Should be among the first names on the team sheet, right next to De Gea and Valencia.

I hope Herrera constant pressing forces Mourinho to adapt everyone to such style.

You can sometimes when he start pressing some other follow. He's usually quick to press. Hopefully Mou just say "feck it I'm getting everyone to press as crazy as Herrera".

Definitely the man of the match. My god I love our Ander! He's the best player we have when it comes to handling pressure, and his intensity is insane at times. Long may it continue.

I know you think I'm being needlessly pedantic, but I don't understand how you can profess to have strong feelings about how good Pogba is whilst admitting on the other hand you've not seen him play enough to form that opinion. Just seems like an entire exercise in pointlessness; even if you're right its by complete chance.

And it seems especially bizarre when Herrera has been comfortably our best player in a season and team where Pogba is massively struggling.
Sarcasm mate. But an odd point to make on your part when you freely admit yourself you've barely watched him play.

Yes he is playing better than Pogba at the moment, for the first time in his career, for what? 10 games? Pogba has been COMFORTABLY better than Herrera for the last 3+ seasons. it would be foolish to argue otherwise.

What with people?

Can't we just have something nice without people overreacting? Herrera has been in better form this season but he isn't a better midfield than Pogba, it's as simple as that. In fact Herrera has been in better form than practically anyone else in the team so far bar Bailly but that doesn't make him our best player.

Anyways back to Herrera. He's really stepped it up this year and he's a few levels above what he's ever shown which is really exiting.

The guy presses the hell out of people and is very relentless. His relentless pressing couple with his technical skills make a terrific combo for the little guy. And so far out of all our players he's the one who seem the hardest the get the ball away from.

Dude has been great this season.
Thank you! I thought I was going mad here. I suppose this forum proves how short people's memories are when it comes to football.

Just make him captain already.. Carrick is almost finished. Rooney won't pull anything else up. And Smalling well is almost on his way to play his way out. So give it to the guy who wears it on his sleeve and just oozes passion.. Motm easy..

Fave United player at the moment. Must be so annoying to play against, niggling away all the time...love it

Great today.

I love how he pissed and moaned about any remotely contentious refereeing decision. Too often our players just accept whatever shite the ref throws at us and trot back to their positions. You could tell other players noticed and started to follow suit.

he would have definitely 99 in fifa in this stat...

Ander really impressing. If he can maintain this level on a consistent basis it would be:drool:

Came here to post this. Jose clearly rates him, the fans love him and he has to be very popular with the players. Just do it.

Mourinho: "Ander brought the team to different levels of intensity in our pressing and then we started recovering balls."

Whats crazy for me is, if Morgan S had the same application as Ander does. Morgan/Ander/Pogba midfield would be dynamite! But for whatever reason, Morgan never presses or imposes himself like Herrera does.

He clearly cares and when you've got a team searching for an identity and a set of fans looking to someone to offer some attitude and fight he's a brilliant symbol of it.

Great player, hope he carries on his form.

I remember suggesting this as a newbie, even though he'd only just started with us. Think he would be good, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he keeps churning out good consistent performances.

Great words from Jose on his address again "...we were starting to trust our defensive organisation and then in the second half, especially Herrera, Carrick and Pogba, they increased the tempo. They started pressing higher. I thought Ander brought the team to different levels of intensity and pressing."
That little fecker definitely won him over and I am really happy for him that it clicked, just wish we had more players like him so we could press all game and play more fantastic football.

I think Ander is best all round midfielder we had since Scholes and the other one is Pogba who is not even playing good atm! Just play them together and in every game:-)

Why are you being so elusive at answering the central question here? If you've watched Pogba play regularly in Serie A then say, and you could have done that at the start and avoided all this, but if you haven't how are you qualified to pass any real judgement on him as a player and why should we care what you think?

I appreciate we all do it to an extent, and I'm no exception I'm sure, but the reason I'm being nitpicky is because I think it does actually matter. We hype up new signings to unrealistic heights, rating players and holding them to a level they've never achieved in their career and, in term, we cause them to have to hit the ground running before questions as to why they're not performing to those standards begin to surface. At the same time, I feel we fail to appreciate what we have. I've been meaning to start a thread on this phenomenon for ages and its certainly not a Pogba/Herrera exclusive issue - off the top of my head its happened with Darmian, Schneiderlin, Falcao and Memphis in the past few years (and Mata but for different reasons) - all of which feeds into the negativity that seems to permanently surround the club and forces things to become a self-fufflining prophecy.

