Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Herrera is better suited for the deep lying CM that we require.
Rakitic excels more in a CAM role.

Exactly. Also he is a very driven, football mad lad. It's very underrated just how much a good mindset can be the difference between a good and great player. Surely I would've loved Koke or Pogba even more, but LVG getting the best out of him will be quite a watch.

What we need for a site meltdown is Shaw and Herrera to be announced at the same time and then the last line of the announcement to read "Watch this space for more world class signings in the near future......"
Then we announce Sanchez and another midfielder  I'd love for all signings to be announced at the same time would be awesome.

Rakitic is over-hyped. If he is replacement for Xavi it is not looking good for Barcelona.

I think he was bought because they sold Fabregas and want to sell Song so they need numbers in midfield. They must buy someone as Vidal or Gundogan before his back problems to replace Xavi.
Quite. I'd see him more an Iniesta replacement than for Xavi.
Eh?!
Sign Iniesta!!

Still buzzing, and now I'm more excited to see what else Woodward has been up to especially when you consider how air tight this was.

Woody is like a snake moving through the grass at the moment by the looks of things. The Mata transfer was handled very well by him too.

Honestly, players like Herrera aren't the first name on people's wish lists, but he'd do just ask well if not better in our system. Looks like the media were right and we weren't actually in for Kroos, Fabregas and the likes.

Neither of those are world class signings, though.

What a dreadful summer that was...

...and that doesnt hold a candle to the fiasco that was last summer.
The silver lining to that dark cloud is that if we actually got last summer's targets in... Moyes may still be here.

Valencia was a great signings and on his first season, third season and after the injury of second season he was one of the best wingers in Europe and an integral part of our team. It is easy to talk now that Robben would have been a better signing but during those 3 seasons Valencia played better than Robben. It's just that in the last 2 years Valencia turned to shit and Robben became one of the best in the world but back then it wasn't that scenario.

Agreed, Rakitic is a fantastic player but has a lot to prove, he in no way has prooved himself anymore than Herrera, not saying Herrera is better but it isnt night and day.

Of course he has, Rakitic was a better player in 11/12 than Herrera is now. Let alone last season where Rakitic was top 5 or 6 players in the league.

Baffling signing. He's decent but nothing special and I'd be happy if this is the best you can do for midfield.

Another thing that thrills me is that Herrera seems genuinely chuffed to be playing for MUFC and doesnt strike me as a mercenary type at all. I think he will take to LVG and is exactly the type of CM that we should be looking at.

Well done MUFC!

Old article.

And former United assistant Phelan spoke highly of the Spain Under-23 international.

“He’s obviously a dynamic midfield player,” Phelan told BBC Sport.

“The way he plays the game, he’s more of a link player, he makes things happen as far as keeping the continuity going. At Bilbao he was quite the fulcrum of the operation.

“He’s obviously come on the radar, for specific reasons that Moyes is looking for.

“Obviously, he did put a couple of good performances in against Manchester United in Europe, so he would be on the radar from that point of view.”

As a partner to Carrick -- who I still expect will be in our first eleven under LvG -- I think he's a better fit than both Kroos and Fabregas.

Agreed...he is a CM in the mould of Modric & Gundogan.... quick feet, can dribble past a player or two, thread the through ball and put in a tackle as well. Fantastic signing!!

I'm not sure if Valencia was ever one of the best wingers in Europe, but he was certainly up there in England. I remember when he came back from the horrific injury he suffered against Rangers and he made such a difference to our play, he was brilliant. In saying that, Scholes played a big role back then with some of his long balls out to him, maybe Herrera can do the same.
