Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Do you reckon Anders will play the box to box role and Carrick will be the playmaker? Does LVG play like that? Not too sure what position Herrera actually plays, as I've not seen much of him, to be honest.
Hard to know but my guess will be that the main playmaker will be the No.10 player with Herrera helping him too. I think that Carrick will play more as a defensive midfielder rather than a deep lying playmaker like he has done in the past. Total guess, anyway.

First non Scottish United manager for nearly three decades, and a united manager is prepared to pay the asking price for a good central midfielder.

I am not sure how involved Van Gaal has been with the transfers so far. Especially, since we are going after guys previously earmarked by Moyes.

We've been linked with Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw since Ferguson was in charge. And earmarked by Moyes? There is no way Dithering Dave knew what players he wanted before the last 4 hours of the transfer market.

I'm sure van Gall gave the go ahead. He's only a phonecall away. It's not like he's in Brazil wondering why the feck we're signing Herrera.

This is wrong. United has scouted Herrera for 18 months before Moyes came and actually he wasn't ready to go all in for him because regardless of reports he didn't saw him that much playing. I think that it is absolutely certain that Van Gaal has given the green light for the transfer, be it based on the reports from United scouts or because he has seen him playing before.

Northolt? WTF?

Ah, I used to live right next to the Northolt RAF base. Good times.
I can only imagine they wanted to get him in to the country discretely, and they could well be going to our offices in London to sign the paperwork, rather than doing it in Manchester.

I know what and where Northolt is, but why are we flying him into there and not somewhere vaguely near Manchester?
Presumably because the business side of things is run from the London offices more than Manchester nowadays?

Indeed. It's not as if anyone's at Carrington doing the meet and greet at this time of the year.

Some people on Twitter were saying Giggs was back here for some transfer business last week, so maybe Giggs is waiting for him?

I agree but it's obviously a step down from someone like Vidal.

Definitely, but we're not likely to be successful in getting top-class quality in every position that needs addressing in one summer. Personally I think Carrick might still have enough in him to partner Herrera, but someone like De Jong would at least give us a workable alternative on the cheap if its not working.

Not sure, I only have it on my Vita and gave up after I accidentally offered 45m for strootman and they wouldnt take my initial 23m offer.....

Well considering i'm teetering on the sack by Cardiff, i might as well start a new Utd save and turn it into a Van Gaal side haha.

I can't believe it. We're actually going to sign a young, talented, box to box midfielder. :D:drool: I'm very happy that we've stuck with it in terms of trying to pursue him from last summer. Having watched quite a few of Bilbao's games last season, he is a great player who has the potential to keep getting better and is very much what we need right now. And hopefully we can all our deals done this efficiently.

He's a different option to Carrick as well. Less likely to be bullied, more aggressive. I think he's a really useful option to have. Once we are in the CL again we have more chance of luring someone like Vidal, so this would be a good stop gap.

All we can do is cross the fingers. It's easy saying, 'all we need now is another CM, a top class winger, and two CB's', but it never pans out that way unfortunately. It depends how much groundwork the club really has done too, hopefully a lot!

De Jong is already getting old himself and considering his aggressive nature and physically straining style we don't want him. His legs are already starting to decline slightly and I can see him getting red card after red card by then.

Why not pick up someone like Bargfrede who has the same style but is 25 and has 5 years ahead of him instead of 1.

Going to be funny when he signs and the finger will be pointed at Moyes for not being able to bring in a quality CM where in reality, he was in for him too but it came down to business.

Could very well be. Giggs was on SuperSport TV here in SA doing punditry and he's just disappeared all of a sudden.

Aye, I'd fancy him to take Carrick's place most of the time if we did sign him (and Herrera). De Jong/Herrera/Mata looks like a nicely balanced and good quality midfield three to me, particularly when we don't have the CL to think about.

I would cross that off, and replace one of the CB's for another right back

I think he's got enough left to do a good job in the Premier League for a season or two, and for the £6 million that's been quoted in the media that'd be worth it imo. Basically just a cog to help Van Gaal implement his system, to be upgraded when the right player comes along. Of course if we could get a top class DM this summer then its moot, but there's not that many stand-out options. I like the look of Carvalho, but he's for from proven and the rumoured price tag makes it a big risk.

I know this is the Herrera thread and I keep talking about De Jong but Ill just say this as (maybe) my last comment about him in here: his performance against Chile was exactly the kind of thing not one of our current midfielders seems capable of. If we are struggling to land our top targets because of this CL issue, De Jong is a great short term solution IMO.

De Jong - Herrera - Mata would give me confidence. Watch our attacking players come to life with that platform behind them.

Why do people keep bringing Moyes into this? He had nothing to do with the transfer. \

He made an offer based on our scout reports then he decided to pull out when Woodward wanted to pay the release clause, because he was afraid he might get blamed if he doesn't turn up good. That's the kind of man he is, the kind that has the hand on the wall when he takes a piss, because he's afraid he might fall in the toilet.
