Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Agreed...he is a CM in the mould of Modric & Gundogan.... quick feet, can dribble past a player or two, thread the through ball and put in a tackle as well. Fantastic signing!!
And neither Gundogan or Modric score or assist much.

I'm not sure if Valencia was ever one of the best wingers in Europe, but he was certainly up there in England. I remember when he came back from the horrific injury he suffered against Rangers and he made such a difference to our play, he was brilliant. In saying that, Scholes played a big role back then with some of his long balls out to him, maybe Herrera can do the same.
I think that in 2011-2012 he might have been after Ronaldo the overall best winger in Europe and on 2009-2010 he surely was the best winger in England, as he was after he came back from injury on 2011-2012.

Even on United-Bayern games, Valencia and Nani gave better performances than Robben and Ribery, regardless that in the end Robben scored a screamer which eleminated us. During those years we were extremely good from the wings and Valencia was a big reason for that.

Herrera, Gundogan and Modric organize & create from the midfield.
We have had nothing coming out of the CM since Scholes retired.

I am thrilled at this signing and it is a HUGE step in the right direction by the club.

Modric is a level above at the moment, but Herrera is still very young. He can become as good as him under LVG.

Agree, and it's a reason we had to rely to heavily on width due to our lack of this type of midfielder.

Scholes said it recently that half the problem with Valencia was that now no one is pinging the ball out ahead of him from deep so he can rush onto it and break past his fullback.

Hererra mostly plays as a 10, when he was used deeper for Bilbao the season before last he had some disciplinery issues - 10 yellows and 2 reds that season. In the role I'm not convinced he's better than someone like Cazorla. He does however track back well averaging 3 tackles a game. Jose would probably like him

What's good is he will be 25 by the time he joins so we won't have to wait for him to mature and his also yet to reach his peak so his going to improve especially under Van Gaal.

Correct, but he is a CM in the mould of Modric/Gundogan and is the type of player we have needed for years.
I think we would still need another midfield signing to compliment him. A player who can dictate a game from the middle of the park. Rooney maybe might be the idea to play there if the rumours are true.

Ridiculous how people are comparing him to Modirc and Gundogan. Hes completely different. He isnt the kind of player who is used to playing in any other system than a 3- man midfield. he is ideal for that. I cant remember him playing in a 2 man midfield and doing well, though he is capable of it.

His strengths are that he can do a little bit of everything, he gets stuck-in, passes the ball reasonably well and can get past a player as well. But he's a high energy player, not a player like Modric and Gundogan who can sit on the ball for a few seconds before picking a great pass. thats not Ander Herrrera. clearly people havent seen him play.

He's nearly 25, hardly a young player any more. He can still improve but there won't be any rapid development...

I would like a CDM signed as well however Rooney would be a nightmare in the CM but thats a matter for another thread :)

Will this be like the van gaal situation where everyone knows its done but the club take years to announce it

He definitely needs a playmaker next to him. Not carrick, someone who is more mobile, other wise his high tempo game will be a waste.

Neither of those are world class signings, though.
No they arent but one day they will be and it saves face, cant exactly say " look at our shiny new toys! oh and well be getting some proper good signings too."

Valencia was a great signings and on his first season, third season and after the injury of second season he was one of the best wingers in Europe and an integral part of our team. It is easy to talk now that Robben would have been a better signing but during those 3 seasons Valencia played better than Robben. It's just that in the last 2 years Valencia turned to shit and Robben became one of the best in the world but back then it wasn't that scenario.

It was a horrible summer because we sold ronaldo and let tevez go, and started the decline in our side's quality.

The point for me with Valencia is that he needs space to run past defenders. Since our game slowed down from midfield his misery began as he isn't good at beating defenders by technique. This once again shows what genuis Paul Scholes was as a player and how much we miss him dictating our play!
