Why's he playing wide? He's a CM isn't he?
Seems like he heavily favours the right side of the CM.
Not impressed.
Portugal seem to be playing a fluid 4-1-3-2 type of formation. Danilo as the DM, Moutinho centrally and Gomes and Joao Mario keep floating around either side. Seems like a hybrid between a right sided CM and a winger.

He's playing well but it's Iceland so I'm not getting excited yet.
He seems too tall to be a tricky, quick winger or ACM
He is definately tricky, would be the next best dribbler after Martial if we signed him, but we should play him centrally, in the Oscar role
Joao Mario is looking special though, would much rather pay the £40 million towards him
"Special"? No idea how you could call him special after that half. He wasn't bad, looked tidy in the link up play, but it was a very standard performance.

Joao Mario has looked the worst in the Portugal midfield for me.
Iv never seen him play before, Special probably wasn't the correct term, but I can now see what is all the hype about. Made some great crosses and went on a few runs, I thought he was Quaresma for the first 15 mins. Where as bar the flick and assist Gomes hasn't really done much.
Yes, very underwhelmed by this Joao Mario.
I disagree, Gomes had one particularly nice drive through the midfield, his dribbling and touch looked good, and he got on the ball very often with good movement. Neither set the world alight, but Gomes has looked a threat, while I'd say Mario has been 'just' average.
His position is impressive!! Always in the pockets.

Very impressed with him so far, so comfortable on the ball and always choosing the right option. Joao Maria doesn't look great so far, but from what Ive seen inthis game Id take Andre Gomes and Nani (get him before Inter sign him)

I've been quite impressed by him, yeah, he ain't pulling up any trees but I've kept me minces on him and he's always showing, always available, seems to be moving and positive all the time and rarely put a foot wrong and as for those who are comparing him to Mata, I know feck all about football but really?
Dont see the point in us going for him, neat and tidy, but i am not impressed today. Pjanic was the one for us

He is very tidy and does the right things whenever on the ball, however i am a bit worried about the lack of risk in his passing, it is pretty much always the safer option. For that price we should have someone who can decide on the outcome of games, those who watch him often could advise as it might also be only today
