Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Was it really damning - not to be part of that squad? he won't be damaged by the experience.

Furthermore he wouldn't have fitted into that squad as it was, he loses the ball too much for a spanish midfielder.. doesn't make him lesser than some of the players in that squad, just doesn't fit into their style.

Well he's not considered amongst the Top30 Spanish players?
Good squad player IMHO.

I just want to see the pictures of him officially signing now! Its frustrating.

He's not Tier1 and that's exactly what I worry about....enough with these Tier 2/3 'maybe will come good one day' 'potential' players like A.Young (who I didn't rate at all either!).
Let's get some Tier1 world class talent.
If he's being bought as a squad player and to beef up numbers then I totally agree.

In my opinion, currently he should be. That squad was based on reputation, not on their current ability. He has more energy, directness and is more of a threat than alot of the players in that squad. He'll go on to prove that when he joins us, I'm sure of it.

He's not Ashley Young, lets not be silly.. he is more than good enough to play for the top sides.

I figure we'll have a 4-3-3 for tougher games and a 4-2-3-1 for ones where we're trying to break teams down. Something like this:

------------RVP-------
Januzaj/Nani------Mata
----Herrera---CM-----
---------Carrick-------
LB----CB-----CB----RB

in tougher games, and against weaker sides, this:

-------------------RVP-------
Januzaj/Nani-Kagawa/Rooney-Mata
-------------Herrera---CM---------
-LB----------CB--------CB---------RB
I'd happily see Rooney in that CM spot in the first formation if we don't sign another midfielder. He could alternate between a midfield and second striker. He's good at tracking back. Either that, or Mata in the CM spot and an actual winger on the right wing.

I believe with what he brings to the CM, he is a tier 1 talent to us as he is exactly what is needed by us in the centre of the pitch.

Against weaker teams..

He could easily play in a 2 man midfield in English football if we're at home against a weaker side, but away from home in Europe he'd be best in a three man midfield. He's more like a Di Maria type of mid. If we surround him with wingers and forwards with pace and finishing ability, I can see him racking up assists and making use of extra space he is afforded.

Looks pretty. Thanks again :)

Same. I quite like Rooney in a three.

Maybe I'm too skeptical, feck me, if he was at Carrington (and for a few hours given the time that's elapsed), then why isn't there any picture of him there ?

Loudblaze you do have a point there. Many Spanish/ Latin players struggle to adjust to the physicality of the Premier League (atleast initially). We saw the effects on De Gea who was frankly taken by surprise at the intensity of the game. That said a few months on United's diet/ weight program (that transformed Ronaldo/ De Gea/ Januzaj from weeds) will work wonders for Ander. :)

Im sure it will!

Gotta admit, I'm not super-excited by Herrera.
Seems average at best.
Never set the match alight any time I've seen him play (La Liga or UCL).
Most damning of all for me though, he wasn't even selected in the Spanish 30-man list for the World Cup, says a lot IMO.
Hmmm....hopefully one of many midfielders.

Probably because he's never played in it..

It doesn't say much considering he's not your typical 'Spanish' player and doesn't fit their style of play. Isco wasn't in it either and before Ancelotti changed to 4-3-3 he was one of Madrid's best players behind Ronaldo, doesn't mean he's any less of a player because he wasn't selected. Not to mention Gabi who was one of the best in the league.

cause 90% of UK journalists are in brazil or cause the club have done an exceptional job hiding it

What's your opinion of Gabi? He also failed to make Del Bosque's 30 man squad after all. I thought he had a pretty good season though.

Likewise Isco for that matter...

Woody has him hidden well I reckon. He probably dressed him up as Ashley Young to avoid any attention.

Yeah I also watched all of his games in the Champions League and thought he was bang average.

World Cup, Wimbledon, England's useless cricket team... United signing someone only football nerds have heard of isn't really a priority for English sports journalists, right now.

I've watched a few games of him this and last season but I'm just gonna pretend I haven't, as he was shit in most of them. Would postpone my judgement for after I see him in a red shirt.

Would I be right to assume that Vidal or Pogba are Tier 1 for you?

At Carrington already?

Stupid word filters coming to our forums, ruining our gifs.

Mata was announced at 9:30pm, could we be seeing confirmation at around that time again?

Carrington is closed off. Only time photo could be taken would be of him arriving there and leaving, depending on how he got there and which entrance (if there are two, I've only ever seen James Cooper outside the one)
