Brilliant signing

He's a mobile player who can operate in any midfield position and is technically very good with outstanding ball retention skills. When the going gets tough Ander is more than capable of mixing it up against the Pulis or Sam Allardyce teams for example. He has a fantastic passing range and i'm not surprised LVG has given the go-ahead for this signing cause he will prove to be a brilliant purchase.

I don't even know what you're saying now, unless this is one of your standard "won't admit I'm wrong" logical black holes.

He played in CM against us in March 2012. This was part of the 2011/12 season. He subsequently also played for Bilbao in the 11/12 and 13/14 seasons.

Every article online I've read about him talks about him being moved forwards to play as a 10 under his new manager. Something he allegedly struggled with before coming good in the second half of the season. Are you know trying to claim that he also played in that same position under his previous manager in 11/12, only to be coincidentally moved into central midfield on those two games against us? Only that has to be bollox because I watched a fair few of Bilbao's games that season and he played as a CM every time I saw them.

Back in the real world, it's probably safe to assume he's played two seasons (not the one you claim) in CM during his Bilbao career i.e. the majority of it.

In the two matches Bilbao's central midfielders were Iturraspe and Javi Martinez. These are 2 deep defensive midfielders. Bayern sit Martinez in front of the defence to protect it. Bilbao continue to sit Iturraspe in front of their defence to protect it even to this day.

Ander Herrerra played in front of them linking the midfield with the lone striker Fernando Llorente.

I dont know about you, but I find watching football a bit more reliable than trying to piece it together from articles

Just had a thought, he's spanish, can he wear a suit?
He's like Bruce Wayne. When he's pimping like a football agent he gotta look like straight business player but in the same time he knows that his other life about football and donuts must come first soon.

I tried to find him in Pokémon. Unless his special attack is Lightning Rod, I think that I may be looking in the wrong place.

Well I found Charmander there, isnt that the same guy??

YES, sign him up, play him every game, by the second season the commentators and his ratings go through the roof. THE PASS MASTER, MIDFIELD MEASTRO, EVERYTHING GOES THROUGH HIM.

I tried that with Fellaini hasn´t happened yet! Are you sure?

Agent De Gea already got this before completing the whole deal.

De Gea must be one of our best signings of recent years. Not content with being a top keeper, he's also been instrumental in bringing in Mata, and now Herrera.

I like that this is back to the old style of "We've just signed this player." and nobody had any idea it was happening. OK, it's not confirmed yet but the first we hear is that it's a done deal, he's in Manchester having a medical, that sort of thing. BBC reporting it is good enough for me.

Agent is Ben Miller from Actyvos, my pal just rang him for a sports event they are running. He said he was just getting on a plane with Herrera, apparently when asked he said this is going to be done!

Good signing, can't help but think this was done last summer and hence his slow season last year, I know a couple of niggles but he wasnt as apparent as they year before. Hopefully he re-finds that kind of form.

£30 million for someone nearly 25 who has zero international caps?

fecking money bags club.

Yes. He's not as good as the attacking players in the Spain setup - Mata, Cazorla, Fabregas, Koke, Silva. Michu was also called up and they said they were delighted with him, so I guess he's on that list too.

Central midfielders that have been called up instead of him include Javi Garcia, Mario Suarez, Ander Iturraspe (his teammate)

Its a lot of money

Oh and Ekeke is spot on about his position. Ander even says himself he prefers playing more advanced.

 He got a long term plans for United. VIP chopper is probably already waiting for Herrera to go to United training grounds. That's how Big Dave rolls.

I wouldn't be surprised if he told Van Gaal and Woodward that Ander is more keen to join us then Cesc. He knows what's going on and Casillas is already describing him as next number one in Spain.

More than useful.

Btw I'm not saying he cant play CM. He should be able to given his skillset includes wanting to win the ball.

But if we want him to play in a midfield 2 it will be another project. In a midfield 3 he could probably find the freedom he's used to at Bilbao

The same shit you tried to peddle by claiming Strootman was like Barry and how we should sign Van Ginkel and Maher over him. Fair to say it's best ignoring the majority of what you come out with when it comes to this kind of stuff.

And finally a MF player who doesn't scare to put those tackles.
Decent on ball,hard worker.
Lets hope this happens before weekend, anything more would turn this into a tasteless bubble gum.

Who said he was like Barry? PSV coach Dick Advocaat.

Barry is a good player, did you sleep through this season?

I doubted Strootman because of the league he came from and the 90 mins or so football I saw him play, Van Bommel was playing better than he was.

Ander Hererra I've watched and been a fan of since 2011. But I'm not going to lie and say he's better than he is.

As I recall it was Oscar de Marcos who played in midfield with Iturraspe and Herrera, Martinez was at centre-back. There was actually a ton of chat on the caf about whether or not we should go in for him as a midfield because of that fact.

The truth is its close between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 especially as the most advanced midfielder which Herrera usually was. Whether playing in the hole specifically, or just behind as the most advanced of a midfield 3 he always put a shift in and felt a defensive duty. He tackled, he fouled, he defended. As we've seen with Oscar, that doesn't mean you're a central midfielder.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree because we won't see eye to eye on this.

4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 are distinct formations. Herrera was not playing in the hole. He was playing in the way Di Maria, for example, plays when Ancelotti goes 4-3-3 at Madrid. Herrera was expected to, and did, get up and down on the right of the centre of midfield and worked in tandem with De Marcos in front of Iturraspe. Just like Di Maria works with Modric in front of Xabi Alonso when Carlo plays the BBC. Herrera's role under Bielsa was nothing like Oscar's in Chelsea's 4-2-3-1.

David De Gea is 23 with 1 international cap, I dont think that has any baring on how good a player is. Even more true for a Spanish midfielder when there has been so many world class players in that position in the past 5 years when herrera would be in contention for a spot. If he was Irish and wasn't getting into our midfield I'd be worried.

LVG clearly likes what he sees or he would be holding off on signing him.

You watched one game of Strootman and then an Under 21 tournament in which you proceeded to shit all over him and claim players like Van Ginkel and Maher were basically better. That's enough for me to not take anything you say too seriously when you're coming out with stuff as bad as that based on close to feck all.

He's almost four years younger than Fabregas so we're definitely gonna have a long term midfielder who also has ambitions to be a part of the new Spain's team for future tournaments.

Yeah, Martinez was playing CB at that stage. Bielsa loves that kinda shit.

He's a centre midfielder. You're the only one trying to argue that he isn't, which isn't really surprising.

Do any regular Bilbao watchers know how Muniain has progressed?

Comparatively? No.
TV income doubling in Prem and Bundesliga, Sponsor income doubling, Shirt deal maybe.
Prices have already been surgeing, and will continue to. He will seems a bargain in a couple of years.
Fellaini will still seem expensive though.
