You're probably not far off. The resulting anarchy would give many of them the excuse they need to start shooting people they don't like.

I think that is likely true of quite a lot of the GOP base, but for the guys doing this and the like sof the koch bros funding it all, its simple ideology coupled with the notion that whatever happens, they are million/billionaires in gated communities with private armed security for their families,so they are isolated from any effect of their own actions, plus they are all likely shorting the dow jones as it goes down, and will switch long before it goes back up (and they know precisely when that will be as it will happen after someone caves in) and make themselves a fortune out of it.

Yes, that, too. It's those ones whom the nutters should be training their weapons on.

One the chiefs (E-9) I work with was muttering on the phone a couple weeks ago about stocking up on weapons as "it's coming."

It looks like that's what they're aiming for, pardon the pun. The only way they'll be able to finally finish off the US Constitution is for a complete collapse of the American system.

The tea party gun nut in my office was ranting about no-go areas for whites in Tacoma. It was a little uncomfortable. I like him a lot but he's really angry about this stuff. He told me he wore a Michael Savage T-shirt to jury duty.

There are non-whites in Tacoma, Washington?

Christ, I thought I was out of touch about the Supersonics.

What may be more important, Chris Christie looks to be starting his candidacy for 2016. One of 3 that could bring some rational thinking back to the GOP.

Bingo! Most of them actually don't care cause if things get really bad, they have enough to maintain their standard of living.

wonder how confident Repubs are about taking the Senate in 2014?

Probably very confident since they seem to have zero self-awareness, but it's not gonna happen. They have record low approval ratings, and the majority of the American people blame them for the shutdown. And yet they keep on insisting to dig they own grave. You never know with the American people, but you'd have to think that even they are beginning to get fed up by this infantile crap now.

I would not be surprised if the Democrats too back this house next year. Sanity will return to our country.

He'll be 78 in 2016 by the looks of it, so I'd say probably not!

Doubt he will run for President he tried that before and failed horribly, at this point he is probably quite happy building a strong legacy as a successful Govenor of California. Though it may depend on if Hillary runs or not. If she doesn't that probably opens up the Democratic field up a bit and could give Brown an opportunity.

Though as far as age goes if you look at the age of some of the current top Democrat contenders for 2016 (Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and John Kerry) he actually is right in their age group.

Hillary's 10 years younger, Biden and Kerry are about 5 years younger (is Kerry really likely to run anyway?) so there's a fair bit of difference. I think if Clinton runs she's got it tied up already to be honest.

Kerry wont run. Doubt Biden will either. Everyone can see Obama supports Hillary. Its her nomination to lose. On the other side people mentioning fat boy...but he will never get through the primaries. Think it may end up Rand Paul...though the teabaggers love Cruz.

I think Christie will gaffe himself out of the race. His fatness will turn people off too. Nobody wants a big fat sweaty Traveller representing America.

Christie has had a gastric bypass though, probably because he's looking to run in 2016.

It'll be another great moderate vs insane person spectacle again, TP might be wise to focus on a single candidate early on rather than switch every month (Herman Cain was winning at one point FFS  and then the Santorum Surge...). I haven't seen much mention of Rubio of late, am I just not paying attention or has something happened there?

The serious people like Rubio are just going to wait and let the idiots self-destruct. No need to jump in yet. Then again they run the risk of doing a Giuliani and completely fuucking it up!

Could be Hillary's to lose but then again that is what many said when she last ran, but somone named Obama stole the show from her. Not that Obama was unknown but the general feeling heading into the primaries was that Hillary would win, but when they kicked off seems the voters had other ideas and of course the Oprah effect helped Obama early.

Hillary's fundemental mistake was just going after the big states...most of which she won.....but Obama was getting lots of delegates from states he lost too...it was not winner takes all. Obama went after delegates...which is what determines who wins. Poor strategy by Hillary's team. But also once Obama started running, he was very inspiring. In the end people vote with their heart.

Hillary was favourite, but there were definite challengers. I haven't seen a realistic one yet (although admittedly it's very early days).

I think it also helped him that he had actually voted NO on the authorizing of the invasion of Iraq, as opposed to Hillary who had voted yes.
