Can't afford €10m more for Sancho but can pay €30m + add ons for this guy

It bizarre isn't it? I've read loads of places now that United were willing to give 100 million for Sancho, but 110 were just too much. Then we go out and spend nearly 100 million on a AM, a LB and some kid who might or not make it.

Did someone at Dortmund piss in Ed's coffee or something?

There must be something shady going on behind the scenes with these crazy amounts for unknown and unproven talent. Like some sort of money laundering for tax-free private accounts....
We paid 17m in 2003 for unknown and unproven kid. Remember?

If he was English then he'd probably be worth same as Sancho in 6 months from now, so it's a no-brainer. Seems like a wise piece of business.

Probably not. He looks to be a carbon copy of Marcus Edwards who is English and supremely gifted himself but wouldn't cost £30m now.

The gamble is so little evidence of producing that quality at senior level because talent is only 25% of the equation. It's a very high fee no matter however you look at it.

You cannot comment or criticise if, by admission, you know feck all about the player in question.

It is not ludicrous to spend 30m on a professional football player. The only factor that determines whether it is or not, is WHICH footballer, and how good he is. And that key part, you don’t know. Perhaps the people who actually spent the money, have a better idea?
Is he a professional football player before he's had actual professional football experience? Thats my point. He may or may not be good enough. Spending 30m on an 18 year old with no exposure in a first team is basically like you're expecting him to be Messi or Ronaldo levels. We spend all window penny pinching... and then spend 30m on him. I'm sorry but its beyond ridiculous. I hope he is a genuine world class prospect and makes it, but the amount of unknowns involved in young players is way too much to make this smart in any way. Look at Januzaj. World class prospect, PSG bid 25m or so half a year into his first season with us. After he showed it in the premier league. Look at where he is now. Look at how much Erling Haaland went for. Bellingham. Ferran Torres. All cheaper than Amad Traore, far more proven and I'd be shocked if he proved himself to be on par as a prospect.

But if we had invested the 120m in Sancho, how much would be left for the rest? Except for Cavani, i dont think we would have done Telles, Traore and Pellistri. Ok maybe Traore wasnt needed then, but Telles and Pellistri might turn out useful players
If we had the right people negotiating the deals, this wouldn't have been a problem. If we'd have signed Sancho, we wouldn't have needed both Traore and Pellistri, let's not forget Sancho is 20 himself.

1m 73 or 5’ 8. Not that tiny either

The problem is he comes across tiny. As in he does not look that physically robust or super quick to make up for it. He's young so will need time to adapt.

Juve signed Chiesa for €50m basically spread into €2m first year, €8m second year and €40m last year. Italian clubs are strapped for money. We pay about €15m less for player who hasn't done a fraction of what Chiesa's done.

He's looks almost a spit of Marcus Edwards, also referred to as 'Messi'.

Its amazing how much Serie A has fallen. From packed to the rim stadiums watching the likes of Platini, Gullit and Zidane and now having current day Serie A professionals playing next to parking lots.

Surely as desperate Atalanta are for money we could have got him for cheaper?

Not when the window shuts in less than 10 hours.

The money we are giving Atalanta, and its financial multiplier effects (our £30M = 200M in Serie A) they can max out our money and be a threat to Juve's dominance.

No, our last Sancho bid was €95m + €15m in addons, €10m short of Dortmunds valuation. But we don't want to pay the extra €10m for our top target, we'll pay €30m + add ons for this kid though.
So he's a lot cheaper. What's the argument.

12.5m, different time but for someone who had 33 appearances for Sporting and had just tore up our team in a friendly. Id say its drastically different.
Still what is the issue here? He looks supremely talented. Why link this with Sancho?

We will also pay €10M to Cavani's agent.

I'm sure Woodward thinks he played a financial masterstroke by not coughing up the extra €10M here, but the repercussions of this will be faced by our club for years to come.

What's with the sudden explosion of Traorés in top level football? I swear every team seems to have one. A decade ago every team had to have its own Diarra, now Traoré's all the rage.

We wanted to sign him but he was going to Parma. That deal fell through. Not sure what happened

This poor bastard.

Imagine his first day at United training. Coming from a well defined, hard working, regimented and defined system at Atlanta, to us where half the lads are racing each other on office chairs powere by fire extinguishers and the other half watching the TikTok United dab contest unfold while Ole sits in the shower, fully clothed, crying and shaking, saying the word "Rashy" over and over.

If we can get 3 players in for the same outlay it does make sense.

He looks a useful addition. Watford would probably ask 40m for Sarr

The Dembele's came in between the Diarra's and the Traore's too.

Or Hazard, or Sancho or a lot more than 30m.

What you are not grasping is that it is perfectly fine for you to be unsure about him. You’ve never fecking seem him. Which is fine too, as you’re not in the business of scouting or buying and selling footballers. My point is, SOME inexperienced footballers are worth a lot of money. The fact that we are paying that much suggests we consider h one of them. There is no point in you comparing him with other players who you DO know about, because you don’t know about this one. Those that do think he is special. You are just not amongst those that do. Which at this point, is perfectly fine. It does however, make your opinion on this far less relevant. At this point.

Well it puts paid to the belief that young talents don’t want to join us.

Rather this guy than Sarr or Brooks. We know their level, and to me they are midtable. I hope we have higher aspirations than that

Never heard of him but I’m excited about it.

if we aren’t getting him till January I hope Atlanta give him some game time in serie A
He got 24 minutes last season, so I wouldn't hold my breath on much game time.

Atalanta are probably partying right now.
So what do you know about this player to declare that Atalanta are partying right now?!
How can anyone say that without watching him play before?
I'm sure that one of our scouts thinks differently and we think he's worth it.
It's not the money you pay but the quality blended with the team he plays with. Some work and others don't. See Griezmann, Dembele and a number of others who cost lots and lots but didn't fit into their new team.

Oh yeah the kid who's attitude was so toxic that he failed to turn up on time for a single training session while on loan at Norwich, resulting in him playing just 6 minutes in his loan spell there and having his loan spell terminated early. Edwards is known to have a stinker of an attitude and was known to never pass to anyone while at Spurs in the youth teams. There's a reason nobody will touch him with a barge pole. Ravel Morrison No.2.

Are you serious? The video is of youth academy matches, what stadiums do you expect?

That's quite simplistic view unless you have the complete information about the payment structure of the deal . Traore deal most probably is spread over 3-4 year payment term like most transfer's are so we might be paying 7.5-10 m upfront, but through out the summer It seems Dortmund insisted upon big chunk of Sancho's fee upfront and we have been trying to get them them to agree to payment structure which is comfortable for us as well it seems we have failed in that and now pursuing other targets for the time being.
