Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Herrera would get vilified by Bilbao fans if this move doesn't go through. He's basically tried to leave their slave camp twice.

I hope not only for our but also his sake that we don't screw up/back out of this now.

Okay don not panic, bilbao insist on release clauses being paid. united offered the figure so as to un complicate the transfer, bilbao rejected it forcing united to go to the league. Now united will pay the clause + taxes to the league to get the deal done. It will be done for sure.

I'm confident we'll get him. It's now just a case of *how*.
Really? We turned down a chance to sign Herrera last season due to an extra 4 million, if that's the case what's the hope this time around? Isn't Herrera shelling in some of his wages?

We cant back out, it is so unfair on Herrera, he wouldnt be able to go back...

If the difference is €4 Million then why is it such a big deal to avoid it. If were willing to pay €36 Million but baulk at €40 Million? That just seems completely daft
Why do you think we will baulk at 40m? Do you not think it was in our interest to try and sort the deal out amicably to try avoid paying the tax?

I hope he just buys his contract out instead and screws them back, I really do.

Why are people blaming Woodward? I love it when people think they have some inside dealings to our transfers when in reality they know nothing what has gone on here. To United's credit I don't think we've said anything about the deal....stuff has come out in the press and that's it. There's been nothing from Woodward or anyone else and yet somehow it's their fault?

It's worth considering clubs like this are incredibly difficult to sign players from due to the limited nature of who they can replace them with. The Martinez to Bayern deal was a messy one and they chose to run Llorente's contract down rather than sell him, stuff like this is always going to take a while, it's frustrating but it's not as simple as blaming 1 person when you don't even know the goings on of the deal.

Its an increase of less than £2 Million, that tax won't be monstrously higher will it.

It's simply, just pay the league. Don't try and convince the club as they're tigher then a ducks arse......

Buying from Bilbao isn't 'normal'. Until two days ago nobody knew a bat about this. Get a grip and let the club do its work.

Well Im sure we will get the deal done anyway. Why would you think there was a problem with the paper work like reported. I just wish we could do things a bit quicker but there is only so much you can do with Clubs like Bilbao I guess

The club would have expected this and subsequently planned for it. It's very similar to Martinez to Bayern.

Again, surely someone can answer me. The Carrington thing must be bollocks right? A player can't go for a medical without his existing clubs permission.

They shouldn't, but players have done before. Didn't Berbatov?

Basically nobody really has a clue, but we can assume that we're in the process of trying to sign him before 1st of July. He's keen on the move, we're willing to pay, but things are going to be a bit tricky.
All these hourly updates are just unnecessary.

I'd think twice about joining Bilbao if i were a player - seems like hell to try and leave that place! Poor Herrera much be banging his head against a wall in Manchester somewhere.

I wouldn't be too fussed if it doesn't happen. He's not worth over £35m so they can stick their local club for local people ethos. They're like fecking Edward and Tubbs out of The League of Gentlemen.

The way I understand it, and I could be wrong here is that we offered to pay Atletic EUR36 million to avoid the tax crap. Remember, there would be no problems of a buy-out if Atletic just accept the offer. If we're forced to pay the 36 million as buy-out, we'd have to cover Hererra for the tax component which will add another 40% making it 50million EUR, something we wont do.

Well it certainly isn't unheard of. Craig Norwood said he was there and he's employed by United.

I would assume he has permission. This is just now the case of tax and money to actually get the transfer completed. Bilbao are incredibly hard to work with and the rejection and public announcement of it is all part of the 'process'.

Calm down guys.

Based on what happened with the Javi Martinez deal, I'm guessing this is what happened:-

1) Foreign clubs buying via release clause have to jump a lot of hoops and pay taxes to get the deal done.

2) Presumably, United wanted to avoid this and therefore offered the buy out clause amount to Bilbao directly hoping they would agree to deal directly.

3) Bilbao rejected this, so United are now forced to invoke the buy out clause. This means going through the Spanish Federation, paying the 36M Euros + VAT and submitting paperwork to both the tax authorities and the Spanish Federation.

It'll cost United a bit more and a lot more hassle but hopefully they get everything done properly and quickly before 1 July.

Can someone enlighten me?

Ander has a release cause of 36million.

We offer Bilbao 36mil (no tax) to completed the transfer but was rejected. They insist us paying the release cause + taxes to get him. Is this right?
