Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

It's not just that. Bilbao have a basque only policy: where do they get a proper replacement for Herrera now, even with the cash? It's a massive problem for them.
It's not that massive, they can get players from Zaragoza(like Herrera), Osasuna, they have a few youths ready for the next step, Benat could have a bigger role, and apparently are looking at Atletico's Raul Garcia.

How can you blame Woodward for them rejecting a generous offer?

Oh and how can they reject a bid if it matches his release clause?

Isn't this what happened with Martinez, they rejected the bid so it meant Bayern had to go through the league and pay the tax?

Is it possible that they're just trying to say they made everything they can to keep him before we enforce the clause ?

Is it possibility that this is old bid and we already moved forward to pay the buyout clause to Spanish league.

Wait, so is all this shit about Carrington fake? Surely he wouldn't be able to come here without Bilbao's permission?

It was obviously worth a shot to try and get out of paying the tax. I would have been amazed if we didn't try to offer them a some of cash to escape the tax. Not worried at all by this, and there is noway he would be in Manchester if this weren't going through. Actually, maybe he isn't in Manchester at all.

No. It's just Bilbao. Either trying to imply they're doing everything to keep him. Making us pay tax and forcing us to activate his release cause. Or stalling to get more money on 1st July.

This isnt even our fault, its them...they hold their players hostage...hope he is very upset and just buys himself out, we will sort him out for it

That's been obvious for a while now. Twatter is a disease, I wish it'd just be banned for this forum.

From what i understand of the Spanish buy out system is that Athletic can accept the bid and just take the money from us.

How ever as they've rejected, Us/Herrera have to pay the money to the league and a huge amount of tax.

Surely just a technicality? Assume United initially tried to do the deal as a normal transfer to avoid the associated complications and taxes involved in going the buyout clause route. Athletic reject the offer so United are forced to go the other route. Given that Herrera is widely reported to have already travelled to Manchester it surely must be just a case of crossing the t's and dotting the i's.

He is in the last year of his contract as well. No way will he sign a new one with them after he has had a tour of Carrington, and we won't be going in for him when his release clause goes to 40 million. They are basically valuing one season more of Ander Herrera at 36 million Euros, and he isn't worth half that much to them.

I'm not worried, United are surely suitably prepared for this situation after last summer.

Just surprising they didn't automatically deal through the lawyers that dealt with Martinez and Bayern.

How much tax we talking about here?

If the difference is €4 Million then why is it such a big deal to avoid it. If were willing to pay €36 Million but baulk at €40 Million? That just seems completely daft
