Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

I wouldn't mind 2 Herrera's in our midfield, the Mexico lad - Hector Herrera looks class too.

The wages being reported are €3m net. That's roughly £100k/week pre-tax, which is not excessive by PL standards.

If the Marca are to be believe the wages are either £57,000 a week or £46,0000 a week depending on if the 3m he's rumoured to get a year are pounds or euros
Yeah, it's the wages (I can't imagine them being much higher than that) that'll still make this a sensible deal despite the high fee.
I'm so excited by this. A good player with hunger.
Kagawa could be very happy about this, finally someone who anticipates his movement and gives him the ball between the lines.

Totally agree. Someone who thinks as quickly as him and, crucially, isn't afraid to play first-time passes into tight spaces.
It's all about trust. Players trusting their own ability to control the ball anywhere, at any height and speed, and players trusting their team mates to do the same. As an example the way that every player trusted Scholes to control any pass they gave to him. It just allows the team to play properly, without fear or caution.

I should italicize to indicate sarcasm. Or something.

Back to Herrera, fantastic bit of news if true. Two more signings (a leftback and another CM) and we are good to go.

I hope the news is true, BBC reporting it does make me allot happier the rumours are true.

I think 5 more signings after herrari will do it, possibly do this over a 2 year period, like 2 fullbacks right and left, a CB, another CM and a wide player. Maybe we can do it over a 2 year period, overall 6 players we do need, we get herrari that is 5 more players we need. We won't get them all this summer, but possibly 2 summers

So? Barca wanted to get rid, whereas Bilbao really don't need to get rid off any of their star players.
I'm pretty sure every Bilbao players has a huge buy out clause since they have to rely heavily on youth for players due to their basque policy.

We should give them Zaha and Bebe on loan for the year. Could see them doing well there, especially Bebe.
Hehe...

Well ofc they do, but that doesn't mean that they can't decide to sell if they want to get rid. And it's not just Bilbao, most Spanish players (if not all) have release clauses.

Fabregas was a completely different issue, Barca were basically trying to get rid off him almost since the day they bought him from Arsenal.

I think if we sign Herrera now, we'll probably go in for Strootman in January. That way we can bump off Fellaini and Anderson.

In Spain €36m probably represents about 5 years TV money for them

Delighted to hear it's happening. Looks a solid buy if not spectacular but I think he'd do a great job in Van Gaal's system/s.

I haven't watched enough of him but from what I have seen, I assume he'll likely be the mobile, hard-working attacking midfielder in Van Gaals trio in midfield? Wouldn't be surprised (should we fail to land another midfielder) if he puts Mata beside him as the one to push up behind Van Persie.

Not considering our midfielders, if you had to pick one midfielder to play besides Herrera, what qualities would you seek to have in his midfield partner? Or is he a midfielder who is comfortable with 3 in the middle?

While this would be an excellent signing, let's not stop here guys. We need at least one more CM, and I'm not including Strootman, I mean now.

Despite reading the same thing 3 times... the point about Herrera being the start of a rebuild which stretches over a year or 2 is a good one. We all no we need to improve in 4 or 5 positions but to do it all in one go could have the adverse effect.

Herrera is a good start.

A more defensively orientated midfielder beside him like Carvahlo.

Yes I spelt the name wrong, I noticed. I'm in my iphone so spelling is going to be shit

Damn, some good news at last? Liking the discreet way we've gone about this transfer if it goes through. Woody is learning, slowly.

From what i gather Herrera is a good energetic box to box midfielder who really puts in a shift. Typical Spanish technique combined with a bit of grit. I imagine someone of his style could play along side any type of midfield partner as he is quite flexible

Get in!

What's great (apart from the obvious joy of signing a midfielder) is that the journo's didn't have a clue. Woke up this morning and the deal is done.

van Gaal runs a tight ship. And Herrera is perfect for us.

It was amazingly silent, even more so than under SAF. Good news at last indeed, he's exactly what we need.

Unless he arrives for his medical behind a white sheet, Wordward still has a lot to learn.

This will be a great signing, Herrera is a top midfielder with all the attributes to succeed in the premier league, seems like a real team player so I can understand why Van Gaal wants him.

That is what I said 2 to 3 summers, my only worry, is? How long it's going to take for him to settle, it helps he's playing under an experience manager who knows how to handle big players. I am hoping we can sign a LB a CM and a wide player, as we need speed in our game

I am hoping we can move players on, like young and cleverly which would be a start

Hopefully we get it done this week. Wouldn't want another Fellaini scenario as his buy-out clause raises by about £4million come July 1st if those reports are true.

This. Nice to see things are being run right. Plus who knows what other surprises are in store for us? The summer will be more exciting if there's the possibility deals appearing this suddenly.

A midfielder. An actual midfielder.:eek:

Not the biggest name, but who cares, if LVG thinks he's the best suited to his system, then I trust him. We can't stop here though, still need a partner for him as well as a LB at the very least. Great start!

Just so we're clear. There hasn't been any new news since the stuff from last night, right?

I mean we heard those "reports coming out of Bilbao" about a move being close but since then, we've heard nothing new. The stuff on the beeb and SSN is almost certainly just English press parroting those same reports.

Just thought that needed clarifying as a lot of the comments here give the impression this has been announced.
