14 times or not he wasn't good yesterday. He slowed our play down, ran into blind alleys, his long passing was off, took too long on the ball and then of course that mistake that cost us the first goal. He never really impressed me. Overhyped from the beginning.

Apart from some rookie mistakes and considering he's got so little experience in the EPL I think that Periera did fairly well. His passing was quite good and at one point he gave a through ball that would have made Carrick proud. I don't think that the Brazilian has the positioning and the physicality to play in a DM role though. If we're going to play him in that deep role then we'll need to have loads of patience + someone who can provide us with plenty of movement and workrate
to cover his arse. However there's potential in the lad. He reminds me alot of Pirlo when he first started playing in a deep role.

About time we let this pipe dream that Pereira will be a decent player for United go. He's been largely underwhelming every time he's played.

He may develop into a decent player but it won't be at United, same deal as Januzaj for me.

The Cleverley comparisons are sensible.
Both are tidy with the ball and are decent short passers but I rate Cleverley higher, he was a first teamer in a midfield two in a team that walked the league, Pereira will do very well to achieve something similar.
Both aren’t United level.

He was terrible, and not just because of that one moment. I don’t think he’ll make it here. Always been sceptical. He lacks...something. Has all the skill in the world, yet somehow lacks the mental application to channel it into performances. Only my opinion of course.

Except he didn't. And counting incomplete passes as being dispossessed is a bit disingenuous. Other than some tweet which is blatantly wrong is there a source for this 14?

According to whoscored.com he had 1 unsuccessful touch and dispossesed 0 times. He completed 42/51 passes so someone just added those 9 misplaced passes to dispossessed, which is just nonsense.

It is rather unfortunate that our position doesn't allow Ole to give him a run of 4-5 games. It is easy to criticize him now after such poor performance.

It is not easy for unexperienced players to just get thrown into the team after a month. Not saying he will make it here but some of the comments are ridiculous.

This is true for every player though. It’s not easy establishing yourself at a club like United for exactly that reason.

Having two really tough FA Cup draws hasn’t helped either. Cup games against lower division teams are a great opportunity for young/fringe players to build some confidence and bed into the first team. Of course, unfortunately, Pereira was pretty terrible when he did get exactly that opportunity against Reading.

I do think it might be too soon to write him off, mind you. He’s the same age as Lindelof so don’t see why he couldn’t turn things round like Victor did. I guess the difference is how highly rated Lindelof was before we signed him. Pereira has looked a lot less like a potential Manchester United first teamer than Lindelof. At least that’s the impression I get from watching him/reading about his time in Spain.

Top of previous page.

Funny how you just repeat whatever you read that fits you the best. The person you are quoting is referring to his Whoscored rating and the funny thing is Whoscored is a statistics site that is nowhere near the 14 dispossessed you claim to be correct.

His rating is shattered due to the error which leads to the goal. That is how how Whoscored works. Scoring a goal is also a huge boost, which is why Pogba has a high rating.

I checked Whoscored during half time because of the banter on Pereira here and at half time Pereira was on a 6.5 which was higher than most other United players, including midfield mate Pogba.

 The feck are you on about?

Also, I couldn’t give a shit about whoscored ratings, hence I never mentioned them.

One of the worst performances I've ever seen from a midfielder at United. 2/10, only way it could've been 1/10 is if he managed to get himself red carded.

Never ever seen what the fuss was about this guy.
At least players like Maceda and Janjuz treated us to a couple of first team memories.
Some fans were thinking this guy and Mctomminy were the future! Jeez.

Andreas is so out of his depth at this level. He offers nothing but side ways passing and his dawdling on the ball was bound to bite him in the arse eventually.

Seeing as multiple posters have sand in their vaginas about me repeating that 14 times dispossessed "fake news" it's only fair that I post some actual stats. I found them here. Obviously, if anyone has alternative/better sources for match stats please share.

1 key pass (Pogba 3, Matic 1)
1 dribble (Pogba 0, Matic 2)
0 shots (Pogba 3, Matic 0)
0 free-kicks won (Pogba 2, Matic 1)
Dispossessed 0 times* (Pogba 3, Matic 2)
0 tackles (Pogba 2, Matic 0)
1 interception (Pogba 0, Matic 5)
0 Clearances (Pogba 1, Matic 1)

So if we ignore the dispossessed stat (because the lower that number is the better) and add up all the rest we come up with a total for Pereira of 3 measurable positive interventions while he was on the pitch (vs 11 for Pogba and 10 for Matic). Which is a very roundabout way of saying the stats confirm he was absolutely pants.

*Hmmm... Seems like more fake news. How the hell did we concede their first goal without him being dispossessed?!?

He misplaced 9 passes, had 1 unsuccessful dribble, had 1 loss of possesion (the goal), commited 2 fouls and had 1 unsuccessful touch.

I got all those stats from Whoscored. I assume that's where the figure of '14' came from.

It should be said that it's not much higher than Pogba or Matic, so I think it's a bit unfair to use it as a stick to beat the kid with.

Quietly unboarded his bandwagon weeks ago. Poor awareness and gets caught in possession doing nothing in particular almost like he had no plan of action. CM isn't a position for a player with no awareness. If he makes it here it may not be at CM or the first team for that matter

I think he has the ability, but not the awareness to become a starting midfielder for us. You have got to be aware of your surroundings if you plan to become a midfielder, you have to know your options before you even receive the ball.

