Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

And Ander does?

I was being partially sarcastic. Banega's attitude has improved massively. Obviously they're Different players, different styles, etc., but Banega's attitude is a slight problem. He can be very lazy, he definitely reminds me of Riquelme. Herrera has a brilliant attitude. Between the two players, I'd have Banega because he has more quality. Dictates play, tackles well, and fits the profile and skill set of the midfielder we desperately lack. However, I don't think we'll even bid for him... United don't need another player who is lazy and is inconsistent.

I agree (except about lazy, he's never that) and thats why I wouldn't be okay paying his top value for him, just like I wouldnt be ok with paying Ander's buyout - but in terms of adding Banega to the squad it'd be a no brainer. On his day Banega is as good as any other CM we could realistically get, with the likes of Fabregas unavailable. But for various reasons he's also had periods where he hasnt been great. For now he's back in CM after being used behind the striker last season. Against Bilbao he scored a penalty, won 8 tackles and passed the ball around as he does. Far more impressive than Ander thats for sure.

Honestly, you're crusade to belittle Ander Herrera is becoming almost obsessive.
"I am sure there is potentially a really top player there. But maybe not the new Iniesta who will solve all our problems and must be bought at any price"

I think Herrera's one of those players who will really step up his game if he leaves Bilbao, especially to a bigger club. He's almost stalling there, same as Muniain. (though I don't know how he's been getting on this year).

I'm a big fan of Herrera but his buyout value is OTT. I do think he'd have been a more "natural" and complimentary fit next to Carrick, so if his acquisition created a synergy (the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts) effect, that money might have been very well spent.

:(

He wasn't even that poor in the first half. Made a couple of good tackles, one good through ball that I remember and a decent cut-back from the right that should have resulted in a goal but the shot was fired wildly over the bar by Banega (iirc). Think he would be more impactful deeper because he likes to press and win the ball back.

To be honest, I am referencing your comments over the past month or so across a few threads. Perhaps your remarks were more aimed against other posters as opposed to the player, questioning them jumping on a bandwagon with little foundation, which is fair enough I suppose.

Sounds like a match made in heaven. It was interesting that despite Herrera insisting on playing against Real Valverde chose to very publicly display him as on his way out. As the article points out, it's not just Herrera but Benat struggling to perform so you have to wonder whether it is them or the manager that is the problem.

Fellaini-Herrera-Ando would probably be the most confused CM in football history.

Bilbao had a good win at the weekend and are 1 point off 4th now...so they are going well.

I really think he'd be excellent in our midfield. Perhaps £30m is a bit steep, but not that far off what I'd say his value is. He's a good all-rounder with typical Spanish technique.

Watching Arsenal v Dortmund last night, all I could think about was how out of place Fellaini would look in such a game.

He didn't play, which makes you wonder if they're trying to build a team without him.
I'd like us to go back in for him in January, but doubt we will.

We're not getting him for anything below his release clause unless we wait til his contract expires.

Yeah, tight buggers are those Athletic negotiators.

Wishful thinking on my part that if he's out of the team for half a season, they'd not turn it down. But they let Llorente rot on the bench for a full year.

Llorente was a bit different though. He was quite outspoken about wanting to leave, trained badly and generally acted like a prick to get a move. No one has reported anything similar with Herrera. They only ever sell at market rates when they want rid and it looks like the manager would rather get 20M+ than have him sticking around.

I would say it would indicate we have the most confused manager in history. Cleverley and Herrera with Carrick behind them though...

I really hope you're right. Would love him here.

I agree Carrick, Cleverley, Herrera and Kagawa could throw up some good CM trio options,

I hope that the time we've got until January will allow Moyes to assess him better and maybe give him the confidence to pay a little more for him.

is he doing enough to deserve a place at United though?
Herrera? He's better then anyone else we have there bar Carrick, him being out of form for Bilbao (when pretty much all of their best players are as well) doesn't change that.
Really hope we go back in for him in January, I feel like Bilbao might even consider a much lower and more reasonable price because he's not really in the new managers plans long term clearly (maybe he thinks he'll end up leaving so he's making a side that doesn't need him?).
Anyways, you could argue that the only midfielder who does enough on a consistent basis to deserve a place at united is Carrick.

The same Bilbao that froze Llorente out until his contract ended out of spite, rather than cash in? I doubt it, sadly.

Didn't Llorente just have a year left when he was frozen out? If Herrera has 2+ years left on his current deal then he won't freeze him out when he could cash in on him.
Aye, but they're in no way going to let him go cheap, it'll be release or nothing with them. His contract is until summer 2016, IIRC.