Give him the captains armband. Only person I've seen giving his teammates a kick up the arse like Keane used to do.

Has been my favourite player just about since he joined us. You'd be hard done trying to find someone with as much passion for the club.

Anyone else think that the collision with Fernandinho was planned by him? Resembled a basketball screen more than a football move

Love his grittiness though. Says the right words and backs it up.

Hard not to like this guy. The energy he has is fantastic. Never stops running. Super game from him.

This is also the reason I prefer him as an 8 than a holder. He's able to press more and force the opposition into mistakes as he did for our goal. When he's deep in midfield, he can't press that high.

His fifth caf man of the match in 11 appearences this season for him, its getting boring, he just is our best player.

Did Jose say this in the post match presser?

You have those three reasons plus the fact that he's a very good player and one of the few players who gives his all every game. He leaves everything he has on the pitch and, even though it isn't enough sometimes, you have to admire that.

Captain! That is all!!!
I agree 100%. Only player I've seen giving it out in recent years and actually looks arsed about whats happening on the pitch. We need someone on the pitch who will give his teammates a bit of fire.

This season has been the Herrera I hoped we'd get from the off. Full of energy and desire but has the quality and intelligence to go with it.

I was actually more impressed with him on Sunday. It's not like everyone else was sulking but he was the only one even at 4-0 who's attitude seemed to still be "I'm not having this"...when you see that you don't have to worry about whether there'll be the right reaction from him in the next game.

If you're going to pick one player to hold up as an example to the rest, it'd just obviously be him, and that says it all really.

Loving how he's excelling under Jose. Agree with all the captain comments, he's surely the second name on the team sheet after Big Dave.
Brilliant performance again tonight. Rojo and Mata (in particular) were excellent, but glad Ander got MOTM, yet again.

Edit: early days but has to be between Ander, Mata & Bailly for Utd POTY so far.

He always had these qualities, all we needed was for the right setup to bring it out of him. More than his technical atttributes, which are decent enough, it's his willingness to stand out and take responsibility, which he himself alluded to in his post-match interview on MUTV, saying that he didn't want to be "just another player" in the squad. Shows you why he was scouted by United under Fergie all those years ago.

Never been a fan, but he's been very good this season. Our best midfielder this season. Jose's used him well.

That link up play between him and Mata was just wonderful

Those fecking sexy one-twos

Bit surprised with the Herrera comments. I thought he and most of the team had a very good 2nd half but 1st half he was a positonally lost and a bit sub dued (as was most of the team to be fair).

Probably found it weird not being the deepest with Carrick behind him. Hopefully Mourinho continues having Carrick/Schneiderlin sitting and we can see more attacking intent from Herrera.

Atm he's great at being tenacious, tidy and at linking up, the next step for him imo is being effective in the final third when we're the more dominant team against other sides. I would like some goals from this guy.

Love his attitude this season - Jose has really let him out of his cage.

Loved his attitude in the first season which seem to die down in his second - I would put this down to LVG as his intensity is back. Love this guy

Talk about making him captain, i remember one game last season when he was seen speaking intently and giving advice to both Schneiderlin and of all people, Bastian the World Cup winner and captain. Think it was the Everton game where we won 3-0 under van Gaal. It was pretty hilarious to see

I was one of those who kept on criticising him last season, but he's been our best player this season by a large margin.

Thank you! I thought I was going mad here. I suppose this forum proves how short people's memories are when it comes to football.

It seems like you are almost offended that people think he is our best player. And I am not sure anyone meant it like that anyway, people think he is our best player since start of the season which is obviously true. He is also far better than Pogba this year.

Haven't said otherwise. But he'll have a couple of bad games and he'll be average again, such is the fickleness of the cafe.

@NinjaFletch as I said I don't see the point in continuing. For what it's worth fortunately I've had BT Sport since its creation so I've managed to watch a fair bit Serie A, so yes, I imagine I've seen a fair bit more of him than you are making out I have.
