You are on drugs if you think he's anything like Scholes maybe in height but otherwise I'm struggling. I like Herrera but he's been underwhelming since joining. The fact you stated vs Preston and Cambridge games means something surely? He has shown nothing to suggest he can dictate play for us. His choice of passing is erratic he does have a good touch but so do a lot of players his passing is very limited. Good player to have but we need better in my opinion.
He's not like Scholes at all, as young Scholes was a goal-scoring #10 and older Scholes sat back and dictated play from deeper. He's an energetic central midfielder who is good at passing and retaining the ball in dangerous areas. Drove the team forward until his sending off yesterday. I don't see how his passing is 'very limited'.

Don't talk bollocks, he just needs to learn to stay on his feet. The first yellow he went sliding in for no reason, the guy was on the floor!. 2nd was more unlucky but he has a habit of running forward too quickly and misjudging the opponent coming forward. Having a partner who's more defensive won't change how he plays.

That is called pressing. Stop blaming the player, any god referee with sense wouldnt have given a yellow there. Clattenburg and Cakir are obviously not in that category.

Now that Ander is out it surely has to be Morgan's time to shine.
Right?

His long-passing is average at best.

Agree totally he is great at taking a change of direction on his first touch and little 5-10 yard passes. But through balls, long balls are not his forte. And he's not good enough to be our playmaker.

Need to appeal his red, how you can card someone for slipping in that manner is insane. He's going forward with both feet because he's trying to slow his body down so that he doesn't go in for the tackle. You can see the ground gives way and he ends up sliding forward on both feet (which are level, not one in front of the other - as would be with a tackle) whilst trying to stop and retain balance, absolutely awful refeering.

Can't it was too yellows. Unfortunately.

I think it's more his technique/consistency than actual ability - there's been at least two times this season when he accurately hit a really long pass through to get Rashford in on goal. I think one was against Northamapton?

Part of technical ability is the ability to produce it over and over again. Take Scholes his cross field passes. If you were to video or watch videos of him his body shape and technique is the same a bit like a top dozen pro golfers swing (Rory Mc especially). Most players don't have this in their locker. Scholes Pirlo Koeman Veron Becks all did that's part of what made them great. Herrera doesn't have this he is like Modric in his passing range (short quick passes) though just not as good (in his overall play as Modric) doesn't make him a bad player as he's a good player but not good enough to be our 6 consistently in my opinion. But doesn't mean he can't play that position well in some games. But ideally we need to buy to improve this position and it may and probably will mean Herrera sits out or moves on eventually.

It wasn't for no reason, before he went to slide in him, Pogba or Lingard made a shocking error and lost a ball in the build up, so the counter needed to be stopped. In the end it was harsh from the ref as he pulled out and the burnley players acted like he got his legs broken, could be somehow justified from the ref as an attempt to stop the counter... second one was a nonsense very harsh for a second yellow, he slipped and if I remember correctly it wasn't in a dangerous area...

if anything that cnut Flanagan should have been sent of for a clear handball as a result of a second yellow card, the most refs would have give that after they harshly sent off a player for two minor tackles or even if Herrera wasn't sent off..

I can sense Clattenburg have an irrational dislike for Spanish players..

Harsh red card, but he put himself in a difficult situation when he misjudged the tackle that led to his first yellow.

Needs to learn to control himself at times, but he brings so much energy and guile to our midfield.

Herrera/Pogba in CM against teams we should beat is a really good base. Good matches against Leicester, Stoke and Burnley.

I see you already got answered, but i just want to add that straight red is 3 matches, while 2 yellow is 1 match ban.
Unless some rules changed recently.
Good that it's only one. Put Carrick vs Swansea and will be good.

I agree it didn't warrant a yellow but he knew he fecked up, look at his face after he makes contact. You can't slide in and touch people anymore, you're just asking for trouble.

Once on a yellow he must be more careful, you have to act more cautious especially with a petty referee that can't wait to send you off.

He just said that the way he positions himself to receive the ball and knows where wants to pass is like Scholes, not that he is of Scholes' quality. He's also good at making poor tackles; very Scholes-esque.

Height is far less comparable than what you were criticizing the quoted poster for.

"Aye, he's got lovely ball control and he always seems to use his first touch to set himself for the next pass - he reminds me of Scholes in that aspect of his play. Reads the game exceptionally well, and is good enough to basically dictate the pace of the game. I remember around the time of the FA cup games vs Preston and Cambridge thinking that he stood out a mile as being a very dynamic player in a team that was unbearably ponderous and impotent. I wanted the team to be built around him at the time, and am I ecstatic that after last season, he has found his mojo. That he is just so committed is the icing on the cake."

It's not what I'm reading from his post @Organic Potatoes !

Well, you need to work on your reading comprehension then.

So you think he is saying he's like Scholes in his first touch only but not in the way he reads the game or could dictate our play even though he goes on to talk about Herrera dictating play for us? If so you need to work on more than your comprehension.

Ok, he might have deserved his first card with signs of excessive force, but the situation for second yellow was accidental and ref's decision to send him off was harsh. It's all because he's being asked to mop up the midfield and more which isn't his game. He's a perfect player for executing high pressing, not for carrying out well timed tackles inside our own half. Asking him to play as a defensive midfielder is a big misunderstanding.

He's a superb player. He has excellent technique, plays with a very high intensity and is a very intelligent footballer. If anything, it's pretty mental how poor he was last season, but I'm glad he's turning it on this season. Possibly our best player so far.
I still remember his Bilbao performance against us and how good he looked in the early part of LVGs reign and was delighted that we were getting the complete package as a CMer. Passing, technique, work rate, intelligence and composure under pressure. Lots of good players haven't had the chance to shine in a difficult period for the club, Schneiderlin included.

Just the Swansea game. Carrick might come back in, Morgan? Fellaini? God help us Rooney.

carrick will probably play for us on thursday so unlikely that he would feature against swansea. Its probably going to be Fellaini Pogba i reckon

Mou may give Carrick limited minutes on Thursday with a view to starting him at Swansea. Personally I would rest Pogba, play Morgan and Ander behind Mata on Thursday, if Morgan impresses play him Sunday as well.

Still my player of the season, and I really hope the red doesn't change his approach to the game. We've been crying out for bite in the midfield for ages.

The foul for the first yellow card was probably a bit needless but the second one was extremely harsh indeed.

He's our version of Lucas Leiva.

A bang average hacker who supporters want to be convinced is very good because he puts in a shift. Only Lucas Leiva didn't cost £30 fecking million.

What a bizarre post.

Didn't have a great half but the post above is ban worthy. Exactly the sort of stupid comment I was referring to in the unpopular opinions thread.

I agree, he´s very average. He does show more aggression and intensity, i believe this is the reason he´s been hyped by our fans these last weeks.
