Anderson Vs Lucas

While Lucas has far from convinced me yet, anyone who can hand on heart say they think Anderson is better based on anything they have actually seen is either lying or wearing the rosiest of rose tinted glasses.

I have seen absolutely nothing from either in the PL to suggest they are anything special but at international level Lucas has the edge on recent performances.

If you're all basing your opinions on the so called game where he had Gerrard in his pocket then fair enough. It'll give an unrealistic view of things but at least you're basing it on something you think you've seen.

To show this isn't a "he's a United player so obviosuly I'm goign to say he's not very good" post, I'll comment on Lucas.

For £8m and captain of the Brazil U21's I expected a lot more. I am not writing him off as he is still young but he still has it all to prove in my eyes. For most players you can tell what there strengths are and hope they make up for the weaknesses ie. he is tricky as fcuk but doesnt' track back or he's a smashing defender but needs to work on his forward play. With Lucas I havent' worked out his "area of expertise". Is he a box to box midfielder? Is he a midfield enforcer? Is he a playmaker? I havent' got it. And you know what? I could say exactly the same thing about Anderson.

Atm I think Lucas is ahead of Anderson ,specially when it comes to playing for their country.

Which Lucas games have you seen. The Havant & Waterlooville one where he scored a nice goal?

He's got a better shot than Anderson, but that's about it.

It can't get more obvious than what I posted :wenger::rolleyes: ,read my post first instead of flamming me

I dont rate Lucas very highly.
Anderson is better, but is highly over rated, nothing special but better than Lucas.

Define "nothing special"

Because he's knocking on the door of a first-team place in the current league and European champions. At 20 years old. I would say that's fairly special.

Has a tendancy to drift out of games from what I've seen.
I dont watch as many Man Utd games as you lot, so I may not be seeing the full range of his talents.
Could be that you lot haven't really got going this season.

There's a fine line between "knocking on the door" and "not good enough for the first team" though.

What are his strengths?

No shit Sherlock!

Or maybe you have got going but Liverpool and Chelsea have also got going.

I was speaking to a United supporting friend of mine last night and he has concerns over Quieroz (spelling??) leaving as it didn't work out too well when he left teh first time.

If you're good enough, you're old enough.

Obviously.

Listen, I've said it already. It's not an anti-United thing. I have yet to see what you can all see but I obviously watch less United games than you do. He may turn out to be as good as some of you are saying he already is but in my opinion, on current form he is over-rated.

This is moot when you're discussing the difference between "knocking on the door" and "not good enough for the first team".

Obviously.

He is definitely over-rated on this forum, I agree. But this doesn't mean he is "nothing special". Nor does it mean he doesn't have the potential to become a really top-class footballer.

at a novel guess, i'd suggest you Mancs back Anderson, Liverpool fans will back Lucas, and in 10 pages time we'll be talking about who is the better, Torres or Tevez, how many fans you have in Asia.

i havent seen that much of Anderson. Lucas looks quality from what i have seen of him, very solid on the ball, always seems to create space for himself, and is a good passer. but its far to early to tell

So to the matter at hand then.

It's a good thing then that he is good enough to play first team football for the arguable best team in the world.

Not bad for an over-rated player...:D

Completely different definition needed for:

(a) able to get into United's team

(b) able to get into Liverpool's team

Both good players. Anderson has greater potential but they are different types of midfielders.

I think when Anderson progresses he'll be a real force. Driving his team on with runs and energy. Lucas is a more casual player, he'll be nitting it together in the midfield with his passing game. Possibly more disaplined and more of a retainer than Anderson.

Anderson for me can go onto to be a world class central midfielder. I probably havent seen enough of lucas to really pass judgement but i've been impressed enough with what i've seen of him. Looks a prospect.

But this doesn't mean he is "nothing special". Nor does it mean he doesn't have the potential to become a really top-class footballer.

I didn't use that phrase and I didn't argue that he doesn't have potential. Lucas & Babel have "the potential" but they are yet to fulfil it, just like Anderson in my opinion.

There's not really much to argue. You agree with me that he is overrated on this forum.

How is this even up for debate? Andershow is by far the better player. Add goals to his game and he'll be a complete midfielder. So fecking start scoring soon!

Lucas has disappointed a little, but I think he's much more suited to an out and out attacking role, late runs into the box kind of thing; a bit like a good version of Tim Gayhill. His 1st team oppurtunities have been limited this season as Rafa has largely stuck with the same team for the league, due to us winning some games (wahey). I'm confident he'll develop into a well rounded midfielder for the English game at his current rate, but not the future star of the Brazilian midfield I was hoping for.

Anderson surprised me with his resilience and ruggedness (two good words beginning with 'r'), but seems to have stumbled a little since a positive start from what I've seen, would you say that was fair? Definitely looks a confident lad with bundles of pace and energy. Lacks a bit of intelligence sometimes, being only 20 and that. Oh and he can't shoot for a shit. Fancy that, a Brazilian attacking midfielder that's got a worse shot than Djimi Traore.

he's got a fecking long way to go to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Cahill. let alone develop into a 'good version of...'

... oh silly me, that must be why he plays heaps and scores many crucial goals from midfield.

what an amateur mistake on my part.

Same with Lampard.

Goals win games though... Plus, he's Australian and probably the best player we've ever had, and as such, Spammy's being racist.

I've not seen a good game from Lucas, I'm still not sure if he's a holding player or one that gets into the box.

Anderson is a better play than Lucas at this moment in time. Surely that much is obvious. Even to that MnM poster.

Excuse me? It's Mr M to you.
