I don’t think we really operate with a specific budget. We are more likely constrained by cash on hand than anything else.

Yeah it's very lazy basic reporting to just throw out a summer budget!

I don't care much for FFP either tbh, but at least reporting on that figure is more of an interesting read...financially so far 2 buys at 50 mill spread over 5 years is about 20 mill off the FFP budget this year (in my limited knowledge on the topic) then you have previous years to think about of course.

So it's always more about how the deals are structured and how much needs paying when...more so that a made up summer transfer kitty.

i wonder when did he develop his distribution and footwork? I remember he wasn't playing like that when we played Ajax in 2017 europa final

Think this signing if it goes ahead will have a Casemiro like effect on how we play. For what he's worth to us the fee looks reasonable to me.

It's United, so I won't get excited until I see him holding the shirt.

In before the mistakes he'll make, which are normal for a goalkeeper of his ilk and something we've seen Alisson and Ederson do, get completely blown out of proportion.

Maybe you forgot how shit he was, he thought ball was a bomb and was kicking towards row z in the stands as soon as he got it.

AWB has awkward style but he is much better on the ball than Darmian, it's not even close. He is better than Darmian at everything except heading the ball.
I might be clouded by the fact that AWB is still playing for us so his lack of balling abilities are still fresh in my memories and I might be forgetting Damian's due to not having watched him in years. Either way I'd like us to not compromise on the philosophy this time by trying to accommodate less than adequate players for Ten Hag's style and just stick to the script. I'd take Dalot less than ideal defending if it means the entire back five is filled with players who will be conductive to Ten Hag's ideal playing style.

A back five of Onana, Dalot, Varane, Martinez and Shaw look like one that'll be plenty comfortable playing Ten Hag's ball.

Yep, absolutely will happen. Onana doesn't strike me as the type to give a shite about media pressure though.

This will drag on for longer than expected if true.

He's saying that the figures they've reported aren't as inflated as the Italian media are reporting, not that it's causing the deal to stall.

Has Howard Nurse tweeted ‘Onana then’ yet? I find that a lot more reliable from the BBC side than Simon Stone sitting on the fence with stories :p

Yeah very depressing hearing him say that, hoping we are saying that to keep prices down
None of the journalists have any idea what our budget is they never do. My guess we have made funds available to get at least our three key positions sorted before relying on sales .

Yeah no doubt some CB cover and backup DM (younger/experienced) is fully dependent on selling Maguire and one of Fred/McTominay

Aye I think Ten Hag has insisted we get Mount, Onana and Hojlund. After that there won't be anyone else brought in without significant sales

I think he always had it in him. He was part of La Masia, where the goalkeeper has to play a certain way. I'm sure his skills improved even more when he realized that he can do this on the biggest stage, under immense pressure, in the most important game Inter played in the last 10 years. I was impressed, to be honest. Maybe seeing De Gea lump it forward all the time has lowered my expectations in regard to what a goalkeeper should do, but still. That was immense from him. I remember a low pass from his box directly to Lukaku, which left me in awe.

Agreed Once we get these three in that would already be decent window and with few sales we could augment the team further , I am quite hopeful that we would see some decent money raised through sales this time around at least 70-80 m minimum .

That would help keep us competitive but that’s not going to make much impact for a title challenge.

We're not going to realistically challenge for the title without a landmark CF signing as well as more depth additions. But that isn't happening unless we're sold and/or we make considerable gains from player sales. Both of these are looking unlikely at the moment.

The signings we look to be making though seem to be sensible and warrant enough excitement for us to expect to improve on last season though. I'd expect us to be a firm top 4 team yet again but just lacking in the quality to realistically pip City. But again I don't think anyone is until Pep fecks off.

All bets are off because the other teams are strengthening as well. We could be fighting for 2nd or 7th place. Tough to swallow but that‘s our reality.

Man city, Liverpool and Arsenal are definitely serious competition. I'll be disappointed if we finish behind Chelsea, Newcastle, and Tottenham. We're very much ahead of those sides in term of the level of our squad.