Easier to have a picture of what’s going on around you when you’re on the wing. Which is, I think, where he played in Spain.

it worries me that he's getting games ahead of Fred

Pereira will find his opportunities more limited after this - Ole needs to show a ruthless side and that was an awful performance last night - he hasn't really shown the requisite quality

maybe time to cash in

He was poor, but I do think that people are going significantly overboard now. He's barely played this season so it's not exactly surprising that he was rusty. The question is - was it just him being rusty or was that his normal level? Most likely it's somewhere in between, with him being able to play quite a bit better than what he showed but looking increasingly likely that it might not be good enough for us. With his contract running out it's looking very unlikely he'll have a future with us, but it wouldn't surprise me if he goes on to play at a decent level.

He made 1 interception so thats not true.

Its not a lot but there have been plenty of games this season where our midfielders won the ball back 1 time themselves. Matic had performances like that and he was playing DM, while Andreas today was playing RCM further up.

He also made 2 fouls to break up play when he couldnt win the ball another way. Lindelof made 2 fouls as well

Overall he made 1 key pass but mostly his distribution was just to keep the ball moving, nothing complicated. He made 1 successful dribble as well

It certainly wasnt a good performance but nowhere near as bad as you just made out by ignoring what he actually did do. His passing stats are very close to Pogba's despite Pogba playing longer and Pogba also being tackled 3 times on top of it.
One of the all-time dumb posts. You know a player has had a crap game when someone is quoting their "foul" stats. What the hell does that even mean? "He could committed 2 fouls to break up play" Jesus. And then you compare his passing stats to Pogba. Are you serious? Do you think it might have something to do with Pogba trying difficult defense-splitting passes. Probably 90% of Periera's passes were to Young on the right. He was scared in possession and timid in defense. It was a shambles. I hope this performance finally shuts people's mouths. Stop putting so much emphasis on these stupid pre-season tours against cannon fodder MSL teams and European teams missing half of their stars.

Pogba had 2 key passes, not 3.
Other than that, why is getting a free kick a positive intervention? It can just as well mean a player holds on to the ball longer than needed or that a player runs with a ball more than an other.

What the story tells is that Pereira did not contribute much defensively. Which is not weird as he originally is an offensive midfielder and hardly has any game time in the PL. At the same time it is a bit worrying because looking at the pass maps for this game, Pereira was playing just a bit ahead of Matic so he should have been in the position to contribute something defensively but did not do very well.

On the ball, he did not do much less than Pogba. Pereira is more of a passing player and Pogba makes more runs and tries more long shots. Pogba also has the tendency to play more up front and to the left. Which is a bit annoying to me as most of his touches were in a position close to Rashford which limits both of them in their space. Besides the difference in quality, that is why pogba has less passes but is fouled more often and tries more shots.

As said, I am not trying to say Pereira played a good match, but certainly was not 'total pants'.

Ole needs to see what players do in this line up. Pogba goes very deep and to the left, which was a problem in games before as he got in the way of Martial then as well.

Mata got most of his touches in the center while he was supposed to play as a rw. Pogba should stay in the center more and we would benefit from a rw that actually plays at the sidelines and beats his man.

Amazing when you actually take 2 secs to look at stats you realise how easily mislead most are on here, half probably didn't watch the game. I thought Matic and Lindelof had good games, otherwise it was a 5/10 performance all round for the rest of the team and I didn't see much difference between Pereira's match and the likes of Lukaku, Mata, Pogba, Rashford, Shaw and the rest.

He made one mistake but let's not forget, he shouldn't be a DM because he's an offensive player. Issue wasn't Pereira last night, it was the diabolical decision to move Rashford to LW to accommodate Rom up top and Mata on the RW. Crippled us from the start.

Whoscored count it as an error. If you click on dispossessed then it gives figures for dispossessed, errors, fouls and offsides. In Pereira's case 1 error and 2 fouls. Pogba 3 dispossessed 1 foul 1 offside. Matic 2 dispossessed 1 foul.

Whoscored's system has numerous flaws in it. If a player flicks on a keeper's clearance, that's counted as a pass.

You started watching this season i take it?

Look no further than Ryan Giggs against Wigan back in 11/12. Abominable.

Anyway, ignoring this abominable post - as well as my own attempt to stir debate - it’s clear that Pereira blew his opportunity last night. We can talk about lack of game time and talent (which is there) for days, but he was given a great opportunity last night and will be disappointed with the outcome.

He won’t get many more if he plays like that again. Which is a shame because I think he can develop into a good midfielder for us.

Really poor game, looked well off the pace in general, silly for the goal, and offered very little.

This doesn't represent his ability as a player and I fully expect him to bounce back from this and play much better in the future.

Solskjaer actually believes in young players and won't throw him under the bus for a bad/nervy performance, thankfully.

It's weird, he looked really panicky yesterday for us, which is a contrast to how we played in Spain, where he was pretty adept at getting away from danger. I think the lack of playing time and eagerness to impress probably made him more nervous than he should be, but the fact remains that we still don't know where his best position is and I don't really think it's as a deep CM.

Yep, he seems to be a confidence player and he's not finding it here so far. I'd go as far as to say that none of his performances in the first team even come close to how he performed for the reserves or in Spain. As for his best position, I always expected him to replace Mata for us, very similar style and could play wide right for us, cutting inside and passing, and also has a decent cross in him. But I am baffled as to why Ole seems to insist on playing them both, and putting him centrally. Maybe he wants to see him grow there, i dunno. I'd to see him on the right with Lingard or Sanchez cutting inside some day. Fred was a better option last night but I guess he also wanted to accommodate Mata.

It’s like he gets stage fright everytime he starts for us. Other than the opening day of the season against Leicester, he has been very underwhelming in the games he has started since then.

Just not good enough and best for all parties to move him on this summer.

Why are you getting mad right now? Just because people thought or think Pereira was/is a decent talent?
