Ange Postecoglou | New Spurs boss on 4 year contract

God after all that furious fisting in the commentary box and they still fecking lost

It's why I see a lot of similarities between this Spurs and when Leeds had Bielsa. Attacking all the time is great to watch and all, but they end up leaving a lot of space and suffering because of it.
It's the exact same. Leeds would get destroyed and you would have media and pundit wanking over them and how brave they were.

I think the difference with spurs is they will be able to have a higher quality of player than Leeds. I don’t think they’ll challenge for titles, but they can stay around top 4 with this style. Every team has injuries, as we well know, but they’ve lost some key players with long term injuries. They actually bought incredibly well this summer, if they continue that then they’ll be an exciting top 6 side. If Ange becomes a bit more pragmatic and starts managing games from winning positions they could even kick on.

They have to manage games better. Playing with their guns out is good for a large portion of the match, but in the PL it is difficult to sustain that intensity over 60 minutes, let alone 90. Unless they slightly calm down, they will continue to lose games after being ahead.

14 points dropped from winning positions since Nov 6. That's bad game management.

TBF not much he could do about West Ham's goals today, but it's what you get when you rely on the likes of Brennan Johnson to get a goal and Ben Davies to keep a clean sheets.

No chance they'll be top 4. We've seen this playbook so many times before. New manager comes in with attractive attacking style. Some good results, then they get deciphered. Results start slipping, initially people are still enthusiastic because at least the football is entertaining.

After some time even the quality of play starts dropping, because players are tired investing a lot with getting nothing in return / start losing hope in the manager. Fans become disillusioned. Manager gets fired for a new manager who focusses more on stability.

Rinse and repeat.

Spurs will be fine, I think most expected Spurs around 9th-10th when they sold Kane, still think once the injuries return they will be challenging for CL.

Deciphered? I think it has more to do with a small squad hit by injuries than being 'deciphered'

Is that what we saw with Poch?

So many haters in here. Ange is the best thing that has happened to the league in awhile. He'll prove everyone wrong. Spurs have someone special here.

It was coming. Took 2 injuries to undo them.

They'll do well to get Europe this season. They were very fortunate even when playing 'well'.

Think he underestimated the league a bit. Those tactics might have worked 15 years ago, but the quality if the league now is much higher, and any team could hurt you. He doesn't have the calibre of players that you could do that week in week out, so a bit of game management would instantly make them better. They do waste a lot of chances though, and would be in a much better place had Kane been there.

I didn't think the wheels would fall off this badly. Needs to find a pragmatic side to his game as well, very naive.

He’s good for the league absolutely - I guess he’s not got that high a bar to hit given they sold Kane and finished 8th last season, realistically if he can provide more excitement (that’s undoubted) and do the same it’s a success. There’s a definite thought though that a bit more flexibility tactically would make them far better.
