Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

anyways, I think this is one player who would instantly improve us, so we should just throw money at him.

It's not as simple as that. You can't expect a 21 year old midfielder to adapt to a new culture and immediately turn around our fortunes

Yeh, anyone who pins their hopes on Herrera turning our season around if he were to arrive in January has no clue about football. And well yeh, he isn't joining so there is no real point.

Inter are more likely to be in the Champions League next season than us, why would he leave?
How is that? Inter are 4 points off the 3rd place Napoli, which up to February on paper have 2 tougher fixtures - one home at Inter and another away to Hellas Verona (doing good so far).

Inter on other hand play away to Napoli, home to Milan and away to Lazio during Christmas and NY and is far more possible to open a bigger gap come February.

On the other hand we have 3-4 matches coming that we can get back to 4th if we take them all.

Kovacic is 19 and sure he wont change our season but he is performing at a very high level for Inter and will be a stark improvement to the absolute garbage we currently have.

Inter just bought him (less than a year ago) for 15M euros... you know the kind of money required it would take to get him? FM tactics don't work in real life.

true but so will a lot of players we need. He seems like an excellent CM with his powerful dribbling and incisive passing and since he plays in an inferior team and league, maybe if we throw the money, Inter and himself could be convinced on the move. At any point I do not see us getting Fabregas or any other player who plays for a big club, this guy seems kind of "getable".

Of course not. He's a good player but just doing a bit of research raises doubts about him compared to others. I'd like us to think before we make another farce of a transfer window.

I understand your concerns and I agree that we have to hit with the next couple of signings in midfield. But, for me, he is a sure thing, he is a really wonderful player. He has everything in his game, he is a real player with great passing, vision and is good at everything.

Apparently off now:

Manchester United target Ander Herrera is keen on extending his stay at Athletic Bilbao, reports Spanish newspaper AS.
The 24-year-old central midfielder, who was reportedly close to joining Manchester United on deadline day of last summer's transfer window, has again reiterated his desire to stay in Spain.
Athletic Bilbao star Herrera, who is a first-team regular at San Mames, is apparently still attracting interest from Manchester United.
David Moyes is desperate to strengthen his midfield options in the January transfer window, as his side are currently languishing in ninth spot in the Premier League.
Manchester United midfielders Marouane Fellaini, Tom Cleverley and Anderson have come under heavy criticism this season as the Red Devils have struggled for form.
Herrera, who is valued at £30million, is said to be high up on Moyes' transfer list, however he has indicated to the Premier League champions that he is happy to stay in Spain.
When asked if he was keen on moving to Old Trafford, Herrera told AS:
"It's something I'm not going to talk about anymore as it does not help.
"I explained what I had. I'm fine here, I've always said, and will continue at Athletic.
"Yes [I do plan to extend my contract]. It is a question that you asked me when I spoke to United.
"I am really happy at Athletic. I have over two and a half years left on my contract."

If we pay the money, he'll join. Situation hasn't changed in that respect. Of course, if we don't, he naturally has to look after his own career and I'd imagine he'll sign a new contract if nothing happens.

Of course he's going to say that after how difficult things were for him at the club after our interest/bid.

"I'm fine here" hardly means a transfer is off. I'm sure he'll come if we agree a deal with the club. Realistically, no other top club is ever gonna have a place for him, are they? Especially at the price we're talking.

I have a feeling Moyes will go in for William Carvalho instead of Herrera in January and will be dreaming of signing Barkley in the summer to have an up and coming midfield pairing of Carvalho and Barkley for next year....but Moyes has not been successful in the transfer market yet so remains to be seen if he can land his priorities

It's not really off. It's the standard response from any footballer. You keep both doors open.

Yep, I'd imagine if we don't come back for him in January or end of season he'll sign a new deal and that will be that.

His form this season has been pretty terrible. It's not really helped matters that he's been pushed back into an AM role (he started off as an AM in 11/12). He's simply not got the passing ability at present to unlock defenses. Nor does he have the goal scoring record to really be viable in that role, 2 league goals for Bilbao since he joined them in 2011. Bit of an odd call for him to be playing there to be frank.

William Carvalho? Thats a bit random. Because we've been linked with him once a few weeks ago?

I noticed that you've been including Everton Ribeiro in your wishlists too.

Well if we still do want him, I would expect us to match his release clause either tomorrow or Thursday as there would be no point waiting any longer than that. So I guess we will know very soon if that interest is dropped or not.

Aye, no point fecking around when we know that they won't respond to brinkmanship. If we are doing it get it done.

He's not been a certain starter this season has he? If we still want him there's no reason not to test the waters with a bid lower than his clause. We could have/should been negotiating for a while, no need to leave it till the window opens.

Don't think we'll go back in for him. We had our chance in the summer but after spending £27.5m on fellaini, I think they'd rather go for a more sure thing, rather then another risk like him. He'd be a good signing but probably not worth 30m, and I think he only had space for one of those risk signings and they want to make a statement of intent with our next signing. That is, unless they accept less then the release clause which is unlikely.

Great performance today against Real Madrid.

I wonder if we'll go in for him again next summer.

Like I said in another thread.

I doubt we'd go for him unless we willing to pay buyout clause. Which we could have done in January. Bilbao won't sell unless we do that.

He's a cracking player, and I'd be delighted if the club moved for him again. His release clause (which reportedly increases to 40m euros in the summer) would probably be prohibitive though, sadly.

He had a great 60 minutes or so he fizzled out towards the end but I like what I saw. He showed a great bit of skill to get away from two Real players, he isn't afraid to get stuck in either. I think he would do quite well here, unfortunately I doubt we stump up his release clause.

Maybe we'd be less antsy about the fee given that it wouldn't be a Club record any longer? I seem to remember Woodward mentioning that in his UWS interview. I've always said I'd like him here, aside from his skill on the ball he seems to have the right attitude and tenacity. Seems he's hit some form again after an overstated but slow-ish start to the season. He wasn't nearly as poor as was made out, just not influential enough either.

Watched him against Athletico the other day and he seemed to be having a good game. I've liked this guy from the beginning. His passing is smart, he's energetic and he gets stuck in. Good player.

Sadly think this ship has sailed. The chance to get him was in the summer, I can't see it making any business sense the longer it goes on and the apparent increase in his release clause.

It's not really an increase in his release clause though is it?
Iirc last summer it was £36m, now people are saying it will be €40m this summer?
