Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Carrington is closed off. Only time photo could be taken would be of him arriving there and leaving, depending on how he got there and which entrance (if there are two, I've only ever seen James Cooper outside the one)
If we have kept it this tight then it shows, from the way this came out of the blue, that lessons were indeed learnt from last summer.

Well he's not considered amongst the Top30 Spanish players?
Good squad player IMHO.

Well he's not a goalkeeper, defender or striker, so that fills ups 20+ of those players. If you're saying he's not among the top 10 spanish midfielders you might have an argument worth making, but considering the strength of Spain's midfield, that doesn't automatically make him shit.

Happy to have signed a midfielder who people rate. I don't know much about him but I'm fearing he may not be that amazing midfielder we needed. Maybe LVG will sign another one?

No judgements till I see him play. Trusting Van Gaal for now.

The players that were deemed the very best in Spain embarrassed themselves in Brazil. Including midfielders. Difficult to name the best 30 from Spain, let alone 10 midfielders. The attacking players that were given a chance against the Aussies: Mata/Villa actually scored and looked better than their first-team counterparts.

Not necessarily, if Woodward had a maximum fee for him let's say 24m, he proposed that sum to Bilbao, they refused, Herrera heard about it and called his president and asked him to let him go.
During this time Herrera's agent give a phone call to Woodward and explains that if they pay the 28 something millions, the player is willing, to give away all bonuses.
still think it makes united look cheap, basically making players pay to join us.

I don't mind people saying that he's not the sort of top flight player they hoped for, or even for believing that we could have done better or got similar quality cheaper. Actually, I do mind, but I don't agree, I think people are underrating what will be his strengths for us and overplaying his weaknesses. :D

However using the Spanish NT against him is just wrong. Del Bosque takes players he knows, even when their club form is poor. He places direct subs for the first XI in the squad places. International football is an odd beast. Scholes gave it up, Carrick was never taken seriously - in a far weaker England team and with a far greater number of changes of management and personnel.

Give him a few weeks to find out what he can/can't get away with physically in the PL and he'll be a revelation for us. He's going to be a fan favourite.

Fabregas did it to go to Barcelona.

If it's the same deal that was discussed last year, United went close to the release clause but with loads of caveats like appearance clauses, bonuses for trophies won, bonuses if he became a full international - the usual stuff. Herrera offered to convert part of his guaranteed salary into bonuses to improve the offer to Athletic - because he believes he's going to be good for us.

You should be delighted by that attitude, not worry about it looking cheap.

Been a fan of his for long

He's just one of those players - he might just be exactly what we need for him to develop into an even better player he currently is & for United to have that "synergy" effect - i.e sum of parts being greater then individual components.

His skillset is almost exactly what we've been crying out for for several years now.

An in form Carrick or younger (more mobile version of Carrick) next to him & I'm confident our midfield can hold it's own against the big teams.

Del Bosque still takes finished players like Xavi, Torres and Casillas to the WC, don't think we can use Herrera's non selection as an issue. I would quite like a bet that he'll be a regular squad member with them within 2 years or so.

as far as i know bayern gave martinez the money to buy out his contract, they didnt make him then pay it back out of his wages.
He accepted lower wages just to make the transfer happen considering that the transfer was very high. A lot of players do this.

Anyway, we'll see what happens.

I would be surprised if a club of United's stature made a player pay some of his release clause without giving them the money back straight away in signing on fees or a bump in wages. If he has indeed done that, it's probably to circumnavigate some kind of contractual issue.

ill be surprised too, im hoping it just nonsense rumor that surround a transfer.

if it is true think it sends out a bad messgae to other potential signings

Most likely the media have misinterpreted this whole Herrera paying part of his release fee out of his money. I think we're doing like Bayern, give Herrera the money to buy himself out of his contract. There's no way someone would just pay 4m no matter how much he loves a club or how dedicated he is to the cause.

So folks, can someone give me the rundown of the last couple of hours that I've been away?

Are we announcing it tonight, or are we going to be extra cringeworthy and unveil Ander tomorrow or Friday after a street parade and circus show in his honour?

i am delighted with the attitue of herrera, just disappointed in the club, think if you got a good player ready to go that extra few yards to joining your club, we should just stump up the cash.

but really it just nip picking genrally im just delighted if we get him, the how isnt that important!

Yeah I wouldn't pay £4m to leave my hometown club and drop out of the Champions League.

We can't give Herrera money to pay off his release clause. That's exactly what you can't do as it exposes him (or us) to an income tax bill.

There is a question mark over whether Herrera has used unpaid bonuses/wages from last season to force Athletic to negotiate with us, allowing us to avoid using the legal release clause mechanism. Rakitic did something similar for the Sevilla - Barca move to change the transfer fee.

Javi Martinez wouldn't be going to the WC if Bayern hadn't signed him. And even then he only gets in as a back up CB.

Two seasons at United will get Herrera into the squad for the Euros.

Man United's whole midfield created 62 chances last season, while Herrera created 54, just 8 less.

I'm not arsed checking but I'd imagine Martinez could have had 10 or so Spain caps before going to Bayern and that was Spain in their prime.

Didn't Martinez go to the 2010 World Cup? He moved to Bayern after that didn't he?
