Typical. Redcafe player hype unraveled.

He may yet turn into a decent player, but he was a big part of nearly losing to Burnley. Possession lost so frequently. I also don't remember him winning the ball once.

Shameful that some rate him more than Herrera .

I swear if he wasn't from the academy he would receive x 10 times the stick. Some people here have overated him because we all like the romantic story of a academy player breaking through the team and developing like the class of 92 but lets stick to the facts. He had an ok season nothing special with Granada and people was asking for him to start. He then went to Valencia and couldn't earn a place and still some people wanted him to start before Matic, and then the few chances he gets this season he has been a massive dissapointment.

He played like an amateur against Reading 2 weeks ago and today may be one of the worst performances I have seen in some time. He was awful against a Burnley side that offers nothing besides physicallity, if he can't be up to the expectations in a home game against Burnley then how can we expect him to make the difference in the important games?

Some facts and statistic from todays game:

Recoveries Made vs Burnley:

9 – Jones
7 – Matic
7 – Shaw
5 – Lindelöf
5 – Pogba
4 – Young
2 – Rashford
2 – Mata
1 – Sánchez
0 – Lingard
0 – Lukaku
0 – Pereira

In addition of not recovering the ball 1 single time as a midfielder, he also lost the ball 14 times. According to Whoscored he was the lowest rated player on the pitch with 5.3

I seriously don't know how he could had a worst game than this. Obviously the inflection point is the lost ball that turned into the first goal for Burnley, but he had being attrocious before that as well.

He is on a terrible form and he is not that young anymore, he is already 23 years old. Compare him to other players of him generation like Alli, Arthur, De Jong, Rodri from atletico, Ndidi, Ndombele, Neves, Bentancur all of them are the same age or younger than Andreas and have proveen way more than him. If he was good enough he should had showed it by now. We are not talking about an 18-19 year old that is just breaking out into the team, he has been around for almost 4 seasons and hasnt been up to the challenge.

I know we are all about giving youth a chance but enough is enough, we should not waste more minutes in to him, it's clear he won't make it. Let's use those minutes in other players that might make it here.

Agree, enough is enough. People overrated him somehow because we felt we needed a good replacement for Matic & Herrera. It'd be hard to imagine those thinking the same way if we already have that person.

This lad has to be one of the most overrated United youngster I have ever seen in my life. Like seriously, our fans were treating him like the second coming of Ineista for some decent passes or some thing.

Chip him off for a relegation fodder in PL.

I was willing to give him a chance, but its pretty clear hes not cut out to play at this level. At 23 you should be making some waves and he still looks like an academy prospect. His short passing is pretty neat, but other than that he shows nothing that a PL midfielder should.

Saddens me to say, because I’ve been a huge advocate of Pereira. But at 23 I now can’t see a Utd player there. He didn’t get involved at all last night. He didn’t demand the ball. He jumped out of a couple of challenges. He is tidy on the ball and can pick a pass, but the bad out weighed the good last night. Can’t see him being here next season. Good luck to the lad. Had such high hopes before both loans. He’s still streets ahead of McT though

He's always good in pre season but he is struggling to make the step up to the PL. To be fair that tackle would be blown for a foul every time in Spain.
No getting around that, he fecked it up when he could have released the ball sooner.

Other thing which caught my eye was, he tried 1-2 long passes in the beginning, misplaced them and after that it was about the safest pass, Matic, Young or Pogba. All in all frustrating night for the lad, and to be sincere I think that sealed his career here.

First start in a long time and he looked pretty shaky.

It is far to early to give up on him yet, hope he gets more chances.

I really wanted him to succeed, feels a bit like Januzaj, clearly talented, but not good enough football brain.
Bet that he'll go to Monaco, Dortmund or another good'ish team, do really well there, and we'll all want him back.
That said, he's had enough chances and it's time to let him go.

Maybe I’ve not been clued in but was he regarded well during his loan spells in Spain? Because if not (or even just ‘meh’), I don’t know what he’d be bringing to the table with us.

Seems harsh but the morning after, it really seems the performance issues for most of the match came down to him. Hard to carry a lad who’s not up to the standard in any PL game.

Hope we don’t see him in the line up before the end of the season.

I was a huge advocate too but it seems his race is run here. I don't see him signing a new contract. I don't think it would be the right career move for the player himself.

Some of the kneejerk here is unbelievable... He made one misstake after not playing much at all. I thought we were Manchester United which gave youngsters the chance and helped develop them? Let the coaches work with him this season and then give the verdict on him, don't base it off one game. With that mentality Lindelöf would have been sold after the Brighton game last year, Lindgard sold years ago, Pogba sold during the summer etc. Just relax and be happy that atleast we try to play the "smaller" teams and don't park the bus like under Mou.

Not even worthy of lacing Herreras boots! I did want it to work out for the lad but when he has played what has he actually brought to the table, no better than mctominay

I just think his minutes should be given to Gomes. Pereira is 23 and out of contract in the summer. Pereira is not hesitant to leave in order to further his career. He badly wants to play for Brazil so he'll go wherever he's guaranteed minutes. So I don't think you're wrong in wanting a youth player to be shown patience. However, I think at this point it makes more sense to give Gomes a chance. He's only 18 so we can be more patient for him to develop and he's more talented than Pereira.

The mistake just made it worse. He was pretty pointless even without that and it’s what most people are disappointed with. First half he was noticeably getting mugged off regularly by his opposite man/men.

Knees will be knees. To be honest I both thought he had a fairly bad game yesterday even aside from the gaffe. As has been pointed out - couldn’t win the ball, many ball losses, often failed to make himself available, and sold himself badly several times when pressing. That’s bread and butter at central midfield. Neither did he redeem himself particularly with his strengths.

