Ange Postecoglou | New Spurs boss on 4 year contract

All that pissing about treating the ball like a hot potato around the box is pointless.
When it isn’t working they’re an infuriating team to watch.

There is no bigger picture here. Either become a Bielsa , neutral fan favorite and get beating every now and then or be a semi decent manager who knows when to make tweaks.

Even Klopp has evolved from his Gen Gen tactics . In 1 year time, you would have either sacked Ange or Ange would have tweaked his game plan. Mark my words.
I will say this again. Was extremely lucky against City last weekend. You can keep bringing up the injury part but Leeds also had lot of injuries under Bielsa. If you play that tempo ,you are bound to have injuries.

He will need to tweak his tactics. Next is Newcastle. Hope Spurs thrash them but I just don't see it.

Yeah, this isn’t rocket science. If your tactical plan depends on outhustling and outrunning your opponent, it’s going to be difficult to sustain, over the course of matches and over the course of a season. Every team at top level is full of elite athletes.

You’re going to look magnificent and overwhelming at times then it’s going to come crashing down.

Reminds me of Rodgers Liverpool in 2013/14. Rely on the burst of effort at the start of a match to overwhelm the opposition then hope you've scored enough for them to not catch up when you're all gassed at the end of the game.

Feel like Rodgers with Leicester in his debut year (finished 5th did he?) was more impressive than this.

I watched this live and I was in equal parts hysterics and utterly confused as to why Chiellini would say this. It's such an odd comment to throw a club under the bus like that, especially if there's no previous history or bad blood on the pitch etc. I wonder if he says things like that in Serie A but we don't hear of it as we don't get the translation.

It's probably a lot to do with the fact England and English clubs are seen as the great hype/hope whilst the continentals quietly and routinely dismantle them in cup competitions and then say a few things for a laugh.

spurs dominated the match and completely controlled the match which is something we want United to do similar to what we did agianst Chelsea

difference is we got the points and spurs didn't.....honestly don't think many folks woudl complain if United showed the same effort and spirit as Spurs regardless of results

How naive

I wouldn't say they dominated, they had a lot of possession and a lot of poor quality shots sure, what 23 to 11 shots? But ultimately their goal came from a set piece, not some great piece of attacking play.

Having said that Hammers were pretty dire as well. Spurs gave them a goal via an error from Udogie, and the other goal came from a pinball at the edge of the area that fell perfectly at the feet of the only attacking Hammers player. They never actually looked like scoring through their own attacking and build up play.

Its their best start to a season since 1965.
So many were predicting he would struggle and he clearly isnt.
Its a long season, They wont be at the top when the season ends but he has given Spurs fans something to be happy about.
Wish he was here instead of the fraud we have

Do you still believe this?

I'm sure he broke few negative records in the last months. Where's media coverage?

Personally thought the team showed great spirit against Chelsea?

Ange is doing wonderful things at Spurs and he only just started, ETH should take a note. How cant he have a similar success with our team year and a half in.

Am I doing this right?

I hear he's lost half the spurs dressing room. Where's Kaveh when you need him?

It's absolute nonsense that people would be happy losing from four from five, and drawing the other, just because the lads put a shift in with a suicidal tactic.

It's been clear since day one that Ange-ball was going to be prone to complete collapse, I just don't think many people expected it to fall in on itself quite so soon, quite so dramatically, or for five games on the bounce.

Running around like blue-arsed flies and pinging the ball around like it's on a timer to explode isn't a sustainable system, even if it is entertaining to the neutral.

It doesn't even appear to be that great at creating proper scoring opportunities. For comparison, Bielsa's newly promoted Leeds managed to put 3 past Liverpool, 4 past Fulham, 3 past Villa, and 5 past Newcastle in their opening 15 games (and 5 past West Brom in their 16th). Ange-ball has mustered 3+ goals in a game just twice.

You don't think there would be a lot of complaints if United got one draw and four defeats after taking the lead in every one of those game? People would be calling for ETH's head because of poor game management, poor subs, complacent attitude, etc. etc.

They were overperforming their xP when they were top and had a relatively easy fixture schedule. They were expected to drop off.

But this is relegation form

I got in abit of a heated argument with some friends afew months agai about Spurs. I was getting pelters from all sides when I said they would drop off and that their start to the season was more luck than judgement. Credit where it’s due I like Ange and I like their style of play, but I think it’s been obvious from the start that that team isn’t really the real deal. I argued Utd could still easily finish above them and again got soo much stick for it. Now I’m not sure I have full faith in Utd, but at least I know I was bang on with my assessment.

Maybe they know your username here and just can't believe anything you say, however right it may be.

Madison and van Der what's his name are big losses for them. Who knew injuries to a few key players can derail your game :wenger:

He's really likeable but did anyone expect him to do well?

Why not? He did well everywhere he went i believe. And he is doing well overall. Did anyone expect Spurs to compete for the CL spots after losing their best player and signing a bunch of unknown players? He currently got Spurs fifth place and doing so with very entertaining football. Ofcourse he hasnt gotten many results lately but he lost some of his most important players to injury.

He is doing what Spurs fans could have hoped for. Playing for European football spots while providing entertainment. If you arent going to win or be relegated anyway, entertainment is the best you could hope for. Rather be 10th with entertaining football than 5 or 6th with football that is a chore to watch.

Is this some sort of pisstake? This place was in meltdown and ETH was getting pelters everywhere 2 games into a season after finishing 3rd and getting to two cup finals because we lost to Spurs away in a game we should have been out of sight in at HT.

There is always a tendency to overreact to everything in football. This is a perfect example. No manager becomes great because of a few strong results or incompetent for a few bad ones. Football is unpredictable and form heavy and prone to fortune, particularly nowadays with VAR on the scene.

The sniff test with Ange and every other manager has to come over a longer period of time. How do you react to setbacks? How do you deal with other teams adapting to your playing style? Can you keep motivating players over a period of time? Only a few ever succeed at these things consistently and they are all hall of fame managers.

I still think he's had a strong start. He bought good players and they seem to want to run through walls for him. The football is nice to watch. He'll do just fine at Spurs.

Resilience and fortitude are what makes a great manager. Lets see how Ange responds to this.

(Yes I know I sound like Simon Jordan)

are you honestly saying that you think our level of effort and work rate is good each week and consistent???? That's what i'm saying in comparison to what Ange has brought to the spurs team...those guys work their socks off in every match down to every single player
