Never heard of him but I’m excited about it.

if we aren’t getting him till January I hope Atlanta give him some game time in serie A

Going to reserve judgement on this deal since it will cover a position we are very light on. Everyone that knows this kid say he’s something special so hopefully it’s one signing that will come good. Now just a new back line and we’re sorted.

I have no idea how good he is... but 30m is a hell of a lot of money to spend on someone who has 3 first team appearances, and likelihood being that he won't even come into the first team squad right away when he signs. Especially in the supposedly hard covid market. I'm all for signing young talents, but ffs the amount of pressure a 30m price tag puts on this kid is huge. Makes no sense.

This is it isn’t it, we’ve given up so we got this dude and that other one were signing.
Zorc said nein and sticking by his guns hard by the looks. Guess we are going with Amad, Cavani, Telles as things stand, really hope a dembele deal might get done also.

Looks tiny and lightweight. He is not going to contribute early doors IMO.. will need time.

Christ we've gone for it with this one. Very exciting as he's a massive talent but surprised to see us spend €30m for him now! Roll on January.

So, after we have spent months trying to drive down asking prices and save a few million quid, today is the day to spunk tens of Millions in gambles......:lol:

Is he any better than Chong? Looks lightweight and months off being ready for the PL.

Who knows, maybe Dortmund's 10/08 deadline was regardless of fee like they've said from the start. I'd be surprised if we weren't willing to go about €105m for Sancho or whatever we offered the other day yet are then happy to spend €30m+ on Traore.

£30mil puts this in a much different bracket to the rest of the young signings. We're basically expecting him to make it.

The people who spent the 30m are the ones who need to have an idea how good he is to be fair. It’s them it needs to make sense. At the very least, judgement should be reserved. If we don’t know how good the player is then there really isn’t any grounds to criticise or comment negatively as such.

I like a prospect signing but that's a huge fee. Not my money so don't really care but considering we're penny pinching elsewhere it's a tad odd

If he was English then he'd probably be worth same as Sancho in 6 months from now, so it's a no-brainer. Seems like a wise piece of business.

There 100% is grounds to comment and criticize, because of the fee involved. City spent 20m on Ferran Torres. Spending 30m on someone with as little experience as Traore is pretty much unprecedented. We make all these excuses about a difficult covid market as the reasons why we can't address our concerns in a timely manner, and then throw €30m at an 18 year old with 3 first team appearances on deadline day, to join at a future date? Where is the logic?

I think it's more that it's impossible to have that much of an idea about a player his age so it's a risky move.

The idea that we're being tough and not overpaying has gone out of the window with this in my view.

Anyway it's an exciting signing if we ignore the financial competence.

Exactly this! Propsect signings are always good due to low risk high reward nature. We're paying as if its immediate reward right now basically though, with little backing or faith on that. Such a strange deal.

Yep. Haaland also €22.5m. Bellingham €25m.

This is a massive gamble and knowing us will probably fail.

You cannot comment or criticise if, by admission, you know feck all about the player in question.

It is not ludicrous to spend 30m on a professional football player. The only factor that determines whether it is or not, is WHICH footballer, and how good he is. And that key part, you don’t know. Perhaps the people who actually spent the money, have a better idea?

Immediate reward for these type of players seems to be 100m upwards currently, so I guess the fee is fair.

This got the “here we go” treatment right?

Also what is the deal? To be announced today, or to be announced in January?

Can't afford €10m more for Sancho but can pay €30m + add ons for this guy

But if we had invested the 120m in Sancho, how much would be left for the rest? Except for Cavani, i dont think we would have done Telles, Traore and Pellistri. Ok maybe Traore wasnt needed then, but Telles and Pellistri might turn out useful players

There must be something shady going on behind the scenes with these crazy amounts for unknown and unproven talent. Like some sort of money laundering for tax-free private accounts....

Impossible for who to have much of an idea though? Internet fans or a professional football club?

I’m not saying anyone has to be excited, but at the very worst, there needs to be a reservation of judgement if you have no idea at all how good the player is. If we had bought Kylian Mbappé at a similar age for 30m, it would have been fantastic business. If we had bought Oli McBurnie at the same stage for 30m, it would have been a terrible move. Obviously, the key distinction lies in the quality of the player, and as it stands, those criticising have no idea as to the quality of the player.
