Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

I guess we'll have to wait till Friday for this one.. Gonna be a super long wait! Sigh..

So I'm guessing Hererra is pretty much in the bag, which is excellent news as it still gives us just over 2 months to strengthen other parts of our Squad. I think we are also trying to get Shaw now as well. If we announced both Herrera and Shaw on friday that would be absolutely amazing and a great show of intent from the club.

I also think we should go with Fellaini playing next to Herrera next season until January, to show us what he can do, coming off a (hopefully successfully ) world cup. This is only assuming we don't sign another midfielder this summer, which I hope we do obviously.

About his international caps..., I'm sure he'll get plenty of call ups to the national team if he does well with us.

The international caps argument is pretty rubbish actually. Man City signed a 30m player who had little or no Brazilian caps from a B Class League last season and he turned out to be one of their better players. We've been following him for three years now, I think he'll prove the doubters wrong here.

Failing to get into Spain's midfield is no shame. Arteta has never gotten a cap.

I agree. Also spain is well stocked in that area

No we really shouldn't.

Not sure if serious.

Imagine having Herrera and Thiago as our options in CM rather than Cleverley and Fellaini.

In fairness I doubt we would have bought both. I'm guessing there was a list and Thiago was top of it, with Herrera as a fall back option. Still, if the Mail is to be believed its a poor showing that we could've got either and ended up with neither under Moyes.

seconded/third(ed)??

It's hardly any shame that chances in the national team are limited
'Hey he doesn't get in the spain team, he must be average!'

'Yeah man anyone not getting picked infront of Alonso, Iniesta, Xavi, Silva, Cesc, Mata must be pure sh!t'

xD

Bollocks, I was hoping this would be announced by the time I woke up. Maybe they are waiting for 1 or 2 lads to come back from the World Cup so they can announce them all at once?

United could really raid some of la liga's top talent, now if only we can sign one of di Maria or Sanchez, that solves our lack of speed in the team

We shouldn't get carried away now. Let this one first be announced

Could the deal be announced yet anyway, with the New York Stock Exchange being closed and all? I'm not familiar with how the Stock Market works, but i always thought that all deals have to be announced on there first before being made public elsewhere? I seem to remember van Gaal being announced as our manager around the same time the NYSE opened. Might just be coincidence though.

Most places saying it'll be done on Friday so I'll go with that. Incredible how this all came out of nowhere and happened so quickly though, no rumours at all and literally nobody knew about it until cadena ser reported everything had been agreed. Quick and quiet.

the problem is we have no winger considered world class or anywhere near that. Young has to be replaced asap and Nani is the one to follow. Obviously we have to solve CB first now.

I just hope Januzaj can make the next step in his development soon

Sorry for bringing Moyes up, but last year, he and Woodward offered €25m (€11m under his buyout clause) to a club that only sells if you offer the buyout clause. That was amateurish. Pay the buyout figure, or don't bother.

Assuming the half player he's referring to is the bloke we signed last summer.

Personally I think he's underplaying how effective Herrera will be in the Premier League. Herrera's style might be too English for La Liga but his willingness to run from midfield and commit players will stand out for us. Especially as we've had nobody to take the ball forward from midfield that since Ando stopped progressing. I don't see Herrera being a Carrick style unsung hero, he's too dynamic and too mobile for that. Rafa Hernandez is right that Herrera's probably not going to be an assist machine, he's not a Modric or a Xavi. However, Herrera's got the engine to drive us forward, he won't just stand their waiting and pass it sideways if there's no obvious ball on. Herrera will take responsibility for putting us on the front foot, and we like that kind of midfielder in England (look at the love Ramires gets!) Herrera will be the darling of both the United faithful and the Manchester press pack in no time.

5 goals, 6 assists in 33 league games for Herrera this season. Direct contribution in 11 goals in 33 games hence, a goal created every 3 games. That's good enough for a CM in terms of numbers and he brings whole lot more to the table.

We could do with a CM who can pass and score from time to time. Exciting signing, exactly what I wanted - hunger for trophies, ability on the ball as well as gutsy attitude on the pitch. An intelligent lad to boot by all accounts. Still reasonably young (he's exactly my age so let's call him a youngster).

So nothing's happening yet, besides circlejerks and the usual poster who's obsessed with Moyes talking about him again? At least it's finally been agreed he's a proper CM now *Refreshes page*

Those tweets, are pretty much what I expect Herrera to be. A more mobile and assertive Michael Carrick (in his prime, not now.) We need these kinds of players.

I would be very, very surprised if this doesn't happen now.

Whether he's a sung or unsung hero is largely irrelevant, the issue we have is our midfield is woeful and that has undermined our results, improving the midfield will increase cohesion and improve results. We dont desperately need a player to get the fans out of their seats, we have RVP, Mata, Rooney et al for that.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that all of our central midfielders contributed to ONE goal in the entire 2013/2014 season. If that's indeed the case, 5 goals from Herrera alone is amazing from that lookout. Can someone confirm that statistic?

Yes, he has 5 goals and 5 assists, but he played in a more advanced role last season. I remember reading somewhere that our midfielders failed to make a single through ball all season...

Spot on.

From what I've seen of him he would - for example, walk into England's team. Its hardly surprising he hasn't dislodged Spain's midfield given they've won the last three major tournaments.

Might get a chance no though - especially if he impresses here.

The best thing about him is that not only is he a good CM himself but he'll also bring the best out of Carrick as he'll have forward passes available to him. Even if we don't see another CM, and there is a good chance of that happening, the Van Gall's midfield three would already look decent. Carrick, Herrera and Mata/Kagawa/Rooney will fit the profiles much better than what we currently have and although it would be nice to sign a pure ball-winner, Herrera made more succesful tackles than any midfielder that Spain took to Brazil. Also more than any of our CMs last season (3.1 per game with Fellaini coming closest at 2.8).

He also created more goalscoring oppurtunities than any of our midfielders (53). Looks like an all-rounded CM, exactly what we need.

AM* He has played as an AM the entire season. Last year as a CM he had 1 goal and 2 assists I believe.

Transfermarkt can.

Nope. Not all season. He would play as one of the midfield three (not the most advanced) in 4-3-3 (right-sided), esp. against bigger teams like R. Madrid. It's just his late runs, directness and preference to join the attacks from time to time that made him look like an AM. Obviously, he did play as an AM for a good portion of games but it's not like he played there whole season. With the fluid Bilbao's midfield it's hard to tell sometimes.
