well it took bayern munich nearly 2 months to get round these tax issues once thy had met the buy out clause for martinez.

Apparently a buy-out clause and a release clause are two different things. Herrera has a buy-out clause which means the player literally has to buy-out his contract. This is a complicated transaction, because ofcourse the money to buy-out his contract is supplied by Manchester United to the player. This transaction of money to the player involves complicated tax issues, because it could be counted as form of income for the player and you would need to pay income taxes on this etc. It is a complicated deal, that takes quite alot of contract preparing effort. Javi Martinez his deal to Bayern was similar and it was also very complex to conclude for Bayern. Concluding such a deal and avoiding paying millions of additional taxes isn't straightforward I think. Nonetheless nothing United couldn't have known and prepared for, so I guess the hold up (technical issue) will be resolved soon enough.

Kroos is only valued at that price because he is about to enter the last year if his contract. Fabregas was unwanted by Barcelona. Herrera is being bought at his buy out fee, Athletico don't negotiate about this because they only use Basque players. There aren't many if those around so they need to get the most out of any players they sell.

And it's no more than £30m according to the reliable sources. £28m according to most of those. That's less than Fabregas. Kroos hasn't gone anywhere, so whatever hypothetical price you've conjured up for him is irrelevant.

Fabregas is 3 years older and unwanted by Barcelona and no-one knows what Kroos will be worth but, it will be less than normal market value as he is in his last year and has so far refused Bayerns terms, also the money United spend is money United have earned.
There is a possibility that we lost on Kroos/Fabregas transfer and Herrera is next on top of our midfield targets -who we want to sign - at any cost. I am sure the scouts have done enough work on Herrera. Don't forget we are out of champions league aswell, which will force us to pay more then transfer market value.
I am not worried at all - there is a reason why our club didn't announced his signing today. United probably knew it's not a done deal and they were waiting for legal process to go through in Spain, I am sure we have the best team behind this transfer and it will go through.
