Andreas Pereira

Is he injured ?

Hasn't been involved in a while.

Signed professional terms today.

Great stuff.

Hope to see more of him next season. Would a few League Cup appearances be out of the question, I wonder?

Considering we've not really seen any of the Youth Cup winners of two years ago that are in the ressies, I think it a little unlikely we'll see him for a few years yet.

Plus, I would suggest, from his age group, that we'll see Daehli, Pearson and Januzaj first

He's just turned 17 hasn't he? I'd rather see Daehli, Januzaj, Pearson, Petrucci and Barmby get first time game time rather than Pereira personally. Not that I don't rate the lad, just he's got years to wait whereas people like Petrucci need to start staking a claim.

Pereira scored for Belgium under 17s tonight in a 1-1 draw with Norway

I noticed that Pereira didn't play the day after when the teams met again for a second game. Norway won 3-1 away and are now undefeated in the last 18 matches. The 1990-1996 generations are probably the most talented group of players ever to come out of Norway and should create a really strong national side in 3-5 years

Some would say that it's a brave call but if he feels more Brazilian, it is imo the right call even if he never goes on to play for Brazil.

Is he any good? Haven't seen him at all. He was supposed to be one of the biggest talents in the world for his age group when we poached him from PSV.

Yeah he's pretty good, but like the same thing I used to say with Pogba in his last season, I think he needs to impose himself more in game and take more of a control. Because when he's pulling the strings, well, he pulls the strings.

I think it goes without say that he has good vision, good range of passing and a sweet strike on him.

Yeah I think hes similar to Pogba in that hes more of an impact player at the moment rather than a controller of games. He can go missing for a while but has the quality to pop up with a moment of quality to win the game. The club obviously prefer to play him off the striker at the moment so he can show his quality in the final third but I've always thought hes looked better when dictating the play from deeper like he did in the Milk Cup and for Belgium

Yeah I'd say he's better in a more deeper role, a Scholes type role dictating play. I think he could be a proper CM with the ability to drive forward and take shots on goal. Not too sure about his defensive abilities though? I think he likes to get stuck in though if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah I haven't seen enough of him playing deep to assess his positional defensive ability, but he's a superb tackler. It's one of my favourite things about him, because it's so rare to see such a skilful flair player also able to pull off proper biting tackles.

I definitely see him ending up as a CM not an AM. It's fashionable these days to want to play anyone with quick feet and good dribbling in #10, but a player who can do all that but also pull the strings, win back the ball, distribute from deep etc is a much rarer beast, and is best used in CM where he can draw on the whole range of his abilities. He reminds me of the young Wilshere in that sense.

Imagine a Pearson-Pereira CM partnership.

May get a bit stick of this, but I don't rate him as highly as rest of you do.

I don't think he's been as good as Ravel, Pogba, Adnan or even Daehli in the last few years. Personally find him bit a overrated as I haven't seen dominate a match ever. There's some moments of magic but overall it's not that great.

You've basically taken a bit of what I said (not suggesting you copied me) but in the sense that I feel he needs to impose himself more in matches. I think he's really good, but he just needs to get stuck in more at times and dictate play.

He should be given a new 4-year deal from now. feck this waiting game we have been playing.

Well I'm saying is that I don't see him as a big of talent as Ravel, Pogba, Adnan or Daehli.

Completely different players, I think he'll surprise you.

Agree, think he is good but not as good as some are making out. Think all of the players you named have shown a bit or a lot more.

He tends to use the ball quicker than Ravel, Pogba, Januzaj and Daehli did, taking fewer touches during a match than them. When he's on song he kills teams with his first touch, vision and pass appreciation.

I think he has as much in his locker as our top talents over the last few years but I agree with those saying he needs to find a way to impose himself on games on a more consistent basis. When he has these little patches of doing just that his exceptional potential is quite obvious.

Agreed. When he is at his best, he's as good as anyone in our academy has been. Relative to his age, he's probably even better. But the difference between him and Januzaj is that Januzaj was excellent in almost every match he played, at every level, from the moment he got here. Incredible consistency. Pereira sometimes lets games tick along without seeking to dominate them. He almost never plays badly, but he doesn't exercise the same influence over every game.

If, however, he finds the consistency to play at his top level most of the time, then he will be a truly terrifying prospect. His potential has no ceiling whatsoever.

Very much the case. Whilst clearly way more talented than an 'also ran', the fact he doesn't alway let his talent shine means it is easy for me, KM etc to say he isn't perhaps as talented as some of the aforementioned players.
