As long as there are signs that we're in for him and that is the reason (if he doesn't come), I'll be fine. But there's no excuse for not going for him, especially as LvG literally said by name that he's the sort of player we need.

Most muppets are less rational than that, though.

There will be hundreds if hilarious gags about low ball bids etc.

Does anybody know how they're handling the 75% top tax rate in France? It wouldn't surprise me if PSG have some sly way of getting round it.

It is already in the process of happening. Look at the amount of "just pay what they want" posts. As if it's that simple.

It is very possible that Di Maria couldn't care less about United and has zero interest in joining us. Pay him massive wages is the retort. Probably from people who have accused other players of being mercenaries.

Difference is Di Maria is looking to leave primarily because Madrid won't meet his demands and not because he is not rated/loved there. So if we are ready to meet his demands, we could actually land him.

If players are willing to play in Ligue 1 then players are willing to move to England and go without Europe for a year. PSG are not winning the champions league anytime soon.
Paris + CL + Ligue 1 > Manchester + no CL + Premier League for most players probably.

He's more than likely the only chance of signing a world class player at the top of his game in the next 2 weeks or so and I don't believe Woodward or the Glazers to be ready to do what it takes to sign him.

We can't offer CL football. So it's highly unlikely.

So he can stay at Real Madrid, hardly play in Europe. Go to PSG, play against rubbish teams every other week, or move to Man Utd and revitalize the squad and be one of the star players. PSG are not a great destination football wise, they have a good team but if anything a lot of top players they signed regressed since moving there (Except Zlatan).

As I had mentioned earlier, it's difficult to imagine most players whining over missing out on CL for one year if we are ready to offer them what they want. In Di Maria's case it is reported to be around 8million euros/year. Maybe we could sweeten it for him for missing out on the CL by giving him a joining bonus. Basically mean to say money will get you most top players if we are ready to pay what essentially is a non-CL tax for a year.
Plus he can always have a release clause in his contract if we don't make the CL next season as well.

Edit: Not to mention, he would be moving to an actual behemoth of world football. Very dissimilar to when the likes of Toure/Nasri/Aguero joined City who were no-marks that time. It, as usual, will boil down to how much we are willing to pay.

Idk I googled the conversion and it works out closer to £56m. £65 for both Di Maria and Khedira? Even if neither player comes here for lack of CL football, our failure to meet valuations, or agree terms with the selling club really can't be the reason for anymore failed bids for quality players.

Also losing out on being in CL for a year sucks for Di Maria and Khedira, but the EPL is by far and away the most televised league in the world. They will still have plenty of opportunities for millions of people around the world to watch them unlike in Ligue 1, which has virtually no international following.

Paris + CL + Ligue 1 > Manchester + no CL + Premier League for most players probably.

EPL and United have completely different global profile compared to PSG and L1 though.

Extra money might swing it in their favor ofcourse. But can they even pay under FFP.

As it stands, they are a far more attractive proposition to players than Utd. We need to take the rose tinted spectacles off and realise that players are looking at Utd and asking the same question most fans are about the standard of the squad.

oh, and money may a bit to do with it. PSG will frankly pay more than we will.

Like who? Cavani arguably and that's only because he's been played wide right as opposed to up front. As much as we'd all like to believe otherwise, from a neutral footballers perspective they're a more attractive option than we currently are. Do you think players care if they play 'rubbish teams week in week out'? Not to mention they'd be happy to pay what he's asking for from Madrid.

PSG can't sign anyone though until they sell can they? Nobody wants to fork out for Cavani and Lavezzi because quite simply both have regressed and are not top of the range anymore. Must feel like idiots for paying 50 million for Luiz.

He's already at an absolute behemoth and would probably be happy to stay there for another year before banking a mega bucks move to PSG, all the while continuing to play in the CL.

Speculation. He could play a great deal. And at least they are IN Europe.

Go to PSG, play against rubbish teams every other week,

And play in the CL every week. Probably on the same wages that we can offer.

or move to Man Utd and revitalize the squad and be one of the star players

More speculation. We could drop even further away.

If he is willing to wait it out for a year, then obviously he can. But all the noises coming from Madrid and his camp is that he wants out and has been wanting out for a year now.

Like Silva, Pastore, Lavezzi and Cavani. They were all better before that move. Silva is overrated based on his performances in Ligue 1 yet is found out in bigger games. From a footballers perspective, surely money isn't the be all and end all when he would still be getting almost double his current salary at United. Some players do care, of course they do. Do you see Messi and Ronaldo wanting to play in France?

6 games against average opposition and unpredictable knock out rounds where PSG wont get far.

No, but they can take Di Maria on loan and buy him next season if Madrid agree. Woodward could get this done by offering what Madrid want now - instead he waits. Guarantee he waits to long and PSG clinch the deal.

I would think that for many players the draw of the Premier League might outweigh not being in the Champions League. I personally would be 10 times more excited about playing the Premier League than in the shitty French league.

We could buy Di Maria now, and Madrid could buy Falcao with the money. I don't see them agreeing to any loan deals for one of their best players.

There is absolutely no basis for that assertion whatsoever.

There is nothing to suggest it isn't.

Then why are we speculating that we will miss out on him because of lack of CL. We could easily say that we won't get him because we are cheap and won't pay what we need to to get him.

Cavani hasn't regressed though, stick him up top and you'd get the same output from him at Napoli. Lavezzi hasn't either, he's quality, just underrated because he isn't up there in terms of goals and assists. Silva had a poor season by his standards but he's still one of the better all round defenders there is, Pastore's the only one who has looked like a complete flop since going there as he was brilliant before but yeah, he's definitely regressed. On Ronaldo and Messi, no, I don't see them wanting to play in England now either though. What's the difference in playing Burnley to playing Bastia aside from you'd be earning more money while playing against the latter?

There is absolutely no basis for that assertion whatsoever.

Of course there isn't - but lets look at what we know:

1. Di Maria wants to leave
2. Perez wants to sell...for a certain price
3. PSG cannot afford to at the moment due to FFP restrictions
4. Utd have no such FFP restrictions

Er go pay the money - get the player.

Or playing against Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton... What does Ligue un offer? Monaco, who happen to be falling apart already.

I don't think Cavani has regressed, he has still scored quite a few goals even though he is stuck out wide.

Except we have evidence that is not the case.

Perez has a good relationship with his counterpart in Paris. I wouldn't rule it out.

You think playing against Everton & Spurs in a season could be a deciding factor in Di Maria opting for us over PSG?
