. Wouldn't be surprised to see Isco sold for more than Neymar in a summer or two.

They're improvements in terms of goalscorers, but in terms of assist-makers they don't compare. That is why Ronaldo would be hacked off: his service won't be nearly as good as with Di Maria and Ozil.

If you're going to post a fecking Spanish tweet can you please translate it first? That's like the 5th one today.
I don't know Spanish but I worked out quite easily that Marcelo is thanking him for everything he has done for Madrid and that he will always be his HERMANOOOOOOO.

No doubt he'll be a good signing if this comes about, even at over £50million. However, it won't even matter and we probably still wouldn't finish in the top four unless we see more investment in the defence and midfield. These extravagant signings that keep the muppets happy are all well and good, but we really need the grafters behind them more to let them flourish.

Also, if LvG isn't going to suddenly abolish the 3412, then who does he replace? And well, if Rooney/van Persie/Mata are going to be the basis of the side in a 4231, then who is left there...? Rooney going to have to play on the left?

If you've seen Di Maria at all, you'd know he's the definition of a grafter. The guy is non-stop hard work. He can play in CM as well and quite well he does it too.

Can't wait for his first appearance on MOTD.

'He's quick, he's fast and he's got pace.'

'Yeah, and also, he's really speedy isn't he. He gets up and down the pitch so quickly.'

'Definitely. And I tell you what, he's no slouch either. He's more hare than tortoise.'

Hmm I don't know what Real are doing really. AdM is probably one of their best players, they bring in James who I don't think currently is better than Di Maria and is only 3 years younger for a fee that is way above his worth IMO and they have Isco through their ranks who will be the next player probably they will offload.

Then there is Illarramendi who will find even less playing time with Kroos being bought.

When something is working why brake it. They needed only a GK and Striker. If they offload Di Maria I think it will make them weaker than last year.

 Valencia will now see how taking on a man and putting in a cross looks like

I feel sorry for him, with Januzaj in the ascendancy and Di Maria arriving - where will we be without Toni's 40 misplaced crosses per game?

Great player when he first arrived, mind.

Thank you for everything you have done for Real Madrid. You are a great friend.

I don't feel sorry for him, he's very frustrating. Surprised he wasn't on the out list. Saved by his defensive abilities.

Had a quick look at rawk, predictable really they think he's worth 30 Mil and that we're crazy for bidding for him.
I suppose they believe Sterling is worth 80m sterling with his huge potential.

I know he works hard, but that's not why we're buying him IMO. He's not going to be a wing back and I don't think he is going to play in a midfield three of Herrera, Mata, and himself... There's just no real ball winner and our defence obviously cannot be relied upon completely. We need a defensive midfield player and another defender more than Di Maria, I think that has to be obvious to everybody. It doesn't take away that Di Maria will be a fantastic signing and player for us, but if he doesn't come with another two players in positions we need then it probably won't get us to where we want to be.

He knows full well what it looks like. He used to be shit-hot at it himself. Then he just plum forgot how to be a winger.
Yep, weird that people blame his leg break that time. But when he came back he was back to his awesome self, it was like it never happened. It was like he just lost all of his attacking confidence.

Pure jealously because they know they haven't got a hope in hell of signing players of this class.

So Sanchez dismisses liverpool and we get a better player than Sanchez and so we overpaid? If we don't spend it what do we do with the cash, pay dividends?

We only get a small % out of revenue generated from shirt sales but I know what you mean, it still amounts for a lot of money. New number 7, haven't had this type of quality wearing the shirt since Ronaldo left will generate a lot of excitement. I could see Di Maria selling the greatest number of shirts in the premier league. I'm not buying one this year because of the sponsorship change but I will next season.

Signings like this for a club as big and as rich as us shouldn't be 'surreal' though, thats why the squad is in the state it currently is.
Agree 100%. Had Sir Alex opted to pay those 8m agent fees we would also have Hazard in our lineup right now. It's about time we showed that we're willing to pay that premium for top shelf players.

Worth a repost I think.

LVG has always said 352 which I still found strange because he does not have enough wingers to play the system he wants which is true, di maria changes all this. It still does not change the fact united have needed a winger, just has bad as the defence and midfield. We have no speed in our team, apart from janazaj, there is a lack top quality wingers at the club. You also forgetting this signing benefits mata, and with welbeck most likely he will be leaving, its pretty obvious van gaal is going for 4231/433, VG knows RVP must be used carefully, so the di maria makes sense. Di Maria balances out our attacking play, and a combination of di maria and janazaj could be one of our strongest combinations. Players will be sold, and there is a certain khedia available for less than 15 million

Herrera ??
di maria mata janazaj
rooney

if another CM player is signed, VG has the tools at his disposal too see united move forward, di maria is just that system game changer that we have needed
