Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

To be fair Owen was free & made City cry and Valencia was great until that terrible injury.

Not sure who that player on the left is, I vaguely remember him getting about 30 more games for us than reason would allow.
Gabriel Obertan is on the left. He didn't last long.

EZY187817:55BilbaoScheduled 17:55 Sorry I had to......the EasyJet flight from Bilbao to Manchester arrives at 17.55.....if hes coming from Bilbao.

It was a horrible summer because we sold ronaldo and let tevez go, and started the decline in our side's quality.
I don't think that we started any decline considering that we almost became champions (with only one point less than Chelsea) and then next season won the league and went to UCL final. The decline started (IMO) on the 2011-2012 season when SAF tried to rejuvenate the team but after the 1-6 loss, he turned things to auto-drive and then we started playing like before.

We lost Ronaldo but everybody knew that it'll happen. We didn't replace Tevez but he wasn't that important anyway and had scored only 5 league goals on that season. Berbatov was supposed to be his replacement. Valencia was a top signing. We were good but when Scholes and Giggs declined (around a couple of years later) then we didn't replace them and we became boring. While on the defense we went for potential which we anyway didn't ever gave the chance.

I'm sure we can afford to charter a private jet for him.

Easy Jet

Correct, but he is a CM in the mould of Modric/Gundogan and is the type of player we have needed for years.

He's really not.

He's a tall, most often used number 10 with disciplinery issues in the season Bilbao used him in a 3 man midfield.

Whereas Modric struggled behind the striker at Madrid and has only come good now he's been allowed to play in a deeper central midfield role, Ander has been the opposite playing better behind the striker than in central midfield.

He's a "nice" player in the same way Kagawa has been at United. In that his skill taking someone on and ability to pick someone out suggest the talent is there, but he just doesnt do it enough. Obviously at Dortmund Kagawa did do it more consistantly. Ander has yet to show he will.

Woody's got him all packed up.

He definitely needs a playmaker next to him. Not carrick, someone who is more mobile, other wise his high tempo game will be a waste.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Anyone who remembers United pre-Fergie's fledgelings will recognise Herrera's style instantly: He's a number 8 who will pick up the ball in midfield and drive forward with it, trying to commit players and make room for others. It was the hallmark of players like Keane, Ince and Robson. Herrera obviously doesn't have their physical presence or power. But in terms of approach, if you're trying to imagine what having Ander Herrera in your centre midfield is like, think of that (but not quite as good and maybe not ever going to be. Still half as good as great is still pretty damned good...) Herrera does have good passing, particularly when the through ball is on, but he isn't the type of player who cuts the opposition apart with a 30 or 40 yard pass. The way he opens teams up is by taking the game to them and making them leave their defensive lines to stop him. That way gaps open up for his team mates, and he can play quick short sharp passes into their feet for them to take advantage of it. It's not like having a Xavi or a Pirlo or a Scholes but its not ineffective either. Bayern Munich won the treble with two, all energy, box-to-box midfielders a year ago after all...

From London yeah haha, incidentally this EasyJet flight is Delayed....typical
Do you think we paid extra for baggage allowance, or do you think we'll make him carry on?

Seriously do you think about your posts before posting? Are you still tracking the progress of that flight? Are you going to the airport next to receive him?

Definitely the carry on, extra £20 or so for hold luggage....Woodwards wife is making him her "famous spag bol" for dinner and hes staying in the spare room.

You do know im having a laugh with this and am not serious in any way shape or form.

We "replaced" ronaldo with valencia and tevez with owen. You are downplaying tevez's importance for the team. In his first season, he was great and gave us a much needed boost in his second season when he was playing for a transfer. There was a reason half of old trafford was singing for SAF to "sign em up".

That summer also gave rise to the word value and we started taking more and more punts while the quality of our first team slowly got worse and worse. Who did we beat in that UCL run? I cant remember a single good team and we got our asses handed to us in the final. Scholes and Giggs in 11/12 werent playing a major part or shouldnt have and our dependence on them really showed how far we had fallen.

Someone mentioned this earlier but that sounds a lot like Wilshere.

Lads, I am hearing that this deal has stalled because Woody is refusing to pay EasyJet for Speedy Boarding and Herrera refuses to travel any other way.

That's not a bad comparison actually. A lot of people in Spain used to regard Herrera as a sort of English midfielder because of his energy and running. As you know, in Spain they prefer to let the ball do the work: Short passes and triangles. Herrera is good at that stuff and he can play it well, but he's a slightly different breed. Far more direct than Xabi or even Thiago. He'll get the ball and seek to commit players from the centre of the park, just like Wilshere does when he's on it.

You obviously know a lot more about Herrera than me, but Gundogan and Modric both started as no.10s and got moved to the deeper role because of their hard work and willingness to track back - similar to Herrera. From the sounds of it, and looking at Herrera's tackling and interception stats, it seems that moving to a deeper role could benefit him.
