Gary Neville just said on SSN that he feels Di Maria is perfect as he adds the pace that United have not only been missing, but that United have built their success on over the last 15 odd years. He feels he will be played as a winger for United and he said after speaking to LvG that he knows LvG will only buy players he wants to fit his system. He also added he felt Fellaini and Mata were BOTH pressure buys (his words)
That's no secret

He's not wrong. We desperately needed a player who can run with the ball and take it past players to make our attack actually work. Januzaj often looked like our best player because he was the only one capable of this, now we have one of the very best in the world at it. Also you can't really argue too much with the Mata and Fellaini point but now that we have Mata and others to compliment him I think he'll shine.

I agree that it makes sense, I guess what I am worried about is his attitude. I really hope its a move that he wants, not one hes been pushed into. If his attitude aint right then it doesn't matter how much sense it makes. Saying that though, I rate him highly and if he plays like we know he can then its an excellent signing.

We really do not know, ozil was very simular at arsenal has he was at real madrid, quality player if it suits him, di maria seems like that type of guy that would play football in hurricaine conditions, he is that fighting type player that is needed, one hell of an engine. The only worry like you said, no matter what we think of united, these Madrid boys may find moving from Real a culture shock, only thing we can hope for, is? he asked for a transfer, so he was very much prepared to leave the european champions

He is a united type of player, and he reminds me of the kanchelskis style, a rampaging winger with that pace we have been lacking. Its just a huge system change he is going to give us, and the system LVG wants to play, 433. Has long as he gets away from 352, it will benefit janazaj, and the squad overall

I don't think, I quite confidently state that ozil is more naturally talented than di maria. His touch, vision and skills are better than di marias, among other things and while he was a big game bottler at real, di maria was worse until the second half of last season in his midfield role . He was clearly the better player in his first three seasons. However like I stated earlier, di maria has a better attitude and works harder and is more flexible and last year in a midfield role played at a level higher than ozil ever has. If ozil can overcome the weak mentality he has (especially in big games) he will realise his potential and become the player he is capable of being (world class and among the best).

Ozils bound to flourish in that Arsenal side under Wenger then.....lolz.

I feel sorry for the defenders.

Madrid might not miss him much for most of their games, but definitely will in the big games especially against Barca. He was the best player on the pitch vs them pretty much every time.

When did this Di Maria story actually pick up? It feels like the journos were hardly in the loop for this one again.

So with di maria signed, what are peoples expectations for the season now?

Watching the presser... he's definately out then.

either your club has become crazy or there´s something your club is not telling about dimaría

why are you selling him? why?

and don't tell me that he wants to leave, because that happened after your club didnt make him a good -and much deserved- contract after what he did for your team last season

And Madrid did everything to keep him? What a bunch of bullcrap! They did the opposite. They wanted him gone and treated him that way.

He's right.

He is partly right about mata, but with di maria signing, it helps mata now that he has wingers either side of him like janazaj and di maria, which gives mata more options to choose from, instead of just rooney.

Because Perez is in need of a new toy and he got it in James Rodriguez and as a result the old toy is being discarded. He is basically like a kid.

Because Florentino lacks what your post here has, sense.

£80 million for Bale and £60+ million for Rodriguez in one year, pretty much players in positions where Di Maria plays is some message.

Shiny new toys coming in really. Can't imagine Ancelotti is too pleased about this, nor Ronnie in fact.

It was on and off for the past couple of weeks especially with PSG dropping out and the way Madrid were treating him. But it properly picked up only yesterday with Ballbag saying he has chosen us over the others.

Can we stop envying Real's spending now? Sounds like a circus.

Ronaldo wasn't happy when Ozil left either. Pretty sure he is going to be fine.

I honestly don't get how Benzema has survived there this long. You move Ronaldo up top with Di Maria, Bale and Rodriguez behind him.

I'll try to reassure you, think about Makelele, he was pushed out of the club, but gave everything for Chelsea. And Di Maria wants to go for more than a year, and still managed to have his best season ever.

They've replaced Ozil with JRod, and Di Maria with Bale.....yes odd summers, but Ronaldo, and well any fan should be delighted, two improvements. And somehow it only cost them £40m. From not caring about selling cheap, Madrid now own the transfer market. Wouldn't be surprised to see Isco sold for more than Neymar in a summer or two.

mate, real madrid history was made by players like dimaría, players that played better during the difficult games

every time you faced barcelona, every time you had to win or win, dimaría was one of your best players

not benzema!!!

anyway, thank you! thank you! thank you!

i owe you a blow job

dwayne, do it

I agree. I was just posting what he said. I've missed watching United marauding down the wings at speed either counter attacking or just flat out ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK, as home fans often demand if United are losing or winning 5-0. Kanchelskis, Giggs, Ronaldo, even Blomqvist and Poborsky all did this quite beautifully. But last year all we had was run, hoof, cross. I think Di Maria fits Uniteds style like a glove. And although he was mainly a signing to appease the fans and actually prove United could get a world class player, I just hope we can utilise Mata properly. I love the guys skill, his grace, and his attitude. He has that Cantona essence about him (minus the arrogance) in the way he just effortlessly does things that others could only dream of doing. He's also a cheeky little sod who seems to fit in so well with the squad.

I know it's so schoolboy but this clip always makes me smile.

If this deal finally goes through, which seems so likely now, then we definitely can. We have to remember that only two players have gone for over £40 million to English teams, so for us to not only go over that but make it a British record (unless it's the original £45 million stated) is a huge statement from Woodward and his puppet masters. And it also breaks the £100 million spending mark in a summer which is also huge.

No doubt he'll be a good signing if this comes about, even at over £50million. However, it won't even matter and we probably still wouldn't finish in the top four unless we see more investment in the defence and midfield. These extravagant signings that keep the muppets happy are all well and good, but we really need the grafters behind them more to let them flourish.

Also, if LvG isn't going to suddenly abolish the 3412, then who does he replace? And well, if Rooney/van Persie/Mata are going to be the basis of the side in a 4231, then who is left there...? Rooney going to have to play on the left?

@Dwazza Van Hernandez , I'm on a lunch break right now.

The third surreal signing in 24 months. Cant believe we are getting Di Maria.
Signings like this for a club as big and as rich as us shouldn't be 'surreal' though, thats why the squad is in the state it currently is.
