We need someone at Manchester airport, now!

BTW, those buses to the city centre take forever, not sure Herrera will be too pleased
Agent De Gea already got this before completing the whole deal.

He also played 4 matches in CM last season. That doesn't mean he didnt play 26 others in behind the striker as his main position, as it was when he moved to Bilbao in 2011.

I don't even know what you're saying now, unless this is one of your standard "won't admit I'm wrong" logical black holes.

He played in CM against us in March 2012. This was part of the 2011/12 season. He subsequently also played for Bilbao in the 12/13 and 13/14 seasons.

Every article online I've read about him talks about him being moved forwards to play as a 10 under his new manager in 13/14. Something he allegedly struggled with before coming good in the second half of the season.

Are you now trying to claim that he also played in that same position under his previous manager in 11/12, only to be coincidentally moved into central midfield on those two games against us? Only that has to be bollox because I watched a fair few of Bilbao's games that season and he played as a CM every time I saw them.

Back in the real world, it's probably safe to assume he's played two seasons (not the one you claim) in CM during his Bilbao career i.e. the majority of it.

It'd be funny if he was on that easyjet flight. Soldado flew Ryanair when he came in to sign for Spurs.

And sky bet has suspended betting on Herrera joining United. Sky bet also says that united are "odds on" to sign Schweinsteieger.

Very good first signing this. Encouraging stuff.

Get Schweinsteiger (or another top midfielder) in now on top of this and we're flying.

This whole time I thought Herrera came through Bilbao's youth system haha

Am not denying that valencia was good during that time period but he was a major step down from ronaldo and thus weakened our team. At that time, we could have signed robben/sanchez/hazard/ribery according to the rumors. All who would have helped fill the ronaldo size hole much better as they are similar in playing style than someone like valencia.

We had rooney and that it. As evidenced by us crashing out of the CL and losing the PL as soon as he got injured. Think it was the blackburn match where berba kept msising chances. You can call him our highest transfer ever but he never really fitted our style and was a major downgrade on tevez. The only reason tevez didnt start a lot that season was because SAF wanted to fit berba in. No way would he be a benchwarmer based on his quality as he showed yhe nexy season.

So for me that was the start of our decline but you are free to disagree. Opinions and all.

Neither of them was better than Valencia (bar probably Ribery which anyway was completely unavailable). Hazard was 18 years old back then, so hardly he would have been a better signing than Valencia. Sanchez was struggling at Udinese and still didn't had a big name for himself. The problem is that players somehow compare the Valencia of today with the likes of Hazard/Sanchez of today, regardless that 5 years ago Valencia was a top player while Hazard/Sanchez were young players that nobody has heard for them. The same goes for Robben, back then he was inconsistent and perma-injured and it was a big doubt that he was better than Valencia (I think that Valencia outperformed him on 11-12 and they were at around the same level on two other seasons.

With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to say that we should have gone for either of them instead of Valencia, but back then we didn't know it and Valencia was a great winger and a top signing. No-one could have predicted that Valencia will become shit within a night and Robben will become consistent and unselfish when he reaches thirties.

flight tracker on the ready, tweets that say he will sign today others at the end of the week, constantly pressing F5, the phrase done deal has been thrown around too

This Really is Redcafe during the summer

He can play behind the striker or bang in the center of the midfield. Where's the issue? Don't have another episode like you did with Strootman.

With van Gaal there will not be bedding him slowly nonsense causing us to play with Cleverley for another six months. He will be a regular from the go I think and will impove us significantly.

French Air Control are currently on strike by the way. Could hold up any flight. Not lying a mate in work is meant to be going Lanzarote tommorow and has been informed this morning his flight will be more than likely cancelled.

Pretty sure United will fly him chartered.

Personally I thought Thiago Alcantara was the star of that side.

Bilbao have been using 4-3-3 or some variant of it for awhile before Valverde. I don't remember Herrera playing in the hole before last season for them. El Loco Bielsa had a point man with Munain and Susaeta on the flanks and a three man midfield, which Ander was part of. It was Valverde who started playing with a 10.

The truth is its close between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 especially as the most advanced midfielder which Herrera usually was. Whether playing in the hole specifically, or just behind as the most advanced of a midfield 3 he always put a shift in and felt a defensive duty. He tackled, he fouled, he defended. As we've seen with Oscar, that doesn't mean you're a central midfielder.

Hehe, alright I started making a huge post then I thought "With all these credentials it must have been a joke".

But basically Gustavo performed great for Bayern at the highest level, he has performed brilliant for Brazil for quite some time now and it was the Brazilians who first knocked Spain of their throne. He is used to merciless pressing and Bayerns tactics were largely influenced by LVG even if he didn't train directly under LVG.

So this World Cup is just a bonus, I doubt he can keep up the level he has held so far it is not possible for any midfielder to rack up those stats through an entire tournament. He has been intercepting balls for fun and in comparison to a tackle, interceptions often lead to much quicker more dangerous counters as you basically steal a pass and can instantly set your team mates free.

Winning a tackle is nearly always followed with a challenge for the ball, or at least a time where you are trying to get on the ball even if both are great of course. Should be noted that his tackling is bigger strength.
Yeah you're point is well made, as I said I like him too, he would certainly be an asset if he transitioned into the English game

The 5 year release of pent up frustration waiting for a CM signing is going to be like a horny teenager spaffing all over his girlfriends belly before he even gets the tip wet at the merest sniff of her clunge.

Wow, this was out of the blue! Great news if it's true though and a very good start to our transfer business.

I think the fact that we weren't being linked with Herera in the papers is further evidence (if it was even needed) that the journalists don't really have a clue who we'll be going for this summer.

That is one of the deepest, most beautiful things, I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
