So you changed from Kovacic being your No1 to this fella.
Kovacic also has exceptional tools to be fair, and I think with the right guidance and stability, could also become a superstar. I certainly wouldn't be upset if we signed him either. I just think Gomes will see Mourinho as a real mentor being a compatriot and all, and will blossom here.

On par with Modric, Vidal, Kroos, Iniesta et alI don't see it at all with Kovacic. He isn't intelligent enough either to make best use of what talent he does have.
I just like those tall players with great technique, he has different skillset to players we follow and can be one of those footballers who always has a trick in their pocket. On the other hand there are "boring" verratti or pjanic who are just fantastic passers. Of course they cant be compared but I think we lack that bit of brilliance from a single player, rooney had it but lost it, Martial is great but still raw and so far profiled himself as more or less conventional winger.. I don't know I don't see a player in our team who would feel unconventional. In Gomes I see a bit of Zidane, who was truly exceptional player with unique skillset, Gomes' inconsistency is a big question mark though but feck it send money for him and take him to OT, Mourinho could transform him into a beast of a palyer..

All this talk of Zidane, reminded me of a video I watched last year.

From the limited amount I've seen of him, he does look talented. I think we're missing someone with that beautiful balance and the ability to drift past players. Somebody who can draw players to him and then spin away and unlock a defence. I'd be in favour of that personally. I'm not sure about the Zidane comparisons mind you although he's got a couple his tricks. If anything, I see a lot of similarities between Gomes and Michael Laudrup. We obviously can't buy Laudrup in this window (well, we could if we had a DeLorien but I digress......) but he's well worth a look at on YouTube just to remember how good he was....

I've only seen him once against England but the Zidane comparison is preposterous. There's only one Zidane ever. Best one touch footballer I've seen, best combination of strength, stamina and intelligence. Watching him play for Juventus every week was a revelation for me. I'd never seen footy played in quite that style before.

It was hilarious really. At no point did I read anyone comparing him with Zidane yet everyone jumped on him for it.I think Fernando Redondo is a slightly more realistic full muppet mode way too early projection.
He's a very good midfielder, but if he does well at the Euro's, there's talk that Barca will take him, so we may have left it too late.
