Herrera has been my favorite United player since he joined apart from last season which Martial well and truly owned. He is my kind of midfielder, technique, vision, grit and a unrelenting desire to remain on the hunt and harass anyone in his path, the whole pitch that is :D

First name on the team sheet. Never again has to fear being dropped after putting in good performances. It has to feel great for the guy and it shows, he has incredible drive and energy.

Has played himself into Jose's first XI. Only player to have truly done that this season (perhaps apart from Bailly). You can make a case for Rashford, but that was equally because Martial was having a very poor patch.

Not only do I love his performance on the pitch for instance the way he can get out of a tight situation and pass the ball off, his energy and the way he reads he game, he speaks with a lot of passion in his interviews.

Mata/Blind (if rumours were to be believed) were not perceived to be in Jose's first XIs but have also played themselves into the fold quite well.

Captain material. Loves the club, puts 100% into every game he plays. Gets stuck in. Love Herrera.

I didn't think he was at his absolute best last night. Made a few mistakes in possession and with his passing, but he plays with magnificent intensity that is inspiring to watch, and, I would imagine, sets an example for the rest of our players out there. Should be first name on the team sheet every week.

Mata and Jose both came out and said that those were rumours. I read something where Mata specifically said that 'dont believe everything you read in the papers'. Jose also gave an interview where he mentioned that Mata, for how he wants his United to play, is a 'very good' player.

Blind started the season with Jose as the CB - so he was obviously fancied. Played himself out of that spot with the mistakes in the City game and then started performing at LB. He has had an up and down season so far.

I was one of those who kept on criticising him last season, but he's been our best player this season by a large margin.
Yeah, but it was madness under LvG. Herrera's best attributes at Bilbao has always been the things he excelled at last night - tenacity, pressing, high octane/energy football, keep the ball moving fast. Short passes etc. Probably a true all-action #8. So kudos to how well he's actually done at the holding mid position as well.

Whereas under LvG, the football was the complete opposite - more rigid, disciplined. Hold your position/space on the field. Keep possession of the football, risk averse. Basically the antithesis of his (Herreras) best attributes. There was an interview where Herrera said as much as well - about how he is adjusting under LvG, havign played under someone like Bielsa.

And he was criticized (probably justifiably so too) on here for leaving gaps and vacating his position quite a bit etc. But yeah, it sort of shows how changing managers and not having a streamlined transfer process can stuff you about. LvG clearly just gave the go ahead to a signing (Herrera and Shaw) which was already in the works before he joined - without having much thought of how to best use the player or play to his strengths. It's also little surprise that arguably our best run of games under LvG came with Herrera and Fellaini playing as 2 number 8's, and Carrick holding.

I'm glad he's doing well under JM though. He's always worked hard, never complained, always said the right things and he genuinely seems to love the club.

Imagine if we'd kept Van Gaal on. Rooney would be playing in midfield ahead of Herrera this season.

Haven't said otherwise. But he'll have a couple of bad games and he'll be average again, such is the fickleness of the cafe.

@NinjaFletch as I said I don't see the point in continuing. For what it's worth fortunately I've had BT Sport since its creation so I've managed to watch a fair bit Serie A, so yes, I imagine I've seen a fair bit more of him than you are making out I have.

I kind of agree with them though, Pogba couldn't break into the side when we had no midfielders, he's gone to by far the best team in an easy league and he's been shown to be better than he is, I believe Fergie will be proven right once he moves to another league. Cleverley is used to the pace in the PL and at times looked one of the best midfielders in the league for us.

Just interesting though that just last year you didn't seem to think much of him despite how much you apparently had watched Pogba and how highly you now rate him. So which is it? Is Pogba clearly a level above Herrera or is Cleverley the better player?

Perhaps, its Hererra < Pogba < Cleverley!:lol:

I love this man. Currently the heart and soul of are team looks like he'd take a bullet for the three points for us.

