Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

What's the bets Van Gaal was expected Hector and Woodward has screwed up?

If we can atleast sort the LB position out, along with another CM player and a wide player, I do feel with no European football we could be much fresher than our rivals. Liverpool I could see being the more vulnerable ones of the current top 4

If we signed Herrera, another CM, a left back and a winger then Liverpool would be far more vulnerable than us. As would Arsenal. That would be an amazing window.

Exactly. The beeb are almost certainly doing the same.

I'll believe this is something concrete if/when one of the broadsheet journos with a reputation for having solid contacts at the club puts his name to this. At the moment, their silence is deafening.

Why would the BBC do that?

And if the BBC were doing that why would they risk their reputation on the matter by not including 'according to sources in Spain' (which I don't think I've ever seen them do) if the BBC are writing that article, they're very sure whats going to happen.

Good grief, some cafites are just hard to please. We're signing a proper CM for the first time in 6 years and you lot are complaining about fees.

Dear lawd, let this be true :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

This fecker was my biggest mupper dream after Thiago last season and I was very unhappy that we didn't sign him. But better later than never.

So - in Kevin's own words - I am very delighted that we are signing this scintillating player.

Only thing that's making me nervous is lack of mention of the Bridgewater Hospital and no sightings of David Gill at the airport

Instantly better and balanced. You could even put Rooney in the New CM position and it would look very decent against almost any team in the prem, where we would come unstuck is against sides like Chelsea and City who have big units in the middle who really put the work in. We definitely need another world class midfielder to join Herrera, personally im drooling at the prospect of William partnering him.

Sadly I think this signing would signal the end of our interest in Vidal, Herrera seems to be a similar yet not as good nor as seasoned version of him. I hope Woody understands that this needs to be the beginning of a spree rather than a "this will do" to fans.

Manchester United are in advanced talks with Athletic Bilbao over the transfer of Ander Herrera.

Sky sources understand United are prepared to match the £28million buyout clause in the midfielder’s contract.

United are aiming to get the deal - which would see Herrera sign a four-year contract - done by the end of this month as the buyout clause raises to £32m after July 1.

Herrera was the lynchpin of Bilbao's midfield last season as they finished in an impressive fourth place in La Liga.

He scored five goals in the campaign, but despite being one of the most impressive performers in domestic football, he is yet to break in to the Spain team.

David Moyes was reportedly targeting Herrera, 24, last summer, but failed to land the central midfielder.

His successor as Manchester United boss, Lous van Gaal, looks set to pull off the deal as he begins rebuilding the squad.

Herrera was born in Bilbao but came through the ranks at Real Zaragoza before joining his hometown club in 2011 on a five-year contract.

So we have to buy defensive midfielder as well. Carrick can be relied upon but we have to build a new and younger side.

This is good to read. Could we see a revival of Cleverley besides Herrera and a defensive midfielder in a midfield three? Would that have enough creative prowess? Also, would that provide us goals from the midfield? A few pages ago, somebody said that he is not good at taking shots and scoring goals.

Nah not Cleverley. Need a proper creative player in the midfield. As much as Sneijder has been poor in the WC, it's that kind of calibre of player we're talking or at least the comparable role you should be thinking of.

If we don't sign anyone for that role I expect Mata/Kagawa to slot in there.

You'd think the BBC would make it clear that it's not their info in the same way The Telegraph did though. They don't mention "Spanish sources" on their website, they're just reporting it straight. That'd seem like either slightly poor form or some kind of certainty in what they're reporting...

I repeat again BBC don't post stories before getting confirmation from the club itself. Anybody who thinks that BBC is reporting only on Spanish Reports without confirming it with the club is extremely wrong.

I don't know why but I feel Ramires would be excellent for us.

The BBC report is definitely not based on any rumours that originated from Spain. They would have checked with one (if not all) of the involved parties before publishing that article on their website.

How do you know that?

They post a shit-load of rumours every day. Admittedly, that's in their "rumour mill" section but still, they're obviously not averse to running speculative stories without getting them confirmed by clubs first.

By the way lets do some digging, heres a "every touch" montage vs Madrid.

Presumably because this latest bout of excitement was prompted by stories in the Spanish press.

The only stuff I can find online in the British press are articlues alluding to the reports in Spain.

The BBC tend to not follow like sheep, I'm surprised the Guardian haven't picked up on it though. Still, the Beeb are probably our most reliable source and they don't mention the Spanish reports.

Edit: Admittedly they don't mention much else either, just more to follow.

Cheers. A Spanish midfielder without a senior international cap is a different proposition.
Not really if you consider the players they have. Thiago Alcantara for example has only 5 senior caps.

Herrera is a top player. If we get him we have done a good business and we have fixed half of our midfield. I also think that players like Mata, Kagawa and even Carrick would love to play with him.

We need to get a CAF ITK, we should all donate monies to fund a mass muppet to stalk Manchester and the airports etc, we can pay for a little tent while he waits all night  Or she.....

Perhaps @ManUtd43vr needs something to take his mind off toasters..
Would you give it a rest please! It is just an innocuous thing! I am a bad bullshitter. Not sure I can be a good ITK. Maybe, you can try your hand at it!

But isn't that just them scraping stories for all the newspapers?

This. Nice to see things are being run right. Plus who knows what other surprises are in store for us? The summer will be more exciting if there's the possibility deals appearing this suddenly.

Indeed. This could turn out to be a good summer with us actually making good signings, City losing Yaya and pool losing Suarez.

No they wouldn't, why would you claim that? That's how idiot myth's are started, it's simply that they don't rehash empty sources, they wont necessarily contact each party, that's rubbish, however I'd imagine they weigh up the origin of the source.

If you actually read my post I clearly started they check with at least one, not all, of the involved parties - which they 100% definitely do.

The movement and feet he displays at 1:10 in that clip is brilliant. Being honest, I didn't think he was that kind of player but that's nice to see.

One of my best mates has interned at both BBC and FA.

Also there's a difference between the rumor mill section and reporting it themselves. Even our official site used to have a rumor mill section, doesn't mean that whatever they post on the site isn't true.

Exactly. The beeb are almost certainly doing the same.

The BBC aren't in the habit of doing things. If they were just reporting the reports, they'd have stated it like the Telegraph did.

To be fair, the Spanish reports are enough for me. They were also proven good last year.

I think arsenal always find a way of making the top 4, it seems LVG does want a LB another CM and a wide player. If we manage to tick the right boxes, we are playing basically one game a week, as we have no european football, and with a good start to the PL fixtures, we could hit the ground running
