I think there will be a lot of people here realising the grass isn’t always greener - Onana is fantastic with his feet but he isn’t a great shot stopper and even the stuff he does save goes back in the danger area, which in the PL will mean instant punishment. One of the areas De Gea was truly top tier was pushing the ball away from oncoming opposition players.

He regularly parries the ball back into the danger area.

That wasn't on ETH. Onana wanted to go somewhere he was going to be #1 and in CL. Plus the money sucking would have never sanctioned the contract it would have took to sign him with De Blunder and Henderson's wages. I get Henderson got loaned out but i'm pretty sure he hadn't gone on loan before Onana signed with Inter
Also, Onana had an agreement with Inter (I suppose verbally) well before Ten Hag was in discussions with United. It's probably on the impossible side of difficult to sign someone on a free that has already committed to another club.

Everything is such a slog with this club. How about decide if you are interested internally before you let Inter know

I read that as "United AREN'T interested" and got so angry I almost turned to my dog and called Ten Hag a cnut.

It's so weird how this is being entirely driven from the Italian media and inter, and almost nothing from our side...our guys still keep banging on about de Gea. Just a laughably weird situation.

"Hi Inter, just letting you know that we're about to have a meeting to decide if we're interested." Would probably be our response.

How long do we leave it before we tell a club we want their player, and actually making an offer? And why?

Inter need money and Onana was a free signing for them. Hopefully we get this done early next week.

By the time we move all our money around, get a Loan for X and decide if we still need to pay De Gea’s wages. Might be a good 4 weeks.

We still need to prepare a bid
Not a chance we are anywhere near that stage yet. We’ve only just registered interest and are now starting the monitoring situation stage followed by would like to be kept informed of any developments stage.

Y'all do realize that buying/selling players is like any other business transaction in other industries?

It's pretty normal for companies to be in touch to talk about details and prepare eachother that they likely will make an offer before they send off the official offer?

Checking details like what they value the player at and so on, allowing the potentially selling club to start thinking about what they think about selling the player, are they open to it, if so what other options do they have to replace and so on.

It's just very unusual for a club to comment in the press that they were contacted about a player.

There are so many things wrong with the club but whining for something so normal in the transfer process is so weird.

Blame the Glazers for that. It's been well reported that they take ages to sign off on anything, and can be hard to reach across the pond.

Can’t we just do these offers / negotiations in person and get it done, rather than preparing an offer, sending an offer, waiting for them to reject it, the club being relaxed about the situation for a few days, preparing another offer, waiting again, etc.

Because people (myself included) have no basic knowledge of a transfer business is being conducted.
But if it’s anything like a regular business transaction, it’s no surprise that it takes time