In four years time he will be the same age as Modric. No I'm not saying he will ever be as good, but he can yet improve, which I really believe he will.

Absolute hero last night. While Pogba looked lethargic (in fairness, he has played a lot of football!) Ander looked like he could run for hours. Pressing and winning the ball, covering for full backs, supporting attacks, he was everywhere!

Our best player so far this season. He knows what it's all about. Future captain material if he finds a place in Mourinho's refurbished side.

:lol::lol: bless!

You went to all that trouble to dig that quote up but forgot to actually read the thread. we were on the wind up bud! the OP had Cleverley and Brady in his starting XI of ex United players still playing, in fact, you were even commenting in the thread!

Nice try though.

As I said after the last City game, he loves playing against teams who press high. Makes it easy to beat his man with one touch. He can also maximise his play acting skills, falling after every touch.

My favourite United player without a doubt. If every United player played with the same attitude we'd be top of the league.

His energy level and technical ability (especially in tight situations) are stand out attributes

One of few, if any, of the current squad who reminds me of the 'old' United. Grafts, harasses the opposition, contests decisions, looks like he takes it personally if things are going against him. And he's a really good player. In short, he looks like he 'gets' us and is a refreshing shift from the meek, mild losers who take up so many places in the squad. Definite captain material.

I never understood the ridiculous amount of love for this guy for the last two seasons, but he's been absolutely fantastic lately

This is his full performance, really inspiring
My favourite moments: 4:43 when he's plays a little too long pass to Rashford but as he's putting pressure on defender they need to half clear and Herrera is there couple seconds later to win it again and he wouldn't be entitled to chase it if he played as a no6, clear throw in for visitors but he's angry as hell as it didn't go our way, loved it

then the obvious Spanish tikitaka, Pogba hitting th epost at 6:05

and you just have to Love Herrera trademark move at 6:51, can't remember a player who would do it the same way he does, he's not really alegant runner but he's everywhere, his positional awareness is awesome

He's the sort of player the opposition hates, aggressive and exploding every time a decision goes against us but actually a really good player to go with it. Exactly what we have missed recently.

When people talk about us needing some bite in our midfield he is actually the one to bring it and not Fellaini. Because Ander actually combines his competitiveness and fighting spirit with some actual football skills unlike Fellaini.

I feel sorry for throwing Fellaini under the bus again but it's to illustrate a point. We need to get players like Ander, Sanchez or Suarez. Players who will not give in for 90+ minutes and run their socks of but can actually bring some footballing skills to the table. If you have that in our team you can even carry two or three extraordinarily talented players who are not that keen on defending.

Before I forget him I feel Bailly is another great buy in that regard. He is an aggressive defender but he got the skill and acceleration to get away with his aggressive defensive style.

First post in the main forum! Feels great to be here :D

On Ander, I think he is an excellent player and one of the kind of players we have been crying out for in midfield. I like the way he harries the opposition with bite and guile, always pressing and as been said already in this thread he is the type of player opposition players hate playing against. For me he has to continue starting in the central midfield role now, has proved he is very good at both defending but then carrying the ball with a bit of purpose. I am always impressed with him in interviews too, he comes across as really knowledgeable and insightful.

Loves the club too and shows immense passion when playing which is always a bonus  hope he gets a long run in the side under Jose.

Welcome to the mains!
Agree with everthing that you've said there. What I love about him is that he relishes the responsibility that comes with being a player for United, and that makes him a natural leader out there on that pitch.

Thanks @kr0nix good to be here!

Yea I think he thrives on the responsibility he has too, he is one who stands up to be counted and you're right, the other players are starting to look to him now which is great. As I said previously I hope Jose gives him a long run in the side and allows him to continue his form.

He's a superb player. He has excellent technique, plays with a very high intensity and is a very intelligent footballer. If anything, it's pretty mental how poor he was last season, but I'm glad he's turning it on this season. Possibly our best player so far.