On the positive side, though he atm is vastly inferior to Herrera, you did see his qualities at times. Both his ball control, short passing, long passing and ability to create space for himself is better than Herrera’s. Herrerra had immensely more game time centrally than Perira at 23, and even more so now. He has also had worse games for United than this. The potential is still there if he can put in the effoet and get the chances.

He does put in the effort, a question mark though is his confidence. If he shies away, he’ll never learn fast enough. The good thing to take for him from yesterday, is that he reacted well to a mistake which must have felt like he blew his best and last chance here. He didn’t give up, but rather stepped up, and played with more intent and intensity. I don’t think Solskjær woll give up on him based on this performance (or the few others he’s had for us. I do doubt he’ll be able to make it here with the competition though.

I will try to be constructive about the guy. The mistake is something he will have to live with and hopefully he will grow from it. He is definetly a lightweight and playing him against a team like Burnely was probably a bad decision from Ole. Technically he is very good but he needs to hit the gym asap. Or the likes of Valencia/Sevilla are going to be his max

It's not really a "knee jerk" to say hes not good enough. He hasn't been up to much in any game this season, and he wasn't particularly great at Valencia. He's not really a youngster anymore. He's 23 and he hasn't really shown anything that he excels at.

No one was ever crying for Scott McTominay to get more chances, or calling it a kneejerk when he gets criticised. Why is it different for Pereira?

Which in itself isn't a bad thing tbh. Those are decentish clubs depending on the season

How the wheel has turned ! People asking for fellaini to be kept and get rid of pereira.
Fellaini plays next game gets sent off - get rid of fellaini

Pereira plays next and scores - pereira is going to be a great player.

Classic caf.

Even ignoring his mistake, honestly I don't see anything special. Technical ability is just about okay, range of passing is quite limited and he has no physical presence. At 23 he should have been showing much more if he was going to make it work at united. I have a feeling we are just delaying the inevitable.

Absolutely true. McTominay has shown more for me than Perreira. Chelsea at home last season, for example. You could see what he could bring. I've no idea what the point of Andreas is.

Agreed.

He did not lose the ball more often than others really, apart from his error ofcourse. If you look at the stats, his passing accuracy was in the same region as his partner Pogba, 82 vs 84. He send 51 passes in his 64 minutes, Pogba made 56 in 95 minutes. He did not win anything in the air, but did have a interception. Pogba got dispossed 3 times, Pereira once. Pereira got 61 touches of the bal in 64 minutes, Pogba 75 in 95 minutes. You can hardly say he was not making himself available when superstar Pogba was even more invisable.

Mind you, I am not saying Pereira did wel, but he did ok in a game in which we were struggling offensively. Rashford was very sloppy and Pogba did not do much better in the first half. It's a bit of a shame, because Pereira had a nice pass and interception just before his error. I was just thinking he was stepping up and then that happened.

I can agree that he did not show enough (again) to warrant a place in next years squad. He should be working very hard to show something better in the next months if he want to stay.

On the other hand, I believe many people on here are very harsh on him. People are expecting a player without much playing time to get a chance and totally command the game. The comments at half time were very much pointed to getting Pereira off when he did just as good/bad as the rest of the squad. Seems like a bit of an easy scapegoat in games that we struggle instread of being critical of the players that should carry United against mediocre opponents like Burnley. They should provide an inviroment in which new/young players can ease in the team. Realisticly many new players struggle at United because the players around them do the same. It's so much easier when the base of the squad is solid and I do not think we are far enough at this time. I hope we will be soon, otherwise other talents like Chong, Gomes, Garner and Greenwood will struggle as well.

He was dispossessed 14 fecking times in the 63 minutes he was on the pitch. That’s shocking.

Simply not good enough to play for Man Utd. Really need some improvement in midfield because once Herrera, Matic and Pogba are missing we are in trouble.

This x100. I'm not sure Gomes would add much to the steel of the team last night but i very much doubt he would have been caught in possession 14 times

Right now Perriera is just in the way of the youngsters who *are* showing promise.

Agreed. He will be very lucky to get another chance, especially if Ole gets the job permanently.

He is a technically gifted player but he looks like he can't handle the pace of the PL. At 23 that's worrying.

The pace of the game really did trouble him. He seemed to want an age on the ball every time, just to control and pass it off to the side. It felt like like every pass was a second later than usual, because he shifts his whole body around the ball, just to side foot it.

I might be completely wrong if someone pulls up a video of it, but that’s how it felt.

I’m glad someone pulled that poster up on that.

Quite amazing he managed to come out for the second half really. Ole must have thought he couldn’t get any worse.

As soon as I seen his name on the team sheet I worry. He’s an absolutely awful player. Shouldn’t of made so many changes last night ole. First mistake.

Expected to see a lot of flack in here for the lad, but damn, some of you have really gone in.

He looked devoid of confidence to me, always looking for help from Matic and not really stamping any sort of authority on the game. Doesn't mean he's a terrible player, though.

His mediocre performance was heightened by the mistake for the goal, but you also have to give credit to Burnley who pressed very well most of the night.

I'd prefer to see him higher up the pitch like when he played for the youth teams. But the path to that position is blocked immensely by Pogba of course.

Mctominay has featured in 33 games, 1700 minutes in the last 18 months for us since debut in may in the 16/17 season. Pereira has featured 23 times for us, with a total of 850 minutes spread out since the 14/15 season. So It’s hardly strange that McTominay has left more of an impression on fans considering he’s actually been an active part of the team in recent times compared to Pereira who’s, at best, always been a peripheral figure here.

There’s no way you can tell me McTominay is the bigger talent. He’s got a strong mentality and good practical ability but as a footballer Pereira has far more ability.
