Ange Postecoglou | New Spurs boss on 4 year contract

It's an interesting parallel, you have Ange who swears by his approach which many criticise and to a large extent is understandable given recent results. Then you have Erik who has shifted his approach entirely, to resemble an identity he's not coached in his career, due to the players he has. The unsteady element of the team's performances is reflectively predicated on that decision to omit his preferential philosophy. I guess the question becomes which one can stand the test of time and which will prove to be justifiable.

This isn't to compare the credibility of one manager against the other but to assess the impact of how these distinct choices compound themselves over time.

What do you think of our squad in general? Misfiring Rashford, Antony with one leg, players injured all over the sheet, Onana howlers, Varane out in the cold for unknown reasons.

I think you would answer that better than I. It seems your best team is one ETH cannot pick because of his disciplinarian stance and inability to communicate, empathise and make peace (Varane/Sancho).

On paper, your first 11 should be right up there.

In terms of individuals, I bet Onana would look solid in front of Wan-Bis, Varane, Fernandez, Shaw. Did he have lots of clangers at Inter and Ajax?

Rashford is a class act and I'd have him in a heartbeat. It could be the bumper contract cant be a***ed syndrome but I don't think it's that. I think it's what he is being asked to do and he maybe has downed tools which is wrong.

Antony looks like a Pepe type signing, flashes of brilliance but mostly average, sadly. Waste of money and good for the Dutch league, but I could be wrong. I much prefer Sancho.

Sancho has been mostly a flop as well. These bundesliga signings have generally been meh.

So... he still the flavour of the month? Lose today, and that's no win in 5. Wonder how we'd react if he was our manager with this sort of tragic form?

But he implemented his style in just a few weeks I was told. The feck he did, he just fired up the players to run a lot for that sweet new manager bounce.

They are still a one-man team, they just swapped Kane with Maddison.

Sancho is utter shite. He'll be fecked off to another club and unless it's in a significantly worse league, he'll be utter shite there, too.

Anyone still think getting two players sent off through pure idiocy and playing suicide football for the rest of the game was somehow brave as opposed to stupid?

It's quite literally ruined their season

Important not to get carried away in either direction. Always easy to have a good short term impact. Hard to keep it going more than a year or 2. He's shown good aspects but also incredibly naive aspects. Seems a likable guy though. Obviously their squad is no more than a Europa League level team though. Son, Maddison, Romero, kulusevski, the other CB and possibly the keeper are the only guys who are CL level.

Spot on. Winning those early games was a blip. Normality restored now.

They over performed earlier, they're underperforming now.

I think their actual level is pretty similar to us, he'll have them at 6th or so end of season.

This is literally the same thing that happened with Conte & Mourinho. Have a great start, be top at the table and then revert to mean. They have been deciphered and will not qualify for European football this season.

I like him but my god his philosophy seems extremely inflexible. It's not even surprising they keep throwing away leads when they only attack with a high line.

He could lose 10 games in a row and the gormless pundits would still laud him as the greatest manager ever.

Spurs will be around 6th-8th by the halfway mark in the season…so where you’d expect them to be whoever was managing them.

Yeah, but, principles mate.

Principles.

It's why I see a lot of similarities between this Spurs and when Leeds had Bielsa. Attacking all the time is great to watch and all, but they end up leaving a lot of space and suffering because of it.

As a genuine non wind up question, have Spurs effectively hired Bielsa mark II? Or does Ange adapt at all?

A lot in here still have the after taste of his ass on their tongues.

This dip was always going to happen, whether they had injuries or not. Be interesting to see how they recover from it.
 Revolting but it got a chuckle out of me

Scored first in each of their last five games and didn't win any of them. Their game management is quite poor.

It's the failure to admit that it will get them good results like City and bad results like tonight. Bravery can be stupid.
