Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

De Jong is already getting old himself and considering his aggressive nature and physically straining style we don't want him. His legs are already starting to decline slightly and I can see him getting red card after red card by then.

Why not pick up someone like Bargfrede who has the same style but is 25 and has 5 years ahead of him instead of 1.

De Jong is 29 isnt he? LVG (if he wants him) would be the best jusge on whether his legs are going. If he thinks not then I dont see that it would be an issue.

De Jong is an expereinced international, with PL experience, as well as being a player the manager ha sworked with before and knows he can trust. I can see why he would go for him, if indeed he intends to.

Could very well be. Giggs was on SuperSport TV here in SA doing punditry and he's just disappeared all of a sudden.

People on Twitter were saying he told SuperSport he had urgent transfer business and he had to leave. I never posted it on here because I thought it was BS, but it makes a bit more sense now.

I think he's got enough left to do a good job in the Premier League for a season or two, and for the £6 million that's been quoted in the media that'd be worth it imo. Basically just a cog to help Van Gaal implement his system, to be upgraded when the right player comes along. Of course if we could get a top class DM this summer then its moot, but there's not that many stand-out options. I like the look of Carvalho, but he's for from proven and the rumoured price tag makes it a big risk.

Badelj is a much better option and still going to be cheap to buy from Hamburg and he has been great this season. Better tackling and intercepting than De Jong and just 25, as is Bargfrede who is a great tackler - I'd say better than De Jong as well. Both these would be cheap as well but be more long term options.

Specialized DM's cost peanuts mate, no top clubs are interested so if we intend to use one we should go for the top players like Badelj as then we have a player for half a decade.

De Jong averages a yellow card every third game in the league and it is in Serie A which is of poor quality right now. If he is up against tricky dribblers he will average much higher amounts than that.

If LVG wants him I am all for it as I trust him.

I know this is the Herrera thread and I keep talking about De Jong but Ill just say this as (maybe) my last comment about him in here: his performance against Chile was exactly the kind of thing not one of our current midfielders seems capable of. If we are struggling to land our top targets because of this CL issue, De Jong is a great short term solution IMO.

De Jong - Herrera - Mata would give me confidence. Watch our attacking players come to life with that platform behind them.

You're not wrong. But I would look at other younger options before I got him. I'd say he has another 2-4 years in him.

Why do people keep bringing Moyes into this? He had nothing to do with the transfer. \

He made an offer based on our scout reports then he decided to pull out when Woodward wanted to pay the release clause, because he was afraid he might get blamed if he doesn't turn up good. That's the kind of man he is, the kind that has the hand on the wall when he takes a piss, because he's afraid he might fall in the toilet.

Hahahahaha big LOLz. Im using this!

Didn't hear he had urgent transfer business. Great to see us making moves in the market.

Yup. I assume part of it was the Herrera business but I wonder if have anything else happening this week.

Normally players won't announce it on social media until the club announce it I guess, unless your name is Eden Hazard
Fair points, but didn't Mata change parts of his twitter profile from Chelsea to United before his move had been announced.

I thought it was the other way round, because the first confirmation of signing was from our official website. No? In any case, I think the player would rather start texting his friends and love ones rather than busy with his instangram or twitter.

If there's better options available I'd be more than happy with them too. What I like about De Jong is that he's absolutely proven. I'm not saying this is necessarily the case with Badelj, but there's been so many DMs that have enjoyed a decent reputation for a year or so and then went to shit. De Jong at least has proven himself over a long period of time.

I agree that is important, which is why I would pick Gustavo as he is world-class as an individual and has proven himself to excel in a LVG system before. Best high pressing DM in the world, and available for us for quite a cheap sum. 6 millions is nothing for a big transfer these days, but in terms of buying a DM 6 millions is a lot as the best in the world would be Gustavo who will go for 20-25.

Gustavo would be a fine signing as well, I agree!

All we can do is cross the fingers. It's easy saying, 'all we need now is another CM, a top class winger, and two CB's', but it never pans out that way unfortunately. It depends how much groundwork the club really has done too, hopefully a lot!
Yeah I know, that's true. I'm just pleased that this transfer is like how we used to do things. Keeping it generally under wraps and the rumours only going strong when the deal is close to being complete.

Carvalho and he would be immense retaining and driving forward from the middle.

I dont give a feck what sporting say 30 million has to get them thinking.

Jesus,i dont care id take DeJong the way he plays for van gaal as proper Dm if we get herrera.

Ideally

----Carvalho-------
---------------Herrera
---------Mata---------
-------------------Januzaj
----Rooney---------
--------------VanP----

Raf and Carvalho/Dejong sweeping to cover and indulge Rooney<if he stays.i envisage more problems> in a floating inverted ss on the right. He leaves,we get a right winger no biggie,

Carvalho and Herrera with Carrick,Fellaini,Fletcher,Clev and maybe Ando back isnt a bad panel to get us through this hump year, have our proper proper clear out and attract more of the top tier players by getting the monkey that is not offering champions league football of our back.

I would actually love him here!

This.

Moyes is the reason we didn't sign Herrera last summer, he's not the reason we are signing him now. Moyes, as he was throughout his time at United, was too scared to take a big decision when our scouts presented Herrera as an option. Even Graham Hunter admits that Moyes was scared if the transfer went wrong he would be blamed, and so he backed out. Martin Ferguson, by all accounts, had been watching Herrera for two years but Moyes decided to go with what he knew: Fellaini. Look how that turned out?!

As I said yesterday I'm tired of Moyes an his apologists making excuses for him. Moyes was going to sign Thiago, but Giggs stopped him. Moyes was going to buy Herrera, but he got fired. Moyes was going to rebuild the team around X, Y and Z. I'm not interested in what Moyes and his boys in the media say he was going to do, I only care about what he did: Drag United down.

This is wrong. United has scouted Herrera for 18 months before Moyes came and actually he wasn't ready to go all in for him because regardless of reports he didn't saw him that much playing. I think that it is absolutely certain that Van Gaal has given the green light for the transfer, be it based on the reports from United scouts or because he has seen him playing before.

Let me rephrase that since we are going after players that were previously on our radar I am not sure how involved Van Gaal is in the transfer dealings.

Exactly!

Aye, Fellaini was the safe option for Moyes. He was a safe man though and that's probably why he'll never succeed at a big club.

Boom.

Mail saying we've been watching Herrera for three years and have also been tracking Iturraspe.

Also restates that Sir Alex left a deal in place for Thiago but Moyes backed out.
