Our Player of the Match tonight, he was the only player worth any praise and single handedly prevented it from being a humiliation.
You really love him huh?! He was fine...great double save but didn't really have much else to do.

I thought he did pretty much everything right. It's not his fault the way he has zero protection in front of him, game after game. That double save was brilliant.

Another solid performance from a pure goalkeeping perspective, distribution was poor.

Nothing to see here. His distribution is going to be indifferent when you having to be a quarterback literally having to drop it on someones foot....

Good game from him again only problem is our lack of ball playing and ball receiving outfield players.

Was good today. Been for some time now. Guys hands must be burning like hell after every one of our games.

Didn’t think after the first few weeks of the season this guy would be the least of our worries come 30 odd games in.

Best player out of the starters and one of our best players this season, despite having multiple errors and a bad start. He's also done well a lot and kept us in games

He looks more safe and secure than de Gea ever did throughout the entire game, IMO.

At his best, de Gea would at least give away two bad passes to opponent and cause a panic in defence. He hasn't reached that de Gea's level of shot stopping, he probably never will, but he looks more than good after those shaky first few months.

Onana performed admirably. Wasn’t tested, but took care of everything he was asked to take care of.

I'm not sure ddg still has a fanclub. But there's absolutely no world in which he was a motm
The poster you responded to said he was 'our' MoTM, which he almost certainly was (currently has 65% of the votes in the post-game thread). Varane was good while he was on the pitch, but played less than half the match. Mainoo was good in the first half, not so much the second. And that's about it.

Does anyone have access to his stats from yesterday?

I am interested in how many times he hoofed the ball upfield and how often it went to one of our players and how often it went to a Brentford player.

Been excellent the last month or two, but because we are a mess it has gone under the radar. He is one of the few positives going into next season.

He should save that first goal. Not the first one of that calibre either. Struggles with low shots.
Ssshhh you’ll be told there’s nothing he could do about it, along with the heap of goals he’s let in where he dived too late or got a weak hand on the ball.

He’s a disaster but he doesn’t seem as bad because we have about five priority positions to fill before him. Just shows how shite we are.

Yeah agree. Thought he was good but should've saved that one. Then others were penalties and a deflection (though even the first one came after deflection) so can't blame him on those.

First one was weak keeping, others weren’t on him. Can’t believe we’ve come away with a loss from that.

If I was a striker, I’d be going low against him every time. He can’t get down, every questionable goal is along the ground and his best saves are waist height or above.

Some goalkeeping nerd must have stats for expected goals conceded when then ball is 0.5 meters off the floor or less.

It feels like half the goals scored against him this season have been deflections but it isn't an excuse not to have saved some of them.

Going through Casemiro (?) his legs and a deflection for the first goal. I dont think that save for the first goal is that easy to make?

You'd think with all the practice he's getting he'd be getting better. :wenger:

It literally went between his body and his hands. Yet another where he gets his hand to it but fails to save it. He jumps up before he goes down. His technique is all wrong there.

The stretching to absolve him of blame is nothing if not predictable. It shows the lower standards people have come to expect when he makes a horlicks of a simple bread and butter save and people rush to come up with reasons it's not his fault.

I've said it from the start, time and time again, it's his technique. It's poor and it's leading to goals like this over and over again. Even on the saves he makes (including last night) it's an absolute lottery where to ball goes after he saves it, he nearly punched a free kick in to the roof of the net last night and another when he slapped it down in to the 6 yard box needing a defender to clear.

I really, really hope we act decisively and get rid of this liability ASAP, particularly when the manager that lumbered us with him hopefully moves on.

United should have bought Diogo Costa and still should, easily the best young GK in the world and a huge upgrade on Onana.

I thought he did really well yesterday. Very promising, I now feel assured when he's in goal. That's a huge compliment after his horror start.

Yup, he's awkward as feck.

Same with rebounds and how it has a tendency to end up in the most dangerous zones because he can't hold on to the ball. Better off by not trying to hold it and just pushing it wide away from danger.

Miles away from playing to his strengths

He is not a top goalkeeper and he will never be. We need someone better if we are going to compete for trophies (which seems too far away now).

As is the pile on.

He's had a really good couple of months and it was fairly quiet in here, lets in one saveable shot and all of sudden he is back to being shit again.

I agree about his technique, I've posted about it before, but he's still a good keeper who's been playing well lately, distribution hasn't been great, but his short game is better than his long game, the problem at the minute is for ball progression out of the defensive third the players just aren't there for his short game to be utilised to it's potential.

I'm still not convinced about this guy.

He's kind of average at everything. Not a top keeper but not the worst either I suppose, apart from the time he put us out of the CL. It will take me a long time to forget that, sorry.

Makes it a bit more difficult but it still looked like he should've done better there.
Usual overreaction going in in here though.
