Just so we're clear. There hasn't been any new news since the stuff from last night, right?

I mean we heard those "reports coming out of Bilbao" but since then, nothing new. The stuff on the beeb abd SSN is almost certainly just English press parroting those same reports.

When the BBC put it up its usually as good as done.

If we seal this deal by the end of today then I think the scales are starting to tip back in Woodward's favour. Exciting player with potential, signed in June with little to no media coverage in the previous days.

Maybe last year was just manic cos both Woodward and Moyes were thrown in at the deep end.

If LVG believes he is worth it I would defiitely wait until January for Strootman and focus on defence and wingers for the rest of the summer.

Somebody post that Miguel Herrera celebrating gif, it applies here if nothing because of the last name

Just thought that needed clarifying as a lot of the comments here give the impression this has been announced.

BBC, The Guardian and Sky Sports are about as reliable as you can get in England though.

He's more mobile and quick in the tackle (Fletcher) than positional and waiting on interceptions (Carrick). They should complement eachother well since Carricks had good partnerships with Fletcher/Cleverley in the past. His 3.1 tackles per game last season are higher than anyone on our team.

He's better on the ball than those two ever were though. I know it's a different team and league, but 1.6 key passes per game would put him only behind Mata and Rooney in our team.

If we could add Strootman it'd be perfect. I guess we might wait for January to do that though.

Really? They've never been slow to repeat random rumours from other news sites in the past. Don't thnk their sources are any more reliable tbh.

I would be more convinced if some of the broadsheets went with his. Their journos do have good contacts within the club. The fact they haven't means this should be taken with a large pinch of salt IMO.

Rio leaves and the leaks stop, Coincidence?

Probably not, I think the way he was shown the door suggested that he was at least partly responsible.

I know next to nothing about this lad, but I'm excited that we look to be signing a player at last, and a midfielder to boot.

Delighted with this. Gutted that we missed out on him last season and I am glad that we went back for him this season. I won't say I've seen him in too many games, but the games that I have, he has been excellent. Really needed an energetic midfielder and if the rumours are true, we will get one in Herera. The fee is high, but in general, the fees are all over the place. I read that he lowered his wage demands last year in order to join United, and if the reported 50k a week is true, it appears that he has done so this year too. He is also missing out on European football to join us (as Bilbao made it to the Champions League this season) - this, on top of his low (reported) wage demands proves that he wants to play for United.

I love the fact that it has (almost) come out of the blue as well. If we do get him, great job Woodward.

If we can atleast sort the LB position out, along with another CM player and a wide player, I do feel with no European football we could be much fresher than our rivals. Liverpool I could see being the more vulnerable ones of the current top 4

That's their gossip column. They explicitly state what the gossip is with the respective source.

This is a proper article by the BBC. We're going to sign the guy.

Why does everyone keep spouting January when speaking about Strootman? Is he only due back from injury then or is there some contractual side to it?

BBC don't put rumours on their site without actually asking the club first.

Strootman and / or William to complete our midfield over the next 2 season to replace aging players would be ideal. Maybe Strootman as soon as January and William 2015/16. Hope Sporting can keep hold of him as we most likely won't spend that amount of money this window too.

Think he's not due back from injury for a couple of months so possibly too much of a risk to buy him without seeing him play.

Can't find anything about this on the Guardian and Sky Sports are constantly posting rumours they've nicked off the web.

Yeah sorry, not up on The Guardian. Still though, it's a proper BBC report. They do indeed post rumors, but this is a proper report and I'd be very surprised if it wasn't happening now.

It's more that there could be concerns about spending 30m on a player who hasn't yet recovered from an injury and has been out for a while.

A more defensively orientated midfielder beside him like Carvahlo.
So we have to buy defensive midfielder as well. Carrick can be relied upon but we have to build a new and younger side.

From what i gather Herrera is a good energetic box to box midfielder who really puts in a shift. Typical Spanish technique combined with a bit of grit. I imagine someone of his style could play along side any type of midfield partner as he is quite flexible
This is good to read. Could we see a revival of Cleverley besides Herrera and a defensive midfielder in a midfield three? Would that have enough creative prowess? Also, would that provide us goals from the midfield? A few pages ago, somebody said that he is not good at taking shots and scoring goals.

I don't think I can remember the BBC saying a player was going to sign for someone and then them not signing.

Strootman is out injured until Oct and we do not want to pay wages from July and he should get fit before we pay a figure around £30m

Last year I read Herrera referred to as the "Spanish Steven Gerrard". Hope that hasn't ruined peoples celebrations.

We need to get a CAF ITK, we should all donate monies to fund a mass muppet to stalk Manchester and the airports etc, we can pay for a little tent while he waits all night  Or she.....

Perhaps @ManUtd43vr needs something to take his mind off toasters..

Dunno if you're being serious or not. BBC are as reliable as they come.

Ramsey was an exceptional case, even the club posted it on the official site.

The BBC are seen as the most reliable because they will not post anything unless they have spoken to the clubs and been told. You never know but looks like this could be as good as done.
