If the Beeb are reporting it then surely it's a done deal?

No time to waste - to the Strootman thread!

Anyone else a bit worried by this? Strange how our targets haven't changed a year on, especiallyones which aren't particularly overwhelming..
You mean that we supposedly wasn't interested in Cesc or Kroos? Hmmm...Moyes wasn't prepared to pay his release clause, so if we're signing him, it has very little to do with previous targets and more to do with LvG seeing him as integral to his plans.

FWIW, I'm a bit of a fan. So I'm excited if true.

Manchester United are close to completing a deal to sign midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.

The Old Trafford club failed in an attempt to buy Herrera, 24, on transfer deadline day last summer.

New United boss Louis van Gaal has revived the transfer, which could be completed as early as Tuesday.

Herrera, part of Spain's Olympic squad in 2012, would become Van Gaal's first signing since he replaced David Moyes as manager.

In one fell swoop, our team is looking so much better.

Carrick - Herrera
Januzaj - Mata - Kagawa
RVP
Another CM would be the icing on the cake. Then Depay, Shaw and an experienced CB.

I'm gonna go the whole hog: Let's get Sanchez.

That escalated quickly! Did Woody participate in some "how-to-keep-a transfer-secret" workshops?

I hope we sign him, I haven't seen him too often, but the times I have seen him he has always impressed me. I would also be very interested once we sign him in his own version of what went wrong last time we tried to sign him

This is brilliant news

Carrick is good next to a player who's a bit more mobile, gets around the pitch and is good on the tackle with 3.1 per game (better than anyone in our team). He's no slouch on the ball either, 5 goals and 5 assists last season, with 5 long balls and 1.6 key passes per game (only Rooney/Mata average more in our team).

He's a much better Cleverley. Would be great if we can bring in Strootman too at some point.

I think van Gaal going in changed how we do business. No leaks, just down to it. Ogden said we ruled him out to him so I think some of the others we've been told we've 'ruled out' could be ruled back in again.

If reports were right about the medical today. When will the deal be officially announced normally?

If this goes through i doubt it as anything to do with LVG.

So If Van Gaal didn't want him who did? Woodward? Doesn't it seem slightly odd then that the Kroos and Fabregas deals were both Vetoed by LVG or are you saying that Woodward likes to veto his own deals?

This is phenomenal. Sweet Ander, sweet sweet Ander.

I'm just imagining the anger at all the people who make those stupid muppet 11s having to scramble around to include Herrera.

Never seen him play and I don't trust Moyes considering he was a target of him but then again didn't Fergie give a list of targets before he left? The fact that we're signing a CM has me excited but considering Chelsea got Fabregas for a similar figure I hope the feck this guy is any good, although I do trust LVG.

Since this was done so under the radar what are the chances that we're in for anyone we've been linked with? Garay, Sanchez, Depay..etc

I should italicize to indicate sarcasm. Or something.

Back to Herrera, fantastic bit of news if true. Two more signings (a leftback and another CM) and we are good to go.
Not sure about CM, but at the very least a lb!

I bet we pay more than Chelsea did for Fabregas.
Well, on the bright side, Herrera might be a better long term solution, but thats pretty much it:)

Kagawa could be very happy about this, finally someone who anticipates his movement and gives him the ball between the lines.

If the deal goes through I hope it's a sign of things to come under Van Gaal where we do our transfer business quietly and secretly like we did the vast majority of the time under Fergie. We seemed to be leaking everything last year which made us look daft when everything collapsed.

I bet his wages are lower than Fabregas'.

If the Marca are to be believe the wages are either £57,000 a week or £46,0000 a week depending on if the 3m he's rumoured to get a year are pounds or euros
