Anderson Vs Lucas

And it took you this long to come to that conclusion?

Ouch, the kiss of death. Dumpling agreeing with your argument.

Some people are getting thir knickers in a twist for the sake of it here. I would have thought it's fairly obvious.

England is a good example. For years, England have struggled to bring through players like Giggs and Scholes. But water carrying midfielders are two a penny, we've almost got a glut of them.

Lucas > Anderson at this moment for time and i don't think theres even an argument for that. Reckon Ando will improve leaps and bounds this season though, he knows its time to step up.

Bollox there's no argument, Ando has played his part in winning a good few trophies, Lucas has gone from complete dogshit to a "handy" player, nothing more!

The over-rating of Lucas in this thread is fecking insane, he wouldn't get into our first choice midfield, nor Chelsea's, nor City's, nor Arsenal's, nor Spuds.

Just like Benitez did a better job than Mancini at Inter.

City must be salivating at the thought of being number three in Benitez's hat-trick of ruining clubs.

Or maybe the owners have the intelligence to look at Benitez's managerial career as a whole, rather than just the last 18 months, to form an opinion, that given unlimited funds, he's a better bet than the joker they currently have at the club.

Shit argument good only for people who haven't watched players play or can not understand what they are seeing when they do.

Have I missed something?

Has anyone other than a couple of Liverpool fans on here even suggested
that Man City would have any interest in Benitez as manager?

This.
Strange really how our own fans overrate that guy.

When was the last time Anderson got a game for Brazil? Lucas is the vice-captain.

And he would get a game for spurs (ahead of all their dross besides Modric), Arsenal (ahead of Song), Chelsea (ahead of Mikel). City maybe not, depending on how many central midfielders they play. And yes, he'd play ahead of Anderson for your lot.

Perhaps explains why Brazil were so poor at the Copa America.

The 2nd part again just shows how crazily overrated Lucas is by Liverpool fans. I don't think its a coincidence that when Liverpool were a decent top 4 team Lucas looked like what he is - a hardworking but ultimately fairly limited player. As Liverpool have declined over the last 2 years suddenly a hardworking but limited player has become a star turn for them.

Whereas a couple of seasons back they'd have bitten our hand off for a swap.

Football fans, eh?

2 years ago Lucas was competing with Gerrard, Alonso, & Mascherano, for a central midfield spot. I think we'd have been underwhelmed at the very least, at the prospect of Anderson replacing Lucas......We'd be totally devastated at that prospect now.

Fecking Liverpool fans. Two years ago Lucas was absolute dog-shite and now this? Mental.

I'm one of the very few people who saw the potential in the kid and spoke up for him when nobody (including our resident LFC fans) had a good word to say about him but this is ridiculous.

The caps for Brazil mean nothing. He's an effective, yet limited defensive midfielder who has almost no competition for his role in the team. Anderson's trying to get a game ahead some of the most talented creative midfielders on the planet.

I'm gonna take the tinted specs for a sec and point out that Lucas was better than Anderson last season (albeit an injured one)

Lucas has played regularly for the last few seasons and has got much more playing time than Anderson

This is a big season for Ando and if he can stay fit, play well consistently then he will be the better player I think

You have to accept though that Lucas was the better player last season

When you see how much Liverpool fans worship a negative manager like Benitez, you kind of understand why they hold water-carriers in such esteem.

And Djimi Traore has won the Champions League.

Shit argument good only for people who haven't watched players play or can not understand what they are seeing when they do.

Traore made a few cameo appearances in a cup run of about 7 games.

Anderson played over 38 games in each of his first two seasons, where United won the league and CL double, and then another league title.

There is a big difference.

Why would they come to that conclusion?

Is it because of how Rafa did a better job at Inter than Mancini?

If they have any intelligence, they wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

he was more or less a regular that season. Played 10 games in europe, 42 over the season.

More regular for sure than Anderson in those two seasons.

None of which change the fact that it is a shit argument for either player.

Yea, but the other 32 games don't matter unless you're trying to claim Liverpool were great in the league that year, and he would have therefore played his part, having played all those games. Actually he played his part in you being shite.

Anderson played regularly (38 games each) in two very successful seasons. Djimi was part of a successful team for about 10 games.

Don't you 'fecking liverpool fans' me, Pogue. I will chew through you like a hungry fat kid goes through candy floss. Like Excalibur through the stone. like Unicron through Lithone.

Song is talented, but far too erratic for my liking.

Lucas is more than just a handy water carrier. He periodically bosses top opposition midfields and under Kenny he is showing that he has far more ability on the ball to be saddled with the same tag as the likes of mascherano, as defensive midfielders who do little besides defending.

He's the definition of the water carrier. Delusion to say otherwise.

He puts in high energy performances against top midfields at Anfield and gets credit for it.

Found wanting on many other occasions when Liverpool lack ideas or get overrun, which has happened a lot in the last two seasons.

Yes, and you don't give Anderson excessive credit for high energy performances against Arsenal, before he gets tired and then subbed.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with giving credit to Lucas for those performances.

Just as Anderson deserves credit for dominating midfield against Arsenal. At 4-0 up aggregate, no harm bringing him off for a well earned rest either.

Robbie Keane to City! Get in!

Anderson is a far more talented player than Lucas.

Lucas had a better season last time around.

Lucas is a simple footballer, who most Liverpool fans wanted shot of 12 months ago.

Fecking Liverpool fans. Two years ago Lucas was absolute dog-shite and now this? Mental.

To be fair, this is almost exactly the same kind of thing we were hearing about Fletcher...it's probably just a cause of seeing them excel in the big games, people get carried away.

Yeah sure you will you wannabe internet hardman.

Careful I heard he did this to Jedward

Lucas is the better player for the moment.

I can't see how that is in debate...

Lucas is doing better at the moment. He has found a role for his club team and performs consistently. He is a starter for Brazil. Anderson is younger and more talented and can still surpass Lucas.

And I agree with Pete that our 3 Brazilians are overrated on the caf. None of them made the squad for Copa America and they all about potential at this stage.

I refer you all to my earlier question:

Ok, who would take Lucas for Anderson right now... show of hands...

Are you suggesting that Lucas is better than Mascherano?

I wouldn't take Lucas over Anderson right now. I love Anderson, since he plays for my club, I hope he can fulfill his potential.

But Lucas was great last season.

He was good. But in a team that spent most of the first half the season in the bottom 10 and finished 6th, he was not 'great'.

Fair enough mate, just telling it how I see it... I actually have one that rates Anderson better than Lucas, although he'd never directly say it... or maybe he would. Opinions eh?

Nowt wrong with what you've said mate.

I struggled to see it at times. That being said those I know who watch him every week have been impressed with his development over the last 18 months or so.

Anderson has bundles of talent and ability...but, for whatever reason, hasn't quite managed to cement his place in our first team. I think he has the potential to go on and be a huge player for us, but as of this moment you'd have to say Lucas is more important to Liverpool than Anderson to us.
