Amad Diallo - Atalanta winger

To be fair I'd have signed Greenwood last summer for 30m when he'd made about 3 first team appearances. If the club have seen a high level of talent and done their due diligence, I couldn't give less of a shit about the fee.

It's not his fault we didn't sign Sancho is it, that's down to the board.

This could be a good signing for the futu
Tbh I never cared once about Sancho, I knew it was b.s from the start. Just some dream for the fans. I haven't seen Traore play 1 min so I cannot say this is a good or bad signing. Time will tell.

We paid 17m in 2003 for unknown and unproven kid. Remember?

Stop living in the past. Sancho is the real deal and we have skipped that to buy an unknown who has played no first team minutes. It’s more like the Dalot signing than Ronaldo.

No, our last Sancho bid was €95m + €15m in addons, €10m short of Dortmunds valuation. But we don't want to pay the extra €10m for our top target, we'll pay €30m + add ons for this kid though.

Er.... it's like you don't understand how money works.

Man: "Can I buy this magazine please?"

Shopkeeper: "Yes, it's £4.50"

Man: "Oh shit, I only have £3. Oh well, just give me packet of chewing gum instead."

Shopkeeper: "Oh so you can't afford £4.50 for a magazine but you can afford £1 for chewing gum?"

Still didn't get our no.1 target we've been talking about for two summers, even when his club were open to selling.

Seems like you don't understand what has gone on with the Sancho fiasco.

Oh yeah the kid who's attitude was so toxic that he failed to turn up on time for a single training session while on loan at Norwich, resulting in him playing just 6 minutes in his loan spell there and having his loan spell terminated early. Edwards is known to have a stinker of an attitude and was known to never pass to anyone while at Spurs in the youth teams. There's a reason nobody will touch him with a barge pole. Ravel Morrison No.2.

He's done better than Ravel already and is doing well in Portugal. He's making some progree. The point is that buying a kid straight out of academy football for that fee is a massive gamble because you don't know how they respond to the senior game on and off the pitch. Edwards is instructive here.

Still what is the issue here? He looks supremely talented. Why link this with Sancho?

We can't win can we.
Wait until they emerge and see a 100m+ price...that's wrong.
Get in before they're proven and drones moan that it's too much for unproven players.

Sancho is going to cost 120m. Let's see if we can pay that much. This isn't Sancho thread.

I am not living in past. I am for one actually excited to see the youngster we have bought.

So what do you know about this player to declare that Atalanta are partying right now?!
How can anyone say that without watching him play before?
I'm sure that one of our scouts thinks differently and we think he's worth it.
It's not the money you pay but the quality blended with the team he plays with. Some work and others don't. See Griezmann, Dembele and a number of others who cost lots and lots but didn't fit into their new team.

That is a hell of a lot of money for someone who has played 25 minutes. We couldn't get that money for players we have that have made 50 plus appearances!

Haaland, Bellingham etc cost less.
Chiesa going to Juve for deal rising to €50m but we will pay €30m plus add ons for this kid.

I have watched as much of him as you have I'd wager. So yeah I will stick with my original statement thanks.

I can understand that 30 is less than 120 so you know... swings and roundabouts. We all have our strengths.

Plus side of the high fee is we wont have to hear the Dan James defence being used (ie cheap punt and therefore apparently unreasonable to expect competence)

Dont know why James is being brought into the conversation so much here.

That has to be worst plus side that you can think about

I get the feeling there seems to be desire to moan at whatever United do in the transfer market. Just because we are not getting Sancho doesn't mean we should stop trying to sign other players.
A lot of people on this forum have complained about our scouting, on why we don't snap up players for cheap before their value goes up, Yet when we actually do it, we still complain.

Simply quick answer, we need players for the first team and squad depth for now not the future and not someone who could go either way here.

Two shit wingers do not equal a Sancho.

This guy doesn't have blistering pace, or trickery, or a touch.

That might be the case, but we also need to invest in the future, the two are not mutually exclusive. Us not improving our first team, shouldn't stop us from trying to bring in players that could be useful for us in the future and save the club money.

Smart decision considering you can get porn online for much less than £3 never mind £4.50.

Okay, but not being able to secure the big target (which is a failure) doesn't mean we need to be completely dismissive if we're also trying to do the latter.

Exactly. Few people just loves to moan about everything.

30m does sound very steep, but if the scouts are that convinced then hopefully it'll sound like peanuts in the future.

Will be interesting to see if he gets any game time from now until January.

Impossible for who to have much of an idea though? Internet fans or a professional football club?

I’m not saying anyone has to be excited, but at the very worst, there needs to be a reservation of judgement if you have no idea at all how good the player is. If we had bought Kylian Mbappé at a similar age for 30m, it would have been fantastic business. If we had bought Oli McBurnie at the same stage for 30m, it would have been a terrible move. Obviously, the key distinction lies in the quality of the player, and as it stands, those criticising have no idea as to the quality of the player.

I'm on about the club obviously. Even with the best scouting in the world you don't know how players at that age will turn out as so many things need to translate into the mens game.

I don't think anyone is criticising the player and the signing can only be judged in hindsight. That doesn't make it invalid to discuss the strange nature of it though.

Horses for courses. We need an established attacker to play on right wing, not Amad. Someone to improve on what we have already. We are not stacked with cash either to be able to buy whoever we want. Traore seems to be one for the future not what we need badly now. If we sign another attacker to play on flanks, people won't complain. However, if he is bought to fill the hole that Sancho was supposed to, then we are in trouble. The lad is really young and is yet to be tested in Serie A, nevermind being thrown on the frontline of a struggling giant in the prem.

Always good to get young potential in, that's what true united fans like to see. Such a great feeling when a young player excels into the senior team, lets hope its the same with this guy. Lets not hang him out to dry before he's even kicked a ball for us.

As for Sancho, I feel that he will come here eventually, the club were right not to pay the fee now with the covid situation if they felt it was just too much In the mean time can all you forever needy moaners just enjoy the bumpy ride, we will get it right eventually. We were spoilt during the Fergie years, we do not have a divine right to win trophys.
